Who’s running for governor, lieutenant governor in August 13 primary?

by Rep. Jim Harrison (photos, some content added by VDC)

This year’s August 13 primary election will have on the ballot nominees for all statewide offices, including governor and lieutenant governor, as well as state senate and state representative.

This is your opportunity to select the candidates that will be our choices on the November ballot. As has been said before, “Elections have consequences,” so be sure to vote.

Vermont has an open primary system. A voter can select the Democratic, Progressive or Republican ballot and vote for candidates listed or write in your choice.

There are no contested primaries for the statewide offices of attorney general, treasurer, or auditor. Here’s some info about the contested primary candidates for governor and lieutenant governor.

Governor
Republican – Phil Scott (uncontested). Democrat – Esther Charlestin and Peter Duval. Charlestin is a former equity director in the Middlebury schools and lists herself as a small business owner. Duval is a part time sailing instructor and substitute teacher living in Underhill. See this July 25 Vermont Public debate between Democratic candidates.

Lieutenant Governor
Republican – John Rogers and Gregory Thayer. Rogers is a former Democratic State Senator from Orleans County who feels he is too moderate for today’s Democratic party and has led forums at the State House this past spring critical of recent actions by the legislature, including those adding costs to Vermonters. Thayer is a former member of the Rutland Board of Aldermen, 2022 candidate for lieutenant governor, and Vermont campaign manager for Trump. Vermont Public will host a debate between Republican candidates for Lt Governor on Vermont Edition on Tuesday, July 30 at noon.

Democrat – Thomas Renner and David Zuckerman. Renner is the Asst. Mayor in Winooski and a member of Congresswoman Becca Balint’s staff. Zuckerman is an organic farmer and current lieutenant governor. He has sought the Progressive nomination as well in past elections. Vermont Public will host a debate between Democratic candidates for Lt Governor on Vermont Edition on Wednesday, July 31 at noon.

Rep. Jim Harrison is running uncontested for the Republican nomination for the Mendon-Killington House seat he now holds.

  1. David Zuckerman, the MA liberal came to VT looking for the goose that laid the golden egg. He found it in Montpelier. Article in the Seven Days paper, he admits padding travel money “expenses he didn’t have. If he gets elected to anything he’ll find the golden egg while the taxpayer looses their egg due to his policies and mentality. Montpelier, the Golden Dome welfare capitol. Zuckerman and Kowiniski make a great pair scrubbing each other’s back.

    • …carpetbagged here from Mass, just like Brooklyn Bernie from NYC, to be big fish in a small pond. Who can blame them…it worked out well for both of them.

  2. There is only one candidate in the race for Lt. Gov. in the state of VT that has the ability to defeat David Zuckerman and that is John S Rodgers.

John has finally realized that the place for his commonsense approach to helping Vermonters is in the Republican Party.

I have known John for several years now and continually has proven to be a man of honesty and in integrity.

John is one of the few candidates in the State of Vermont that I can say I trust to produce good results for Vermonters.

John has been a staunch defender of the rights of Vermonters fighting with the rest of us to stop the infringement of the rights of Vermonters.

For years he stood with us on the statehouse steps to protest the theft of right that we hold so dear.

During our conversations John has brought to light many of his ideas to stop the theft of taxes from the hard-working Vermonters.

John S Rodgers is the only candidate in the Republican Party that can defeat David Zuckerman in the GENERAL ELECTION for Lieutenant Governor.

Join me in making sure we vote for John S Rodgers in the PRIMARY ELECTION August 13, 2024.

Vermonters let’s be sure we elect a candidate that can take out DAVID ZUCKERMAN in the PRIMARY ELECTION.

We stand a fighting chance to put Vermont back on the right track.

    • I totally agree for several reasons, but esp. for those of us still owning a smaller farm. I am third generation here, and it has become more and more difficult to maintain it and remain as open land.

    • I have waited for someone of John Roger’s character to appear on statewide ballot for many years. This is a rare opportunity to turn the tide on special interest, progressive politics in Montpelier. That hard working Vermonters can again sustain a living and be proud of the state of their birth. God bless you John.

    • John is a good man, no doubt.
      He’s not going to win.

      Why?

      VTDEMS will not allow it.
VTDEMs will have an internet smear campaign against him nobody but dem voter will see.  They are EXTREMELY well organized if anything.
VTDEMS NEVER let anybody step out of line, they took John out within the party for not following their mandates.
VT Dems will cancel him, massively.

We need to know the battlefield upon which we walk onto. This is asymmetrical warfare and you sir are sending John Rodgers to be cannon fodder to his old party.

Then the next question is….if we can’t win this office? Who can we support to rebuild the VTGOP into a productive, liberty, constitutional defending party?

Then the choice becomes very clear. Gregory Thayer, he’s already worked in and helped support one of the few remaking strong holds of republicans in the state…..

We need to build a team, Gregory Thayer is a good team member.
      We need to support him.
      He has my vote.

I bet Trump would vote for him over this field too.

  3. So being a conservative in my seventies, this list boggles the mind, the Governor’s race is pretty bleak, and against better judgment, left-leaning Scott gets the vote as far as Lt.Gov John Rodgers seems to be the choice, even he sees how bad the Dems have become, and jumped ship to help save the state

I am not sure if there are any blue-collar Democrats remaining in the state, the progressive cancer has silenced them ……..but maybe they’ll wake up and right this sinking ship

Let’s send the progressive grifter trash to the curb or maybe back to their home states, they may live here, but they are not Vermonters, if they were they wouldn’t be destroying the state !!

  4. the slime balls that were in power when govie shut the state down pushing the covid kill shot all belong in jail////

  5. It was nice of VDC (or the author) to remove all the VT Digger links Rep Harrison put in his email to his constituents. Wonder why he never links to any conservative outlets?????
And he calls himself a republican…and then people wonder why we are the mess we are in!!!!!!!!!!!

    • My friends and family be joining me in voting for Gregory Thayer. He is an unapologetic defender of liberty and will advocate for fiscal responsibility and lowering taxes.

  6. If anyone wants to see the truth about Gregory Thayer all they have to do is check out the web page Gregorythayer.com.

Type it type this in and wait for it to load…

It gives a timeline of the events of the write in campaign for Gregory Thayer.

Gregory stated that we did an unauthorized write in campaign for him but his messages prove him to be a liar…

It exposes all of the facts about how we asked us to do a write in campaign for him and shows the messages that were sent back and forth from Gregory to Richard Ley.

I cannot support Gregory Thayer for any position in Vermont government when he has proven to be a liar..

He has lied about my good name he has lied about the others that have supported him in his write in campaign after asking us to do so.

Please go check out the web page I provided for the facts regarding Gregory Thayer.

Once a liar always a liar.

How can we trust someone willing to lie to the voting public with help from many of the GOP groups covering up his lies?

I cannot believe that anyone with an ounce of ethics can support a candidate who is lying to the public…

Vermonters we have to do better..

We may not agree with everything John Rodgers says but he has served us well defending our rights for years on the statehouse steps when they were being snatched by the Democrat party.

John has been relentless and protecting the constitutional rights of Vermonters.

John is the only candidate that can defeat David zuckerman in the general election.

Please cast your vote for John in the primary election in August and again in the general election.

It’s time to clean up the politics in the state of Vermont..

    .

    • Nobody is going to defeat Zuckerman. We need to rebuild the VTGOP, Gregory Thayer, is the best we have to build a team around. We need to stop thinking about “winning” a statewide election and start building a TEAM.

We have no team in the VTGOP
We have no money in the VTGOP
We have no organization in the VTGOP
We have division in the VTGOP
We have no MAGA in the VTGOP

We have no Grand Old Party in Vermont.
      We have democrats.

Any of these candidates support Trump? What……nobody willing to stand up?
Should we be so blessed that Trump doesn’t get shot before the election, and he get in office, it might be a rare opportunity that our VTGOP gets rebuilt.

Who do you think Trump is going to work best with?
      Gregory Thayer.

That’s why he has my vote, we need a Team that at the very least understands the issues, the problems, the polish will come.

Gregory Thayer has my vote, because we need to build a team, and he would be great first start for the team……and Trump would like him to be in a position of authority for the VTGOP, not doubt.

    • went to YOUR web site called gregorythayer.com.
sounds like a nightmare for sure.
have you ever made a mistake?
we have all lied, to suggest otherwise is not very self-reflective

This web site is also very revealing about whom put it up and owns it. Very much so.

My read on this, is a person very upset with current leading trends in Vermont that was brought into a very bad plan, of becoming a write in candidate out of frustration of what is happening within our state and within our party. It is a fool’s errand to be a write in candidate, you’ve personally pushed this 2x to my knowledge.

Joe Benning knew for example that Molly wasn’t qualified, didn’t mee the basic requirements to hold Vermont office, but he and the VTGOP did nothing…..knowingly.

I was in the state house, met some amazing people, well informed, several times. Problem is; Montpelier is operating as a democracy and those going to the State house are operating as a republic. Montpelier could care less about the constitution, they care about money and power, via majority…..so they will kindly take your rights and money, away from you. Their masters are Agenda 2030, 2050…the administrative state, aka NWO.

It’s asymmetrical warfare. The current game plan hasn’t worked for 30 years, doesn’t matter if you’re “right”……when you still lose, everyone loses.

We are all terribly flawed, most definitely myself included.

The frog was surprised that the scorpion stung him crossing the river, both drowning, others were not.

      TGBTG

  7. Interesting conversations and also self-sabotage within the VTGOP, some things never change.

Richard Ley and others promoted John Rodgers when Keith Sterns was running for Governor. Keith would have been a good governor. Keith Sterns had one of the very best results against Governor Scott. John was a right in candidate last minute. I’ve nothing against John Rodgers, met him at the Fire Station in Warren Vermont where they had a nice introduction of candidates.

Who is going to build the republican party? John Rodgers?
Who is going to get support from President Trump? John Rodgers?

Who stood on the overpass protesting the commie dictator love child Trudo when the truckers were protesting?

Who stood by real leaders when the vote was stolen in the Unites States?
Who stood against popular Marxist candidates in the VTDEM and VTGOP Party?

Who has built and worked in one of the only remaining republican strong holds within out state? John Rodgers? Nope…

So, I might agree that Gregory Thayer could use a Marxist decoder ring and a Marxist trigger alert, such that he doesn’t immediately trigger our indoctrinated populace. And he very well many not win. The winning money would be, for Vermont, Zuckerman.

However, if you want to build the VTGOP into anything productive in the future there is only one choice to vote….that would be Gregory Thayer. We need to build a team, we keep thinking we’ll win, big office and everything will be better.

We need to build a team. Gregory Thayer would be a first good team member, building block for the VTGOP, regardless of if he wins the general election. We need a team member that is at the very least smart enough, strong enough and willing enough to support the bigger picture and the bigger winner, President Donald J. Trump.

Who do you think Trump would want in Vermont office? That answers whom you should vote for right there.

You can’t build an American team, who will defend the constitution, who will go up against the New World Order machine if the team member already plays or has submitted to the NWO…….much to Thayer’s credit, HE has stood on the right side when in enemy Territory.

Greggory Thayer has my vote for the above-mentioned reasons, I hope others join me in supporting a much-needed change in the VTGOP.

    • Neil I always enjoy reading your posts but you have left the door open to corrections.

When you say Ley and others promoted John Rogders for governor.. Who are the others?

Are you aware of the gun owners of Vermont was supporting John Rodgers for governor and would have never supported Keith Stern if they knew that John was going to run.

I’ll explain to you one more time the reason that John Rodgers was being supported is because he was the best candidate at the time..

Instead of bashing him if we had elected him we would be in wonderful shape in the state of Vermont today..

I can’t ever recall seeing you at rallies on the statehouse steps where John Rodgers was always present to fight for our constitutional rights. Neil were you ever present at these rallies?

I’m sure you must understand that John put himself at risk with the Democrat party standing arm and arm with Republicans and independence to fight them to retain our constitutional rights in the state of Vermont.

As a matter of fact I don’t ever recall saying Gregory Thayer at any of these events either..

And to be perfectly honest I can’t recall saying Keith Stern at these events.

Have you chosen to participate Neil, you would have had the opportunity to meet John Rodgers and speak to him man to man and realize what a wonderful gentleman he is..

I used to attend every one of the rallies regardless of weather driving a long distance in terrible conditions in the winter to make sure I was there to fight side by side with John Rodgers.

As a matter of fact I think you live in that neck of the woods don’t you?

As far as Gregory Thayer goes have you taken the time to check out the web page

      Gregorythayer.com?

This page exposes the lies he has been telling about the people that supported him and to the voters in the state of Vermont..

If you have read this and still support him I have to question your integrity..

You question whether John Rogers can build support in the Republican party… I don’t think there’s any question about that he has already achieved that…

Tell me honestly do you think Donald Trump would support a liar like Gregory Thayer?

I think not… I think Trump would denounce him in a minute along with the rest of the people that have been lying to the American public.

There’s only one candidate in this race that has been totally honest with the voters in the state of Vermont and that is John Rofgers.

He has explained very precisely why he left a Democrat party and became a Republican..

John did a great job under the Golden dome in Montpelier Vermont serving for many years and as Lieutenant governor will keep all of the hardworking Vermonters informed and in mind when dealing with government.

In spite of the fact I don’t agree with everything John Rodgers says you can bet when he looks you in the eye and speaks to you he is speaking the truth..

This is no time to be fooling around entertaining The known liar Gregory Thayer to become lieutenant Governor..

Our state is at risk and we have enough candidates that are totally dishonest and we don’t need to add to their numbers.

John Rodgers is clearly The most qualified candidate running for Lieutenant governor that can be elected by drawing votes from both sides of the aisle and defeating David zuckerman.

Speaking of Donald Trump I believe he was a Democrat once too wasn’t he and look what he did for the Republican party..

John Rogers is a hard-working farmer who does landscaping and stone walls so he knows what hard work is..

John has children and grandchildren in the state of Vermont and I’m sure he wants to pay a wonderful future for these children..

I have total faith in John Rodgers as do many voters who have done the research on the candidates and agree he is the best candidate for Lieutenant governor in the state of Vermont to preserve this beautiful state we live in.

I’m encouraging everyone to vote for John Rodgers for Lieutenant Governor in the state of Vermont.

We need to be extremely careful about the candidates we elect because we are on the verge of losing our beautiful state..

    • Like I said I appreciate your comments as wrong as they are..

Gregory Thayer came to us and asked us to form a write-in campaign for him..

It’s not a simple mistake and he involved many people.

Why would you attempt to make excuses for that?

We all make mistakes but we don’t all lie continually about the mistakes we made.

If you read what was written on that web page you will see the Gregory Thayer denies he was involved in the write in campaign… If you read closely he claims it was in unauthorized write in
      on his behalf…

What is exposed on that web page is minimal in comparison to the texts that I have from Gregory Thayer.

Neil you can attempt to cover up for a liar who uses the GOP to keep his lies from being exposed to the voting public..

I don’t think that’s good policy for the GOP to cover up for a candidate like that when we have a candidate that does not lie to the voting public and that is John Rodgers..

When you make a post you expect us to believe what you are saying in spite of the fact you never produce any proof to support what you were saying..

There is plenty of proof here that not only did Gregory Thayer ask us to do this campaign for him but then he lies to us and goes on to support Joe Benning and even endorse him in an article on True North reports.

Yes this was the same same Joe Benning that called Trump supporters White supremacists and racists… The same Joe Benning who said if you were a Trump supporter you could not be a part of the Republican party..

Yep that’s the same guy Gregory Thayer went on to endorse so he could try to assure himself another run in the Republican party..

We need to clean up our politics and elect public officials with credentials… Not lies!

Come on Neil you can’t be fooled this easily can you?

      Or maybe you can?

    • It’s why it is very clear the VTGOP is clearly corrupt, which is why we chose to start a different party. The conversations on this site, the actions of the people on this site show clearly, it’s a failed party. The results will once again prove that this election, wishing you the very best.

  8. Just think, if Gregory Thayer invited Donald J. Trump to a fundraiser for the VTGOP, it would be the largest political gathering the state has ever seen in its ENTIRE existence.

Huh, then the VTGOP would have some money, novel idea.
They currently wouldn’t know what to do with it, which is why they don’t have it.

None of these candidates, other than Thayer would do that. So, Thayer is the only one that wants to build the party, to make a winning team, aren’t you sick of losing to the super majority?

We could have some change within the party and in Vermont, but WE have to change first. WE have to stop voting for different shades of New World Order pimps…..

We need to vote for those who know we ARE NOT A DEMOCRACY for God’s sake we don’t even agree upon what we are supposed to be within our own party so how do we expect things to change?

Thayer had the courage to stand up for serious things that went against the very well-being of our persons, our state and our country. That would be a team member I could support, stand by and want to stand by me.

Otherwise, we’ll have more mask mandates, our kids will get pimped out in our government schools, we’ll have more new world order climate nonsense, which when you use your Marxist decoder ring, comes out as “Give us all your money, and we’ll save the planet”…..while they live in big houses on the beach.

We need to build a team. There is only one candidate fit to build a team around for the VTGOP and Lt. Governor position. God Speed.

  9. What I learned from failure.

A D next to your name can get 60%
An R next to your name can get 30%
No campaign money needed for the above.
Write in candidates have little or no chance of winning.

Without a team you can’t win a baseball game, regardless of how outstanding a pitcher you may be.

Clear and relatable topics to address, that affect all Vermonters can win, regardless of party.

People struggle with change, very much so.

In order to bring about change, perhaps the following are needed.

    Vision
    Skills
    Incentives
    Resources
    Action Plan

Money, people and energy are waiting on the sidelines for some heart felt, needed change in our state. Our pocketbooks along with every retail store in Vermont are getting robbed blind.

Vermont is Unaffordable, Vermont has a drug problem, Vermont Schools are broken

Three relatable, issues that cut massively across all party lines. I’d posit that a group of people singing the same song would perhaps do well in our little subverted state.

Being cannon fodder is not good for soul or body, messy business it is.

  10. Neil I told ya this is a BLOOD SPORT… I also told ya you didn’t know what you were getting into.. I will be voting for John…

    • Wishing you and John the very best this election.

The VTGOP and many of the operatives in it are in it for themselves. Yes, it’s very corrupt system, which is why we decided to try something outside the system, failed, and learned a ton. There are many operatives within and outside the party, no doubt.

Nothing will get done this election year, of any productive outcomes within the VTGOP, because they like it just the way it is. Perhaps you and John and Richard will bring about a transformation and lead us into the correct direction. That would be a blessing for sure.

The strongest force against corruption, is not fighting, ask the Romans. When a country and a people set themselves up as the center of the universe, of ideas, of power and money, we get the disfunction we are currently enjoying.

The election will decide if you were correct. Best of luck, we certainly need change.

  11. Neil.. the MONEY trail is huge in such a small state on both sides of the aisle… until that is gone what we have is what we have and are going to have… just one other fact if you took all the write in vote from John that year and gave them to Keith.. Keith still would have lost against Phil Scott…
