Gun waving in Burlington

On Monday, July 29 around 12:48PM, an officer with the Burlington Police Department was flagged down in the area of College Street and Church Street for a man brandishing a gun.

it turned out that Jason Douglas, 40, of Highgate, brandished a firearm at some and then fled the scene. Officers found Douglas and conducted a high-risk motor vehicle stop. Douglas was arrested without further incident. Reckless Endangerment charges are forthcoming.


Fatal collision in Newbury

On July 28th at 5:37AM, a tragic single-vehicle crash occurred on Wallace Hill Road in Newbury. A 2000 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 22-year-old Daniel Sweet of Newbury, was found severely damaged near Stark Trail.

Initial reports indicate that Sweet was heading north when his vehicle veered off the road just past the Stark Trail intersection, rolled over, and ejected him from the car. Despite the swift response from the Newbury Fire Department and Woodsville Ambulance, Sweet succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities are investigating the incident and urge any witnesses to contact Trooper Hastings at 802-748-3111.

MA suspected fentanyl, cocaine dealer arrested in Waterbury

On July 25, at 3:30PM., Rafael Santos, 37, of Springfield, MA, was arrested at 1159 Ripley Road in Waterbury, VT. The Vermont Drug Task Force, alongside the Vermont State Police, apprehended Santos after a weeks-long investigation into his drug distribution activities in Washington County.

The investigation involved multiple controlled purchases of cocaine and fentanyl. A search warrant executed at the time of his arrest uncovered significant quantities of these drugs. Santos faces charges including two counts of fentanyl trafficking, one count of fentanyl sale, two counts of cocaine sale, and one count of cocaine trafficking.

Santos was taken into custody without incident and is being held at the Northwestern Correctional Center on $100,000 bail. He was scheduled for arraignment at the Washington County Superior Court on July 26 at 12:30PM.
