The 490-page regulation [from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)] will cover American businesses with at least 100 workers, or about 84 million employees in all. So the government will rely upon a corps of informers [snitches] to identify violations of the order: other employees. “There is no army of OSHA inspectors that is going to be knocking on employers door or even calling them,” said Debbie Berkowitz, a former OSHA chief of staff who is a fellow at Georgetown University’s Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor and the Working Poor. “They’re going to rely on workers and their union representatives to file complaints where the company is totally flouting the law.” [#DoNotComply.]

The Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) unveiled the mandate as an emergency temporary standard last week for every business with 100 or more workers. A federal appeals court panel over the weekend stayed the mandate, or blocked it for now, citing “grave statutory and constitutional issues.”

The U.S. Treasury Is Buying Private App Data to Target and Investigate People –The department will use controversial firm Babel Street to hunt for tax and sanctions dodgers, raising constitutional concerns. | 4 Nov 2021 | The Treasury Department has in recent months expanded its digital surveillance powers, contracts provided to The Intercept reveal, turning to the controversial firm Babel Street, whose critics say it helps federal investigators buy their way around the Fourth Amendment. Two contracts obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request and shared with The Intercept by Tech Inquiry, a research and advocacy group, show that over the past four months, the Treasury acquired two powerful new data feeds from Babel Street: one for its sanctions enforcement branch, and one for the Internal Revenue Service. Both feeds enable government use of sensitive data collected by private corporations not subject to due process restrictions.

FBI Searches Home of Project Veritas Founder O’Keefe – Neighbors | 7 Nov 2021 | The FBI searched the home of Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe on Nov. 6, about a day after the agency had executed a search warrant at homes belonging to Veritas associates. In a statement to The Epoch Times about whether O’Keefe’s home was searched, an FBI spokesperson confirmed “a court-authorized law enforcement action” was carried out “in furtherance of an ongoing investigation.” Representatives for Project Veritas didn’t immediately respond to a request by The Epoch Times for comment. O’Keefe hasn’t made any public statements on whether his home was searched and instead posted a video of himself reading a chapter from George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984.

French health authority advises against Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for under 30s | 9 Nov 2021 | France’s public health authority has recommended people under 30 be given Pfizer’s Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine when available instead of Moderna Inc’s Spikevax jab, which carried comparatively higher risks of heart-related problems. The Haute Autorite de Sante (HAS), which does not have legal power to ban or licence drugs but acts as an advisor to the French health sector, cited “very rare” [actually, frequent] risks linked to Myocarditis, a heart disease, that had shown up in recent data on the Moderna vaccine and in a French study published on Monday. The decision in Paris came after regulators in several other countries, including Canada, Finland and Sweden, had also taken a more defensive stance on Spikevax over heart-related safety concerns affecting younger people.

Pfizer seeks for approval for COVID booster for all adults | 9 Nov 2021 | Medical giant Pfizer asked federal regulators on Tuesday to OK COVID vaccine booster shots for all adults — not just people in “high-risk” categories. Getting an extra dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has already been an option for people older than 65, those with underlying health conditions and workers whose jobs mean they have a higher chance of exposure to the virus. Emergency approval was given for those categories in September, but a Food and Drug Administration panel rejected a more widespread approval as questions lingered over whether healthy young people needed the additional dose…

U.S. judge rules that United’s employee vaccine mandate can continue | 8 Nov 2021 | A federal judge in Texas on Monday ruled that United Airlines’ employee vaccine policy can proceed. The Chicago-based airline has one of the strictest employee vaccine policies in the country. In September, it said that staff who receive medical or religious exemptions would be placed on unpaid leave. Six employees filed suit to block the policy in September. United said Monday that the roughly 2,000 employees who were granted religious or medical exemptions to its policy could apply for non-customer facing roles and that those who do not apply will be put on leave.

Sen. Cruz Introduces Bill Prohibiting Vaccine Mandate for Minors | 6 Nov 2021 | U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, introduced legislation that would prohibit the federal government and any entity at the federal, state, and local level that receives federal funding–including school districts–from requiring COVID-19 vaccines for minors. “Parents should have the right to decide what is best for their children in consultation with their family doctor,” he said. “My view on the COVID-19 vaccine has remained clear: no mandates of any kind.” The bill would prohibit the federal government and any recipient of federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services and/or the CDC at the state, local, tribal, or territorial level from requiring any individual aged 18 or younger to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

Commonwealth Court throws out governor’s school mask mandate; Wolf appeals –The judges have thrown out an order by Pennsylvania’s acting health secretary that requires masks inside public schools | 10 Nov 2021 | Commonwealth Court on Monday threw out an order that required individuals to wear masks inside public and private schools, saying that state health officials lacked the authority to implement such a rule. But the state Department of Health quickly appealed the ruling, stopping any immediate action. The court sided 4-1 with the ranking Republican in the state Senate and others who sued to challenge the masking order that took effect in early September.

Lowell parents threatened with arrest, child custody loss during mask dispute –“Option C: you leave, but leave your child here, we contact DCF, possibly placing her in state custody for abandonment.” | 8 Nov 2021 | (Lowell, VT) Two Lowell Graded School parents demanding their second-grade daughter be taught in the classroom without a mask were warned by a state trooper Thursday, Nov. 4 to take her home or risk arrest for trespass or loss of custody of their child. The live Facebook video was recorded by the girl’s father, Andre “Mike” Desautels. In March, a Vermont judge sided with Vermont Attorney General TJ Donovan and ordered Desautels to require his employees to wear masks. As the video opens, Desautels explains he and wife Amy have a note from a doctor exempting his daughter from wearing a mask. However, the parents have been told that a doctor’s note isn’t enough and that the school needs to see a formal medical diagnosis in order to develop a 504 plan.

Hundreds of Thousands to Go on Four-Day Nationwide Strike Over Vaccine Mandates – Organizer | 7 Nov 2021 | A nationwide strike against vaccine mandates will take place from Nov. 8 to Nov. 11, according to the main organizer for the walkout, Leigh Dundas, a human rights attorney and public speaker. The event will kick off in Los Angeles on Monday. The locations of the marches have not yet been disclosed. The walkouts involve people from various industries such as trucking and telecom. Air and rail transport workers are not federally allowed to go on strike due to a law passed in 1926 named the Railway Labor Act, but some plan to protest anonymously.

Feds Deliberately Trying to Conceal Nasal Spray Proven Effective Against COVID-19 – Manufacturer –The spray’s main ingredients are saline, grapefruit seed extract, and xylitol, a plant-derived sweetener commonly used in oral care products. | 8 Nov 2021 | The leading U.S. manufacturer of xylitol-based products says the federal government is deliberately trying to conceal a nasal spray it developed that it says has been scientifically proven to be effective in treating and preventing COVID-19. The U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit in federal court against Utah-based company Xlear on Oct. 28, saying it has deceptively advertised its nasal spray as a treatment and preventative of COVID-19. The lawsuit asks a federal court to permanently ban the company from promoting the nasal spray as a treatment for COVID-19 and also asks that monetary penalties be levied against it. The DOJ filed the complaint on behalf of the Federal Trade Commission, which alleges the company has violated the Federal Trade Commission Act and the Consumer Protection Act by making false claims about the benefits.

Taxpayers to cover cost of Afghan evacuees’ immigration applications | 8 Nov 2021 | Homeland Security announced Monday that it will waive the usual immigration fees for Afghan evacuees who’ve been paroled into the country since the start of the airlift operation, leaving U.S. taxpayers to pick up the tab for their costs. The department said not having to worry about the fees will allow the Afghans to settle into their new lives more quickly. They’ll also get “streamlined” processing to apply for work permits and asylum, which would give them permanent status. About 70,000 Afghans already have been brought to the U.S., most of them through Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s “parole” authority.

Rittenhouse judge tears into prosecution with aggressive tongue-lashing over questioning –‘Don’t get brazen with me,’ the judge in Rittenhouse’s trial told the prosecutor | 10 Nov 2021 | The judge presiding over Kyle Rittenhouse’s trial scolded the prosecutor during a fiery exchange on Wednesday during cross-examination. “Don’t get brazen with me,” Judge Bruce Schroeder told prosecutor Thomas Binger in the courtroom. The exchange came after Binger asked Rittenhouse a series of questions regarding whether he knows that deadly force cannot be used to protect property. The judge soon asked the jury to exit the courtroom. Schroeder accused Binger of improperly trying to introduce testimony that he had earlier said he was not inclined to include. Rittenhouse attorney Mark Richards also suggested Binger might be attempting to provoke a mistrial. “I was astonished when you began your examination by commenting on the defendant’s post-arrest silence. That’s basic law. It’s been basic law in this country for 40 years. 50 years. I have no idea why you would do something like that,” Schroeder told Binger.

Hackers have targeted sensitive data at multiple US defense contractors, says cybersecurity research firm | 7 Nov 2021 | Suspected foreign hackers have breached nine organizations in the defense, energy, health care, technology and education sectors — and at least one of those organizations is in the US, according to findings that security firm Palo Alto Networks shared exclusively with CNN. With the help of the National Security Agency, cybersecurity researchers are exposing an ongoing effort by these unidentified hackers to steal key data from US defense contractors and other sensitive targets. Officials from the NSA and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are tracking the threat.

Biden admin considering shutting down another pipeline, drawing criticism and dire warnings as winter nears | 7 Nov 2021 | The Biden administration is reportedly weighing the potential market consequences of shutting down an oil pipeline in Michigan, drawing criticism from opponents. Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Biden’s energy secretary, predicted Sunday that heating prices will rise this winter regardless of the Biden administration’s decision on the pipeline. “Yeah, this is going to happen. It will be more expensive this year than last year,” Granholm told CNN. The administration has yet to decide on what to do with Line 5 and officials were gathering information only to present a clear picture of the situation, according to sources who spoke to Politico.
