Vermont State Police are investigating several incidents across the state this week, including a dealership burglary in Clarendon, charges involving a Dorset man accused of offenses against a teenager, and a shooting in Swanton Town that left a woman injured.

In Rutland County, troopers responded at about 1:17 AM June 16 to Garvey Nissan in Clarendon after reports of suspicious activity. Investigators determined the dealership had been burglarized, with multiple vehicles stolen and others damaged.

One of the stolen vehicles was later located in Rutland, where police identified the driver as Steven Bogenschutz, 20, of Rutland. Troopers said Bogenschutz attempted to flee on foot after driving into the Quality Inn parking lot but was quickly apprehended. Police said signs of impairment were observed during the investigation.

Bogenschutz was cited to appear in Rutland County Superior Court on July 6 on charges of DUI, possession of stolen property and impeding public officers. The burglary investigation remains ongoing.

Malcolm Clough, 51

In Bennington County, Vermont State Police arrested Malcolm Clough, 51, of Dorset on June 17 following an investigation into allegations involving a 16-year-old girl from Winhall. Detectives said the investigation began May 20 and determined multiple incidents allegedly occurred on several dates in 2026.

Clough was charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious conduct, prohibited conduct, and enabling or furnishing alcohol to a minor. He was released with conditions, including a 24-hour curfew, and is scheduled to appear in Bennington County Criminal Division on June 18. Police said the investigation remains active.

Meanwhile, in Franklin County, state police are investigating after a woman was struck by a stray bullet inside her home on Ceres Circle in Swanton Town at about 12:26 PM Wednesday.

Investigators said a projectile fired from a nearby location entered the residence and injured the woman. She was transported to Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. Her condition was not immediately available.

Police said they have identified individuals connected to the incident and believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing.
