WILLISTON — A Connecticut woman is facing multiple charges after police said she was intoxicated when she drove the wrong way on Interstate 89 in Williston and crashed into a state police cruiser that was trying to get her to stop safely early Sunday, officials said.
Taylor Chagnot, 29, of Windham, Conn. is facing charges of driving while intoxicated, gross negligent operation, attempting to elude and reckless endangerment, state police said.
Chagnot was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured when she crashed her 2020 Jeep Gladiator, VSP Patrol Sgt. Todd Stackhouse said. Her vehicle was demolished, he said.
State Trooper Shawn Cavic, 32, of Williston sustained minor injuries when his 2025 Ford Explorer was demolished in the crash, Stackhouse said. Cavic was wearing a seatbelt.
Chagnot’s passenger, Allison Roberts, 31, of Underhill, was taken to UVM Medical Center with minor injuries, police said. She was not using her seatbelt, police said.
It was 10 years ago last Thursday that an impaired wrong-way driver killed five teen-agers in a horrific head-on crash on I-89 in Williston also about midnight.
Vermont State Police said they were initially notified of a wrong way driver about 12 a.m. Sunday travelling southbound on I-89 in the northbound lane near exit 14 in the city of South Burlington.
Troopers located the vehicle in question as it continued southbound in the northbound lane of travel toward the area of exit 12, Stackhouse said.
Despite efforts to get the vehicle to safely come to a stop, it crashed into a state police cruiser, Stackhouse reported. Following the crash, troopers determined the driver, Chagnot, displayed indicators of impairment, he said.
After a roadside investigation, Chagnot was placed under arrest and transported to the State Police barracks in Williston for processing. She ultimately was jailed at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington for lack of $1,000 bail.
The weather was clear and the road was dry
Williston Police and Fire Departments assisted at the scene.

Just to note, the incident cited from 10 years ago was an intentional, malicious act by a mentally deranged person, who then stole a police cruiser at the scene and fled. This looks like just another run-of-the-mill drunken, white, affluent idiot with a healthy disrespect for the law, probably brought on by leftist indoctrination and too much Titos.
