The Great Barre City BLM Flag War isn’t over.
A tempetuous municipal argument over which flags should fly in Barre’s City Hall Park spilled over into the Vermont Legislature last April when Barre Democratic Reps. Peter Anthony and Tommy Walz introduced H444 would change the City Charter to allow the city to “enumerate the flags that the City may fly.”
A year and one politically-incorrect Senate amendment later, the war remains unresolved. But it might end this week.
H444 was introduced by the city’s two Democratic lawmakers after a hellacious controversy among city councilors about flying the Black Lives Matter flag. Progressive elements on the city council insisted on flying the BLM flag alongside the U.S. and state flag. Non-Progressives fought back. They managed to pass a ‘flag of the month’ program in which the BLM banner flew the first month but others – including U.S. military service flags – flew during other months.
H444 passed the House quickly and unchanged.
But then, the Senate.
On March 8 of this year, the Senate Government Operations Committee voted 6-0 to amend the bill, including this significant change: “The City of Barre shall fly only the City, State, United States, and POW/MIA flags.” The committee decision was reported on the Senate floor by Washington County Sen. Anthony Pollina (P).
In other words, no BLM flag.
Two weeks later the Senate passed H444 with its changes intact. On April 1, Rep. Anthony asked the House to postpone any House decision until this Wednesday, April 6. Anthony and others reportedly will prepare a further proposal of amendment. Will their amendment of the Senate amendment re-insert the city’s prerogative to fly any flag it wants – including BLM’s? Stay tuned.
The political fallout of sponsoring H444, if any, won’t fall on Walz. He’s not running for re-election. However, Rep. Anthony and whoever else runs in the two-seat House district will no doubt be asked by voters where they fall on flying the BLM flag in Barre’s picturesque City Hall Park.

If this ridiculousnes evolves, let the votes clearly show the voters who thinks it more important to align with the BIPOC agendas. This is not the freedom that the reigns over our state and nation.
The residents of Barre have spoken. They voted to only have the country, state, city and pow/mia flags. Why do the Barre City reps-Peter Anthony and Tommy Walz- think they can override the will of their constituents? Have they totally lost the concept of what it means to be a representative? That’s what it looks. They should be voted out (Walz is retiring anyway). Anthony needs to be replaced.
Just because BLM has been proven to be tax-dodging IRS grifters & communists who want to destroy the nuclear family don’t make them bad people right? Hell, they bamboozled Guv Phill into allowing graffiti statewide in 2020 & showed ALL of US that “lockdowns” were not applicable to THEIR protestors, so what’s the big deal? It’s “Social Justice” after ALL! They’re only preying on “White Guilt” and I’m sure the IRS & “Media” will keep their tax/non-profit transgressions super secret like Hunter’s laptop & the Biden Family Crime Syndicate, out of sight, out of mind! BTW– Will they also have a flag for Jussie Smollet too?

AMAZING…..this BLM group’s “founder” took donations and purchased FOUR multi-million dollar homes on the west coast for her personal use, whilst it has been declared that the group has NO contact information whatsoever & has never filed for any status under government tax laws, etc. etc. Purportedly, they were under federal investigation of some type.
But Barre & Colchester schools et al want to hang their FLAG????? What a sick, pathetic group are leftists.
Would someone please tell me why Barre voters keep voting for these two progressive reps. who apparently forgot that they work for the people of Barre and not the BLM communist front. Vermonters need a recall statute for people like this. They think they’re Woke and want to fit in. Here’s a news flash for Anthony and Waltz, The Barre voters already spoke, now do your job and rescind your H444. Your job is to do what the voters want not what you want.
