Liberal media think-tank publicizes conservative, computer-generated “Vermont Business Daily”

July 17, 2020 – NiemanLab, a national, liberal-leaning media think-tank, has pegged the “Vermont Business Daily” as a conservative, partisan news website. This news led to longtime Vermont conservative media watchers to ask, “what the heck is Vermont Business Daily?”
A quick web search shows that content for the online news outlet is indeed updated daily, on both website and Facebook platforms. According to NiemanLab, VBD is located in Montpelier and belongs to the “ “Franklin Archer Metro Business” network.
The network appears to be owned by Locality Labs, a Delaware LLC. News coverage seems to focus heavily on press releases, re-prints from other online news sites. It also “doxes” every donor to the Bernie Sanders campaign committee, even small, unknown contributors. Locality Labs was founded by Brian Timpone, a conservative businessman who publishes news websites that use computer algorithms to find and publish news.
Articles are written by John Suayan, whose work also appears in many other online news publication from the U.S., including the Southeast Texas Record, the Galveston County Daily News, and many others, according to Muckrack.com.
