First U.S. senator to do so – Biden resolute to run for second term

By Guy Page

In a commentary published in the Washington Post yesterday, U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vermont) became the first Democratic U.S. senator to call for President Joseph Biden to withdraw from the race for president.

Eight House members and many Democratic Party operatives have called for Biden to withdraw from the race and allow Democratic Party officials to pursue another nominee before or during the August 19-22 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, however, believes Biden can beat Trump and that policy, not a candidate’s physical condition, should drive the party’s choice of a nominee (see YouTube short video).

Bernie Sanders: presidency is not “Grammy Award contest for best singer.”

The Welch op-ed is behind the newspaper’s omnipresent paywall. “We need him to put us first, as he has before,” reads the subtitle for the brief op-ed calling for Biden to put the country’s needs before his personal preferences.

Welch said:

“I have great respect for President Biden. He saved our country from a tyrant. He is a man of uncommon decency. He cares deeply about our democracy. He has been one of the best presidents of our time.

“But I, like folks across the country, am worried about November’s election. The stakes could not be higher. We cannot unsee President Biden’s disastrous debate performance. We cannot ignore or dismiss the valid questions raised since that night.

“I understand why President Biden wants to run. He saved us from Donald Trump once and wants to do it again. But he needs to reassess whether he is the best candidate to do so. In my view, he is not.

“For the good of the country, I’m calling on President Biden to withdraw from the race.”

Welch’s comments are consistent with his initial response to the June 27 debate, which he shared at a UVM journalism conference the next morning:

Sanders took a different tack July 7 on CBS’s ‘Face The Nation.’

“President Biden can clearly defeat Donald Trump, the most dangerous president in the history of this country. And the choice is quite clear. You got in Trump, somebody wants to take away a woman’s right to control her body, who thinks that climate change is a hoax, And it has turned his back on the working class of this country. And on the other side, you have Joe Biden, first president in American history to walk a picket line; we have put more money into fighting climate change than any time in the history of this country; we’re rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure.

“I’ve already done six events in Wisconsin, we’ve been to New York, I’ve been to Ohio. And let’s- let me say this, and maybe the most important point, Bob [Costa, FTN host], I want to make this morning: what we’re talking about now is not a Grammy Award contest for best singer. Biden is old, he’s not as articulate as he once was. I wish he could jump up the steps on Air Force One. He can’t. What we have got to focus on is policy. Whose policies have and will benefit the vast majority of the people in this country?”

  1. If Senator Welch thinks President Biden should withdraw from the campaign, why didn’t he say that Biden should resign as President? If he isn’t healthy enough to campaign, is Peter satisfied with a part time President?

    • From the pan to the fire… the move is on to replace Biden with Kamala Harris. It has been proclaimed by NPR with this morning’s recasting of Harris’s exemplary character and demonstrable capabilities. But clearly, this empress has no clothes either.

    • Don’t bank on harris just yet. she has the campaign fund dollars, for now- but hillary has been vociferous as of late. clinton and obama have to make a deal as well as approve biden’s deal, after hunter and dr. jill make theirs…. and the best interests of the USA certainly will not enter into any deal. obama is still in the backseat of the limo, giving instructions

    • Frank, I’m not banking on Harris. NPR is… for now. I’ve heard the Hillary alternative too. In my opinion, it no longer matters who the democrat candidate is. The jig is up. The receipts are there for all to see. I’m watching our president babble on to NATO now as I write this missive. May God help us.

What concerns me is this – who is running the country today while this chaos ensues? Somehow, we, as a country, must survive until November. Somehow, Trump must survive. ‘These are the times that try men’s souls.’

  2. Tyrant? All I am going to say is that Trump didn’t threaten Americans to take an experimental vaccine as a contingency of employment. And then, fire the Americans that didn’t comply. Biden and the Democrat party own that tyrannical behavior. Nor did he pursecute his political opposition or declare parents at school board meetings as domestic terrorists. The Biden administration did all that and more with the assistance and support of national media and its corporate stakeholders.

    • The only thing Welch is good at is gaslighting. The real tyrant is Biden and everyone knows it. Democrats telegraph who they are by the lies they tell about the other side.

  3. Look for Welch to be part of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. (yes, a misnomer) The WaPo is the mouthpiece for US Intelligence agencies, Welch was directed to write that op-ed and submit it to The WaPo.
biden’s exit from the presidency is a negotiation, being negotiated by son hunter and dr. jill- for the best deal possible for the biden family interests. Presidential Library dollars, pardons and funding of select NGO’s and charities are all part of this. We’ll know exactly which ones, once hunter and dr. jill assume their positions on boards of directors.
Welch is merely parroting the IC communities warnings to the biden family.
Sound like conspiracy theory? The past eight years have proven otherwise.

  4. Welch, like so many of his liberal, horse’s-ass friends, loves throwing around labels that define him and his party far better than those they direct them towards.

  5. Again, this entire charade has been planned & plotted for years. Where exactly fiction ends & some semblance of reality (at least whatever reality democrats are capable of perceiving within their twisted, tyrannical minds) begins is anyone’s guess, but their big reveal as to who will be the ACTUAL POTUS candidate is soon to be revealed.

Any evening now, perhaps this evening, Biden will announce in teary-eyed but fist-thumping fashion his decision, for the good of the nation but of COURSE, to step down and turn the reins over to the next puppet who will dutifully continue Obama’s FOURTH term as our Communist revolutionary and chief social engineer.

The political pundits will initially wail and weep on cue & there shall be much gnashing of teeth – stage left. But the peons and peasants who once were looked upon as “The People” who held the ultimate power over this nation & its guiding principles, will be instead required to accept and endorse the newly anointed overlord – who will in all likelihood be either Mitchell Obama, Gavin Newsom, Chuckie Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries or any one of the other Commie degenerates from the new “Democrat Socialist” party. Tasked with thoroughly delivering the final blow to a nation conceived in liberty – but one that is poised to be concluded in Communism, the lemmings ready themselves to flock to their designated drop-boxes and polling places to happily help sabotage what was once the freest nation ever established on the face of the earth. The enemy was indeed always within. And McCarthy was unquestionably correct.

    • I think Kathleen is right….this is all tyrannical theater. Which candidate will destroy this authoritarian establishment that doesn’t give a rat what the Republic’s people think? To me it’s obvious. Between the current situation, 2020/2022 elections and lawfare it should be obvious to everyone they are cheating. I hear my liberal peers cheer on Welch and say they just hope the democrats get behind one person. Wait, aren’t the people supposed to select the candidates? They don’t care. They huddle around their smart speakers listening to national propaganda radio all frickin day and night cheering on the state that doesn’t give a hoot about them, only power. We need to turn out in mass and beat the cheat. When i said months ago biden wouldn’t be the nominee, they called me names. Are they sick of being wrong? No, they are sheep that have lost their Shepard. God help us all.

  6. Peter Welch is the sort of Statist Bureaucrat George Orwell had in mind when he wrote 1984. These bureaucrats have been shamelessly lying to us about Biden for years. Why would anyone believe anything this Statist would have to say to us? Always remember that Welch’s interests (and all of the other Orwellian Bureaucrats) are in the “State” and protecting his own interests. He could care less about the citizenry other than offering them usual platitudes to distract the unsuspecting.

  7. Well, Vermont these are your two elected Senators, just read their comments you talk about inept, yes we have two totally out of touch with reality, Hopefully, Vermont can retire one in November and get that state back under some sort of stability.

First off I hope everyone watched the ” Debate “, that was no debate, that was the DNC hanging their ” President ” out to dry, we have all seen snippets of this pathetic display of a senile man, being led around by Dr.Jill how deplorable, never mind that he is the leader of the free world or just a sick old man ………………… My God !!

So Peter Welch was the first Senator, ” what a brave soul ” to request that Biden should step down, like he didn’t know for the past three years the condition of Biden’s mental faculties, there must be an opening on a committee Peter wants or he wouldn’t of made that brave move…….. yeah.

Then you have our very own ” Socialist ” Senator Sanders, stating that Biden should stay in, as he is the only one who can beat ” Trump “, are you kidding me, and he’s our senior senator more rhetoric from our barking buffoon

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr has made the United States the world’s laughingstock, and has turned our country into a cesspool, and then we have Sanders & Welch who have made Vermont the nation’s laughingstock, we deserve better !!

    Wake up people.

  8. Welch is ambulance chasing lawyer from Spfld MA. Moved to VT, couldn’t make a living so got elected by his MA liberal buddies that also moved to VT. One thing sure he’s an expert at is that he has 8 kids. So he knows the internal mentality mechanism to apply his talents to Vermonters, and also the country given his power position. The media loves him. The only thing he produced in his life is to increase the world’s population. Leahy finally retired (on a pension) now this guy. His time hasn’t played out, so really can’t compare to Leahy tenure. But, it looks like a similarity.

  9. Seeing a parade and getting in front of it. The op-ed itself is an example opportunistic self-aggrandizement, because instead of airing the party’s dirty laundry like this (and trumpeting their very real fear of losing again to Trump), if he really had respect for Biden, Welch would have talked with him about his concerns, not blared from across the mall a call to clear out.

  10. Welch needed to widen his scope a bit and throw Bernie under the bus as well. Bernie has been spouting incoherent messages for decades and seems to get a pass.

Don’t be too quick to to push Joe out as Kamala is lurking in the wings.

    • And who is perverting justice and thumbing his nose at “democracy” to interfere in the election? The democrat cabal is the most corrupt in the history of the country.

  11. I just love it when the liberals eat themselves, so wonderful

  12. Between Kamala and Trump taking the abortion issue off the table, Trump may break the 30% mark in Vermont this election.

BTW, since Trump wants abortion to be removed from the platform is he still a Conservative or is now a RINO.

    • It doesn’t matter because his lemmings will go along with whatever he says. Notice how quiet it’s been? Wonder why there was no debate victory lap? He knows that if Biden is replaced he can’t win. That and the released Epstein files

    • “He knows that if Biden is replaced, he can’t win.” Replaced by who Chris??? Michael Obama, Hillary “lock her up” Clinton, Gavin “California Kid” Newsom or Kamala “word salad” Harris. So, Trump doesn’t have a chance to win against these awesome candidates, really!! Wow Chris, you need to clean your rose-colored glasses

    • You so easily forget, Mr. Arnold, we’re on to you. Of course, this is yet another of your logical fallacies (i.e., a ‘loaded question’). Trump’s platform doesn’t include the abortion issue because, in case anyone else has already forgotten too, the SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago and, in doing so, returned the responsibility to determine abortion law away from the Federal government and back to the States (i.e., back to ‘democracy’s laboratories’). Trump has clearly stated that he agrees with the SCOTUS decision. Does that make him a Conservative or a RINO? Neither. In my opinion, it makes him Trump.

    • Newsom would beat Trump by 15 points. Is California Kid supposed to be an insult? Wow, better send him to the Shriner hospital after that one

  13. Bernie’s little speech is an excellent example of why decrepit, lazy, public teat sucking losers should NOT be running for public office! Based on his idiotic logic he too should also step down. Go back to Brooklyn and see if you can even pull off being elected for dog catcher.

  14. Welch knows full well that senators are poised to demand Biden’s stepping down…so he jumps in to be the first to recommend Joe Zero step aside…this is just plain arrogance, as Welch desires to be admired as the first to do so. He knows it is a foregone conclusion that Senators, along side many Dem Congressionals who have already done so will be asking for Biden to step aside…You are not my Senator, Peter Welch, you are just a power monger who wants his name in headlines. And you praise Biden for preventing a ‘tyrant” from being elected, while your socialist buddy Bernie calls him the “most dangerous man in America.” I consider you and your Bernie Marxists as the most toxic group to ever infiltrate America and you should be ashamed and judged accordingly…but you don’t care, as long as you collect your paycheck and remain in power as despotic frauds.

  15. Peter, Peter, Nancy’s stock-option eater, how does your bank account grow? As much as I enjoy seeing the serpents eat themselves, our country is in dire, dangerous straits. These criminals steal every nickle and dime they can possibly get their grubbing hands on while Americans are distracted by their bread and circus acts. What is going to upend the tables of the money-changers? It’s likely coming sooner rather than later and I sincerely pray that it does – the collateral damage is getting too high now as it is….

  16. they need to cut a deal get Biden out.
a position where his age is not a factor.
Perhaps a Senate seat in Vermont.
after all he’s younger than Sanders and Leahy when he served.

  17. Welch: “I have great respect for President Biden. He saved our country from a tyrant. He is a man of uncommon decency. He cares deeply about our democracy. He has been one of the best presidents of our time.”

    Welch must not be re-elected.
    20,000,000 illegals is fine.
    Vax mandates we’re fine
A little bribing from China is fine.
Billions laundered through Ukraine is good.
    Climate change is his pitch
    Has made good money somehow.

I would love to get Welch audited.
