Appears Weinberger stepped down and left a big pile of fiscal dung for Mulvaney-Stanak. Her thoughts: “doubling the hotel portion of the gross receipts tax from two percent to four percent and using the leftover federal ARPA funds.”
My assumption is the hotel receipts include billing the State for sheltering new arrivals and qualifying homeless? Pass through double dipping city and State taxpayer money?
ARPA funds? “The State of Vermont will receive more than $2.7 billion in ARPA funds for projects related to the pandemic. More than half of these dollars are directly appropriated to federal agencies, individuals, local governments, education institutions, and others, leaving approximately $1 billion for the State to deploy between now and December 31, 2024. Vermont’s Legislature and Governor Phil Scott have agreed to invest the ARPA monies in broadband infrastructure, clean water, climate action, housing, and economic development related to pandemic impacts. The state budget for fiscal year 2022, which started on July 1, 2021 and ends June 30, 2022, allocates nearly $640 million of the ARPA funds to programs and initiatives in these six areas – including $100 million for clean water and $65 million for climate action.”
The homeowners and business owners/operators…people with actual skin in the game are now a minority in Burlington. The moonbats are in charge over a city where a majority of the population constitute deadbeats, subsidized renters, junkies, vagrants and transient students with no long term commitment to the city. They voted for the mayor they figured would promise them the most free stuff coming at the expense of productive citizens. This is not a socially or economically sustainable situation. Does anyone remember the economic mess created by the last Progressive Mayor…Bob Kiss? Get ready for a repeat performance by the female version. Burlington Progressives live in a world of economic and social fantasy and are not rooted in the realities of human behavior or guided by the concept of personal responsibility.
The best this new mayor can hope for is a new pandemic and associated ARPA cornucopia of freshly-printed currency. Up against stark economic realities and a growing percentage of unproductive citizens in Burlington, it will be interesting to see if she can prevent the same Progressive fiscal meltdown and dismal bond ratings that the last Progressive mayor brought on through mismanagement of Burlington Telecom.
Burlington used to be such a nice place, where you would not hesitate bring your 12 year-old shoe shopping and where a Jewish person could wear a yarmulke or Star of David around their neck without fear of being assaulted. No longer…what a shame.

Agreed. As noted in the disbursement of $1 million in 2023, notice the duplication of efforts of these “non-profits” per their mission statements. It would stand to reason if there was a concerted effort to merge and utilize “limited” resources more efficiently, people might actually get beneficial help – the kind that helps them not need help long term. Yet, they remain stand alone hogs at the trough and a grifter’s paradise – sucking up resources for adminstration costs to serve themselves, not the communities. I pointed this out in the early 2000’s regarding services for the elderly. No one will relinquesh their territorial grifting to help those they claim to serve.
The business model is to keep a sector of the population disabled, poor, and addicted. Vermont is a small State and they built an industry around poverty and welfare. The current economic climate guarantees more clients incoming.

Well, the cesspool known as Burlington, well it appears the last Mayor’s administration made a small error in its calculation of ” $4M ” Oh my.
Now Burlington’s new Mayor who is a ” community organizer ” by trade, Let’s see how she handles this financial boondoggle, I assume Burlington residents will be seeing a new tax, as nothing will be cut to stay with the current budget, just saying, but time will tell.

Get ready tax paying residents and businesses in Burlington. That goes for you too parents and visitors to Burlington. These Progressive socialists that rule Burlington are going to (figuratively) turn you upside down and shake every last nickel out of you. I would avoid Burlington at all costs (not just for the general Dystopia that exists there but for you safety)

Okay – so plugging budget holes with misappropriating federal pork (aka taxpayer money – triple dipping) – then what? Operation Tincup. Apparantly, the VLCT is tracking this money for the Treasury? Burlington received $1 Million of it last year. Where did go? Follow the money. Here’s their report for $1 Million 2023: https://go.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/files/CPBSTS741132/$file/BOF%20Communication_ARPA%20Non-Profit%20Grants_27FEB23_Awardees.pdf
