Letter: Why I left Vermont

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

by Tom Licata

I sold my Burlington house last month and moved to Florida. The vast majority of Burlington’s and Vermont’s citizenry deserve what they are getting, either through their voting habits or apathy or (mostly) willful share ofignorance and stupidity.

And of course we can’t forget Vermont’s vast Leftist indoctrination machinery via its media (think WCAX, Seven Days, VT Digger, VPR, etc.) outlets and the Leftist control of its education system and Vermont’s Leftist vast bureaucracy.

And… it will get worse.

I summarize this very sick ‘progressive’ onslaught that has been going on in Vermont for some three decades now as ‘the three Ds’: Division, Destruction, and Deception.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, the great author and Soviet dissident was once asked how millions were murdered and tortured during the socialist and communist reign in the USSR; and-paraphrasing-he answered that ‘man had forgotten God’.

  1. When someone flees, they help the opposition win. By withdrawing you aid them. Those who care will stay and fight.

    • Timothy, I understand the desire to want to continue the fight. But I’m very sympathetic to Tom. After watching the train wreck in Vermont for the last 30 years and realizing that it likely will never get better, I understand the desire to move to a better place. Sometimes you just need to know when to fold them.

  2. Not sure about the message but willing to bet the woman hitching a ride did not have long to wait for someone to pull over………

  3. I agree with you, Tom. I will be joining you. I have now been unemployed for two years. There is no meaningful employment for business professionals. The state makes no attempt to attract employers, and the telecommuting work has dried up due to the complexity of state requirements and excessive taxation. I applied for 3 jobs, got one interview and got a job as an assistant to a marketing director and grant writer in my new hone state. I have spent 7 years fighting progressive politics with no avail. DEI, social justice and a global-progressive agenda run through all level of government in Vermont. I am moving on to greener pastures where opportunity if plentiful.
