There are public forums this week and next week for residents in seven Vermont towns to learn about potential Act 73 impacts to local school districts, the Journal-Opinion reported Monday.

“Act 73 of 2025 establishes a process for Vermont to transition to a reimagined system of public education featuring larger school districts, a weighted student funding formula, and a statewide tax rate,” states the Vermont Agency of Education. “Act 73 also paves the way for statewide graduation requirements and a statewide calendar, class size minimums, state aid for school construction, and revised criteria for independent schools to receive public dollars.”

Monday’s forum is at 6 p.m. Blue Mountain Union where residents of Groton, Wells River, Ryegate and surrounding communities are invited to attend.

The forum will provide community members with an opportunity to learn more about Act 73, ask questions, and engage in meaningful discussion about the law’s impact on Vermont’s schools, families, and communities. Local leaders, educators, and stakeholders will be present to share insights and respond to community input.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

BMU is part of Orange East Supervisory Union and the other OESU districts will hold Act 73 community discussions over the coming days: Tuesday, Sept. 23 6 p.m. Oxbow Union High School, Wednesday, Sept. 24 6 p.m. Waits River Valley School, Tuesday, Sept. 30 6 p.m. Thetford Elementary School.

The discussions come ahead of a meeting held by the Vermont Redistricting Task Force at Oxbow High School on Friday, Oct. 10. The task force will submit recommendations to the Vermont Legislature for action during the next session, which begins in January.

Whether or not you make it to one of the discussions, OESU has developed a survey to gather thoughts.

  1. This is a dog and pony show. The end result will be these bureaucrat elites will force this on the Vermont citizens just like Act 60 and Act 46. Hang onto your wallets Vermonters for this latest money and freedom sucking plan from the progressives in Montpelier.
