An ad by Vermont MAGA-brand conservative Gregory Thayer suggests that all conservatives unite behind Republican Governor Phil Scott, especially based on their shared concerns for the economy.
“Governor Scott is the only thing standing in the way of Vermont being Socialist government,” it states. “He needs our help under the Golden Dome. We must ‘Get Out The Vote’ to Elect Common Sense Republicans.”
The ad marks a rare olive branch between what has sometimes been a bitter divide between Trump’s supporters and the governor’s more mainstream positions. It features photos of Scott, Gerald Malloy who is a GOP candidate for U.S. Senate, as well as Trump and Vance.
Thayer, who ran unsuccessfully in the primary for the Republican lieutenant governor ticket against Democrat-turned-Republican John Rodgers, is best known among mainstream media followers for attending the J6 Washington DC protests regarding the highly disputed 2020 presidential election.
Scott, although highly critical of Trump for incivility and some policies, has remained in general agreement with Trump supporters on economic issues. Thayer notes some of the economic policies he opposes.
“They’ve increased DMV fees by 20% across the board; they increased our Internet fees; voted themselves a pay increase and benefits package; and they are increasing your home + business heating costs by $4.00 per gallon by trying to electrify Vermont,” he wrote. Thayer also notes that property taxes are up 14% and a new payroll tax proposal.
Scott expressed a similar sentiment on these matters.
“Following a year with a 20% increase in DMV fees, a $100 million payroll tax, and a looming property tax increase of more than $200 million, raising taxes to cover the gap you created would be an astounding – and reckless – burden on Vermonters who already faced a high cost of living here in Vermont,” Scott wrote in March regarding the FY24 Budget Adjustment Act.
Thayer’s ad specifies support for the statewide GOP candidates.
“Join us in getting out the vote for real common-sense thinking Vermonters for our State Legislature, and start at the top of the ticket for President and VP, Governor, U.S. Senate and so on,” it states.
Scott is the most popular governor in America within his state. The Boston Globe notes, however, that most of his support comes from the opposing party.
“A Republican in the bluest state in the union, Scott has led Vermont through COVID and historic floods with understated competence, repudiating Donald Trump and the national GOP brand, making him more popular with Democrats than Republicans in the Green Mountain State,” the article states.
Matters separating Scott from Trump supporters include their opinions regarding the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election, Scott also voted for Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Another example is abortion, Scott holds a 100% approval rating with Planned Parenthood, a rare position for a GOP politician.
On the national scene, CNN’s Harry Enten is the latest mainstream media voice to note that a Trump victory is appearing likely. Enten wrote on X on Wednesday, “If Trump wins, the signs were there all along. No incumbent party has won another term with so few voters saying the country is on the right track (8%) or when the president’s net approval rating is so low (Biden’s at -15 pts). Also, big GOP registration gains in key states.”

Still haven’t spelled the Governor’s first name correctly.
My response to Mike’s VDC article.
First, not sure why there it such commotion over my “Our Turn” get out the vote piece. I wish the reporter would have contact me for my intent on authoring this piece.
My intent is not MAGA, this was my way of getting people out to vote for common-sense thinking Vermonters and my President.
After I didn’t get the top vote on August 8, I continued to travel across our beautiful State to campaign with people. Our State and the People are very endearing to me and “We The People” must step-up and change the trajectory of Vermont. Governor Scott needs help to move Vermont into a more positive and just direction. I said on the campaign trail thourghout the Primary season, and that Ii support President Trump too.
I believe President Trump and his policies and how great the economy were under his leadership, and how America became the leading supplier of energy across the globe, and how our Borders were managed. I don’t care for the drama and nasty words but his policies were the best and we all benefited from them daily.
As for Governor Phil Scott, I have my differences with him, I recognize them and fight for what I believe in. Whether you like him or not, he is the only thing holding Vermont from being total Marxists friends. He did say some nice words about me on “The Morning Drive” radio show before the Primary when a caller asked him “Governor, does Greg Thayer have common-sense?” Scott replied; “Greg Thayer has common-sense and has do some good things…”
Bottomline, we need solid Vermonters under the Gold Dome doing the Peoples busines in a fair way with less government and personal responsibility. He knows it, i know, and You know it friends. We are going to agree 100% of the time but we need to find common ground and work together on the disagreements.
There are great facts in my flyer here. I hope that people will approach it in a positive light to lift people up and VOTE the Trump/Vance, Scott, and Malloy and for Republicans down ticket to put common-sense real Vermont thinkers in leadership roles to save Vermont and America!
Big on this piece, I strongly encourage you all, everyone of us to contact 20/25 people to Vote for Republicans loudly and widely. I did not do this with any malice or MAGA intent. Thank you and God bless you and your family.

HEY HEY PFIZER PHIL, HOW MANY VERMONTERS DID YOU KILL?????? Vermont is a mindless COVID swamp.
I am shocked Scott has not yet denounced the endorsement given the connection to MAGA. Must be he took the day off from politics with his lead in the polls. Don’t be surprised if he comments on it at some point.
We talk about voting the lesser of two evils. Certainly that is what the Vermont governor vote will be. It certainly is a fine line between Democratic and RINO Scott, . . . . . . yet that’s what we got
The only line I see is Scott pretending to be a republican but never foils or vigorously opposes the Marxist! And yet as a republican, he is endorsed by the liberals, hmmmmm. BTW, I use liberals, Marxist and democrats interchangeably, I see no difference.
At the risk of being repetitive, I reiterate that besides having Democrat John Rogers now be a Republican run for Lt. Governor. is an example of how screwed up the state of the Republican party is in Vermont, look no further than the Republican poster IT’S OUR TURN. You got a picture of King Philip the Scott 1st Eunuch King of Castrati in the middle of Trump & JD and Gerald Malloy. It’s one of two things. It’s either an oxymoron or blasphemy. There are good candidates like Kevin Hoyt and others we can write in, and they may lose but the choices they want to give us? Well why send a wolf when a weasel will do.
The Jellyfish should replace the Elephant as the logo for the Republican Party in Vermont. It fits perfectly, spineless, brainless, heartless, eats its own, craps thru its mouth and is full of poison.
“A people who elect corrupt politicians, impostors, thieves and traitors are not victims but accomplices”. – George Orwell
BRAVO! Well said and my sentiments too! I already have voted and I did a write in for gov and lt gov. I had no other choice.
King Philip the Scott 1st Eunuch King of Castrati, now the poster boy for the MAGA movement.
https://vermontdailychronicle.com/vermonters-should-do-everything-they-can-to-stop-trump-scott-says/
The Jellyfish is already used by the Democrats as they have no spine.
If I am reincarnated, I hope I come back as a fly on the wall in Phill Scotts office when he has to call President Trump on the phone to ask him for something.
One of those things is not like the others…….
Either Thayer is groveling or maybe he’s trying to get fewer dems to vote for Scott, hopefully it’s the later.
Best thing that could happen is getting rid of the excuse for “keeping Vermont” fiscally conservative….we’ve got double digit hikes coming our way in property taxes, with our current fiscally conservative tactic.
Dems need to own their mess. Vermonters need to feel the pain which they are imposing upon us……..we need to orchestrate a different conversation, because currently we’re not heard, we’re not effective and we can’t even control the topics of discussion.
Things need to change in Vermont.
Well, unless Scott Republicans and MAGA Republicans can iron out their issues enough to at least work together, we will never be a major party in this socialist blue dystopia. Scott Republicans run purely local races and do not want to offend Democrats. MAGA Republicans are less worried about being nice to Democrats, who have put the screws to all of us. In the spirit of intra party cooperation, this year we put Scott on our lawn for the first time in a while, and we voted for him for the first time in a while. We voted for Thayer in the primary, but he didn’t have Scott Republicans’ support and lost. Rodgers will not get many MAGA votes. He may win with Democrat votes, but it is a close call.
I almost spit my coffee out when I saw the confused candidate Gregory Thayer giving kudos to governor Philip Scott for the way he handled COVID and other things…
Maybe Greg is into being forced to put injections into his body and gets excited when asked to tattle on his neighbors…
Maybe he owns stock in Walmart and probably doesn’t go to church anyhow or didn’t miss not being able to attend mass during the REIGN of TERROR under dictator Scott…
Or maybe secretly Gregory supports the Biden crime family along with his buddy Phil Scott
All I know is we see a bunch of weak kneed Republican candidates claiming they are going to save us from the terrible left while sitting in Phil Scott’s lap holding hands.
This kind of behavior has become commonplace with Gregory Thayer…
He did the same thing with Joe Benning after calling him every name in the book.. Gregory Thayer was totally against everything the Joe Benning stood for starting with article 22 and then went on to write a big article why we should be supporting Joe Benning…
Now Is Gregory Thayer is on again telling us why we should be supporting Phil Scott who has all but destroyed the state of Vermont…
When Greg lights up his pen the comedy hour begins…
Scott and Rogers are not republicans as I define a republican.

You know why dogs sniff each others butts? In the closing days before a selection, Vermont politicians do the same thing for similar reasons when it comes to endorsements. If they happen to win their seat, they lose their whole head up there.
Perhaps having one’s phone number in Governor Wind Sock’s contacts list is a coveted trophy consolation prize as well. So many board and committee positions to be had with the next legislative session of Acts to study how to enact. Grifters gotta grift and hogs at the trough.
On Vermont digger they are trying to smear some people who donated to republicans, as the rich owning the republican party…
https://vtdigger.org/2024/11/01/in-vermonts-most-competitive-senate-races-10-wealthy-families-contributed-one-third-of-gop-candidates-donations/
What is really sad is the numbers, they are calling $5,000 influential????
Planned Parenthood offered $3500 to any candidate who would get a 100% on their questionnaire….
How about Balaint getting a Million dollars from ONE PERSON>…who got the money from FTX, who Got the money from ukraine, who got the money from the us taxpayer….
One thing they know well is how to grift.
If it was serious support, each candidate should have gotten $100k/$200k….to run their campaigns. It show the level of seriousness, the level of planning and need for change does NOT exist within the VTGOP….
We are talking $7500 each on average for their campaign……..that’s chicken feed. And now the Dems are already, on Vermont Digger, claiming they have a mandate to do what the want to do, because they are still going to win those seats,
See how propaganda works….it really does work.
Scott got millions to fend off the “evil” grocer Keith Stern, who would have been 10x the governor…..
Where’s the love? All talk, no action = VTGOP
Would love to see the percentage of VT money vs outside money for each candidate.
What does Thayer’s unsuccessful run for Lt Gov and his attendance to the January 6th protest in DC , have to do with this current political ad he wrote concerning Vermonts 2024 elections?
“giving kudos to governor Philip Scott for the way he handled COVID and other things…”. ? According to the above article that wasn’t anything Thayer said, it was from an article in the Boston Globe. Again nothing to do with Thayer’s ad.
“Weak kneed republicans “? Goodness me, I hope no one thinks of Malloy in that manner.
I don’t like Scott one bit. However, I’m baffled as to why Gregory’s ad would even warrent an article written about it in the VDC. And what’s with all Thayer trash talking? I guess I’m missing something here.
