The youth who died in a November 17 crash on I-89 in Sharon has been identified as Silas Baustert, 11, of Essex, police say.
At 3:22 PM on November 17, state police were dispatched to the report of a single car crash on Interstate 89 south near mile marker 11 in Sharon. The driver of the 2017 Chevy Suburban was identified as Dawn Baustert (45) of Essex. Silas Baustert sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.
Police say Ms. Baustert was traveling south on Interstate 89 and drifted off the passing lane shoulder into rock ledges. The impact against the rock ledges was primarily taken by the driver’s side.
The driver suffered incapacitating injuries. Passenger Timothy Baustert (56) suffered minor injuries. They were treated at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The vehicle sustained complete damage. Road conditions were dry and weather was clear.
State police were assisted by White River Valley Ambulance, Hartford Fire Department, Northern EMS, and the Vermont Medical Examiner’s Office.

This is an instance where I think it is in the public’s best interest to know if drugs were involved. Why? To encourage preventative educational settings – adults and students alike should be aware that smoking, toking, drug use and driving is not a safe mix.
