Vermont Republican Lieutenant Governor bashes Trump administration

By Paul Bean

Republican Lt. Governor John Rodgers condemned the Trump Administration at the Montpelier “Hands Off” rally on Saturday outside the State House April 5.

“As a Republican who supports women’s rights, LBGTQ community, local farmers and loggers, our manufacturers and other great Vermont businesses, the free press, United States Constitution and the rule of law, I am appalled with what the Trump administration is doing to our state and our country,” said John Rodgers to the crowd of around one thousand protesters gathered in Montpelier.

Rodgers served in the legislature for 16 years as both a State Representative and a State Senator hailing from the Northeast Kingdom. Rodgers has been regarded as a centrist Democrat who was willing and able to work with Republicans especially for issues surrounding gun rights and affordability. In 2024, Rogers actually made the jump to the Republican Party and ran for Lt Governor. “As I understand it, I am the only Republican across the entire country with the courage to stand up, and I am calling on all Republicans to stand up,” said Rodgers toward the end of his speech.

“President Trump and his administration violate the laws and the constitution on a regular basis. This is unacceptable.” Rodgers made the case throughout his speech that the direction of the Republican Party is misguided under Trump and that they should return to their roots as a party that stood against slavery.

“In 1859 Abraham Lincoln would articulate the ideology of the Republican Party, defining it as the party of ordinary Americans, standing together against the oligarchs of slavery,” said Rodgers. “They have forgotten their founding fathers and they need to return to Lincoln Republicans.”

Rodgers criticized not only President Trump, but the entire Republican caucus… except former Congresswoman Liz Cheney of Arizona.

“I am embarrassed by the lack of courage shown by the Republicans in Congress. I may not agree with Liz Cheney on everything, but she has more courage than all of the Congressional Republicans put together! It is time for the Republicans in Congress to stand up for their constituents, instead of following the will of their President.”

The following is the remainder of Rodger’s Speech:

“To the people of Quebec and the people of all of Canada, I say Vermonters value our families, friends, neighbors, and allies in Canada and do not support the trade policies of the Trump administration or the attack on their sovereignty. The people of Canada and Greenland don’t want to be a part of the United States because the first thing they would have to give up is high quality universal health care.

Our federally qualified health care centers provide healthcare to tens of thousands of Vermonters, and they operate on razor thin margins. Any cuts to Medicaid could put these essential health care centers out of business.

The people who use federally qualified health centers would be left to neglect their health care or receive their health care at emergency rooms which will add further pressure to our hospitals and the over cost of healthcare in Vermont. I fear that this could lead to the collapse of our health care system as we know it. I would be fine with getting rid of Medicaid as soon as Congress and the administration implement Medicare for all or some kind of universal health care coverage.

Republicans like Ronald Reagan spoke out against tariffs and trade wars because he knew that they were detrimental to Americans. As Treasurer Pieciak has pointed out, these tariffs will lead to a massive cost increase to Vermonters, who cannot afford to waste another $3,800 a year for nothing.

I’ve been hearing from people in the forest products industry who have already been significantly impacted as Canada has shut off the markets for low grade lumber, and China and Vietnam have shut off the markets for hardwood. They literally have valuable logs sitting on the yards rotting because of Trump’s ridiculous tariffs.

Farmers will be paying more for sawdust if they can’t get it out of Canada, and those who truck it will likely lose business. Farmers in the Midwest who provide food for the world will go out of business because of the Trump tariffs and it could lead to food shortages around the world.

Many Vermont manufacturers and companies will lose massive amounts of money and sales because of tariffs. American brewers and distilleries are already seeing their orders cut. That includes one great distillery right here in Vermont at Caledonia Spirits. I am proud of the Vermont Supreme Court’s Chief Justice Paul Reiber, the Vermont Bar Association Board of Managers, Treasurer Mike Pieciak, and Attorney General Charity Clark for affirming their support for the rule of law.

At the same time, President Trump and his administration violate the laws and the Constitution on a regular basis. This is unacceptable. It is also unacceptable that big law firms are caving in to his will.

These spineless law firms are another prime example of the lack of courage which has infected so many who should be standing up for the rights of Americans and the Constitution.

In the words of the late, great, President Jimmy Carter, Tolstoy did not write War and Peace about Napoleon, or the Czar of Russia, or even the generals except on rare occasions.

He wrote it about the students, and the housewives, and the barbers, and the farmers, and the privates in the army… and the point of the book is that the course of human events, even the greatest historical events, are not determined by the leaders of a nation or state like presidents or governors or senators, they are controlled by the combined wisdom and courage and commitment and discernment and unselfishness and compassion and love and idealism of the common ordinary people like us here today.

If that was true in the case of Russia for, they had a Czar or France where they had an emperor, how much more true is it of our own case for the Constitution charges us with a direct responsibility for determining what our government is and ought to be. As I understand it, I am the only Republican across the entire country with the courage to stand up, and I am calling on all republicans to stand up.

I would like to give a quick shoutout to Representative Lipsky and Representative Donahue who are two independents here in Vermont who are also out here.

This cannot be a partisan issue; we have to all stand together. Thank you.”

    • Guess Rodger’s should skip getting take out, too funny. Where else but VDC?

Any takers on what his fortune cookie says?

    • Probably “a fool and their money are soon parted” referring to people that follow the ideas of a thrice bankrupted casino magnate.

    • Well that’s pretty funny. But do you have a real answer? We should allow everyone to tariff us with abandon? See this is why the left can’t meme, it’s kinda funny, but there isn’t enough truth to be really funny. Perhaps we should transfer all our jobs overseas because it would be cheaper? You can do better…we can do much better in Vermont, surely.

Meanwhile people burn Teslas and the insurance companies pay Elon to build more Teslas, now that meme was funny. Real memes of people going to jail for writing hate symbols Ipoh cars, now that is humorous to watch. Keep trying…

    • Neil, I’m not a leftist, I’m a proud Never Trumper. My uncle ran the Republican party back when we actually won things in this state, don’t you ever come at me because you didn’t a joke you asked for. People here that belong to a cult and your reaction is what’s really a joke. I wrote my college thesis on NAFTA and took economics at an Ivy if you ever want to explain to me how our current trade policy is going to help us. Please make sure to use small words so I can comprehend your economic theories.

    • Chris, You are a leftist. The first step to recovery is admitting you have the problem…

    • And Carson, you’re in a cult, so don’t worry about me. I’ll absorb the tariffs because I can afford to and you guys will just move the goalposts. Want to take a bet on how much the stock market drops tomorrow? Can you afford to?

    • Chris you’ll find people who support Trump call him out regularly, they boo him at his own campaign rallies, thankfully he’s not talking about warp speed and what a great job that was. People who can say nothing good about him are the ones in the cult.

College is not all it’s cracked up to be, went myself. If you believe in the theory of evolution, how does that work with homosexuality? How does all the medical schools and scientific research now position on COVID Vax?
How can a person accept gender fluid, but be anti detransitioning? How can a product of conception in on person be a baby and another person not? How can the bright college students be duped into Astro turf protests on a regular basis. How much did NAFTA increase the quality of life in America, use as many big words as you like, I can use a dictionary if I have too. How has living in Vermont improved because of never Trumpers…

    • “People who can say nothing good about him are the ones in the cult.” Please show me where I said that. I will always be grateful he got rid of the Bushes and Clintons.

“College is not all it’s cracked up to be, went myself.” You sure?

“If you believe in the theory of evolution, how does that work with homosexuality?”
There is a well-understood correlation between fraternal birth order and homosexuality. From an evolutionary standpoint, the youngest being gay kept weaker genes out of the gene pool. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2024/04/15/1243861703/sexuality-birth-order-gay-siblings

“How does all the medical schools and scientific research now position on COVID Vax?” Is this supposed to be a thought? The scientists like the COVID vaccine, the same one your Orange Daddy brags about when he’s around smart people and tells you not to take it around dumb people.

“How can the bright college students be duped into Astro turf protests on a regular basis?” You mean kids being duped by professional adults? Give me an example of this astroturfing that is more likely a group of people you don’t agree with.

“How much did NAFTA increase the quality of life in America” Quite a bit actually. It raised our GDP, portion of the world’s wealth, created millions of jobs and improved quality of life for millions of people. BTW, NAFTA was replaced during Trump’s first term so any problem you have with the trade deal, its his deal.

“How has living in Vermont improved because of never Trumpers…”
You mean under Phil Scott, the best governor in the country?

We may have both gone to college, but we’re not the same. Let me know if you need me to educate you any more. Maybe you can teach me about tariffs…

  1. Roger’s can put a R after his name, but he still has a blue glow. He talks about Lincoln, and the Republicans as being an anti-slave party. Well . . . . Yes they were, but who are the slaves in America in 2025. Financially most of American citizens thanks to the last 50 years of politicians (Presidents, Senators, Representatives) who slowly dismantled the U.S., Let businesses move overseas, allowed for years high tariff’s from other countries while the U.S. just kept ok paying. Unequal trade. How many American cars do you see in Japan ? How about S. Korea ? How about Germany ? Yet on any given day no matter where you go the roads are full of Toyota’s, Honda’s, Kia’s, Hyundai’s, Mercedes’s, BMW’s, VW’s, etc. How many refrigerators, stove, TV’s are actually made in the U.S. ? How about Pharmacudical’s ? Most are made in China or India. The trade and tariffs have been unbalanced for decades in the USA. THE ART OF THE DEAL, and the Master of it can’t fix things by continuing down the same path. Our GDP can’t support it for much longer, as our our deficit is growing beyond our ability to pay it back & the interest. We need a balance to trade / and tariff’s. This balance will bring back businesses to America.

  2. DemocRAT/ Republican Lt. Governor John Rodgers condemned the ” Trump Administration ” at the Montpelier “Hands Off” rally……… what a clown !!

    “As a so-called ” Republican ” that’s laughable, who supports women’s rights,
” LBGTQ ” community, local farmers and loggers, whoa, did he forget anyone else, just the retirees, and middle class workers who pay the way for his BS rhetoritic , yeah he’s a real people person, he’s a joke, just wait until he flops back to his real political party……………….. suckers.

    • I thought he might be better than Zuckerman and I voted for him. That will be the last time he gets my vote. He could have stayed away from the loonies but he’s taken a page from the Governor. All he has to do is show the loonies that he’s one of them when he runs for governor. Phil Scott has done the same thing but at least he bowed out of this show of ignorance. My father once said that you can take a savage out of the jungle gut you can’t take the jungle out of a savage. I guess he was talking about politicians too. John Rogers just blew it. Maybe he forgot that it was the democrats that killed Abraham Lincoln.

  3. This guy needs to stand firm with Cheney, Kinzinger and all the other RINOs

  4. You’re no Republican. You are a democrat infiltrator poser. Just as are the other phony “Republicans” in the US Senate who thwart all the party’s attempts to accomplish driving out the self-serving bureaucrats who lord over those who are actually in charge: the self-governing people, your bosses. Like ME.

Sorry Paul Dame clone, but real Republicans know full well that males cannot become females nor do they belong on their teams or in the bathrooms. And real Republicans (and real farmers) don’t grow marijuana for commercialized, “recreational” use….which is all fun and games to stoners such as you and your friends until people wind up not just hurt, but DEAD, as has happened thanks to that drug and its associated DUI’s in VT and across the nation, amongst other manner of death brought upon individuals and families via addiction. The only oligarchs herein were Biden and his crew of Communists and the majority of Americans in turn, thereafter, voted for Trump. You all loved the past four years while the majority lived as though in a nearly endless hell? Payback is a beach, huh?

If you fear any stockmarket woes due to Trump’s endeavors to make tariffs an EQUITABLE trade scenario, try investment instead in Hunter Biden’s art instead. I’m sure it is a great investment! Buy! Buy! Buy!

So ” Nazi” and “Russia, Russia, Russia” didn’t work….who was the Rhodes Scholar who thought “oligarchy” would? Oh that’s right….it is Soros – an ACTUAL NAZI! Can’t make this democrat/RINO stuff up.

Nor can you fool all of the people all of the time.

    • Perfection Kathleen. I feel your pain and anger as well! They are trying to destroy our Country and Our State!

  5. As the saying goes- :A Leopard does not change it’s spots”.

  6. Spoken like a true Demorat!! Go back to your party and stop posing!!

  7. I used to think this fellow Rogers was pretty cool……..He’s lost whatever cool he once had…..IF he had it.. Long ago I was myself a left/Lib Democrat. I’ve matured….finally.

  8. The fact that both Windsock Scott and Janice-Faced Rodgers have an issue with everything the Trump administration is trying to do to upright the country explains why the State of Vermont is a screwed up as it is. Sooner than later, we’ll let them tax us into extinction. Neither one of these guys have any credibility.

  9. Never trusted him from the moment he weighed in with his double-speak about guns. He betrayed his true colors instantly.

And now that he has duped many and achieved his goal of election to office, he no longer has to prevaricate; he can plainly spout his true intentions with no fear of opposition.

“Women’s rights” when coming out of the mouth of a RINO, Democrat, or Progressive = code talk for “pro-abortion.”

His support for certain “rights” mean he does NOT support:
    -Preborn womens’ right to life
-Parents’ rights to decide that it’s not in their childrens’ best interests to have their genitals and/or breasts amputated
-Their daughters’ rights to not have males in their locker rooms and on their sports teams
    -Your Second Amendment rights

Sheep costume stripped off. More of our rights to follow.

    • Perfect! These radicals alter the names and definitions of long-retained words in order to achieve their sociopathic, often genocidal narrative. “Women’s Rights” are of course bestowed by God to all His human creation, yet to them acknowledging women’s intrinsic human rights somehow translates to killing unborn babies. “Health Care” means caring for health (surprised, huh?) but is somehow itself also synonymous with medically murdering those who are ill or otherwise compromised and calling it suicide. Supporting LGBTQPLUS means discriminating against and endangering the lives of these women you purport to respect, and defying FEDERAL LAW to have the chance to do so —- and no, numbskulls – VT law can NEVER supercede federal law and if you truly don’t yet comprehend the differences between males and females, just what the duck are you doing serving the public in this capacity anyway???? Try sharpening some of them there highly impressive biology skills you possess instead.

What a true clown show. Pathetic. Vermont is a laughing stock because of these nimrods.

  10. John put a knife in the back of every republican who voted for him…
Instead of dealing with the problems of Vermont like lack of jobs.. industry.. increase of drug use.. bad roads.. bridges.. people leaving the state because its un-affordable.. the homeless… he bashes Trump.. after living thru the past 4 years of the fake president biden who John voted for and how the demorats pretty much destroyed America he is whining about the tariff’s why doesn’t John ask the other Countries why they are putting tariff’s on American products going into their Country…

  11. Let me explain this. Rodgers will be running for real gov in the next election and knows he has to be admired as a Trump-hater by the looney majority to get elected in Vermont.

I love the part about Vermonters can’t afford another $3,800 for nothing. Yet they keep electing dimwits who raise their taxes every year for nothing. Can’t protect people from themselves, Light Guv.

Yup. That was a campaign speech by Rodgers, folks.

  12. Its easy for Rogers to attack Trump and his administration for violating the Constitution if you give no examples. The democrats in this state have clearly violated the U.S. And Vermont constitutions with red flag laws which violate the fourth amendment and all other gun control which violate Vermont’s article 16 and the second amendment. Likewise article one of Vermont’s constitution is violated by the legislature yearly with the must glaring example being the environment of abortion into the vt constitution.
John Rogers has shown his true colors by revealing those he admires and where he stands. Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger? Why not add Shiff, Pelosi , Raskin, and Biden. Obviously he is as much of a Republican as the former. Wether tariffs work in the long run , remains to be seen, but we already have proof that democrats and rings know how to ruin the state of vermont. Driving business and young people out by overtaxation. Attacking women and your girls by subjecting them to men who can’t succeed in male sports or perverse enough to want to violate their privacy i in locker rooms and bathrooms. Vermont is a mess! Politicians(lawmakers is a foul word) need to start each session by reading the Vermont and US constitutions, and then be held accountable when they violate their oaths. Read and re-read section 12 of the Vermont constitution and you will find that most in the state house violate their oath on a regular basis. I would suggest that John Rogers and the rest of those who claim to be public servants , and want to appear holier than thou, take a good look at the destruction they have brought to this state. The enemy , the problem is looking at you in the mirror!

  13. Most of the problems Rogers mentioned existed long before Trump was elected. Vermont’s health care system is in severe crisis. This is not Trump’s fault. Most of Vermont’s sawmills are already out of business. This is not Trump’s fault. Logging truckers cannot afford to register their trucks and have discontinued trucking. This is not Trump’s fault. Logs don’t rot in two months time. I heard John Rogers on the Morning Drive and was enjoying the show until he said the only person with courage was Bernie Sanders. Rogers thinks Bernie is the answer to our health care problems. It is my understanding that rural clinics get more money for medicaid patients. If rural clinics close it will not cause the collapse of our health care system . It is already collapsing. This is not Trump’s fault. Vermont has lots of problems but Trump did not cause them.

  14. “high quality universal health care”: yeah, if you live long enough to actually get the health care, and they don’t euthanize you first. “valuable logs sitting on the yards rotting”: So the tariffs have been in effect for one week and the logs are already rotting? “sawdust if they can’t get it out of Canada”: sound like a perfect solution for all those rotting logs. “President Trump and his administration violate the laws and the Constitution on a regular basis”: how about an example of this. You can’t because he hasn’t. Don’t expect my vote for any office you may be running for in the future.

  15. There is no hero in the cave monkey society. The fiat phony money rules the world and most people are too busy working and going broke. John Rogers is the current clown sitting on the chair at the fair tormenting you to throw a ball at him and to put him under water. Most people will get more upset when they see their retirement fund destroyed.

  16. What a disappointment…..
“This cannot be a partisan issue; we have to all stand together. Thank you.” lol

“As I understand it, I am the only Republican across the entire country with the courage to stand up, and I am calling on all republicans to stand up.” lol

To attack Trump is one thing, but to exalt Liz Cheney, Charity Clark, Mike Pieciak, and Jimmy Carter….. Disgraceful pandering. Very sad.

  17. Wow, you can’t make this Sh$ft up! Looks like someone is looking for votes in the next round. No wonder folks have given up on the Republican Party in Vermont.

  18. I knew he was a democrat Trump hater. I could not vote for either candidate, I did a write in. I also suspect that the votes are tampered with, or Vermonters are total fools, to keep electing democrats while the state deteriorates.

  19. Rogers is really smart. He even knows that Liz Cheney is from Arizona. She is actually from Wyoming. I hope he gets the same treatment she got, defeated by 30% in her primary. Rogers is a Phil Scott clone and proud member of the Vermont Uniparty

  20. Excuse me, i have to put another stick of wood in my wood stove, thanks to the work of a logger and the wood lot owner. Try not to lump all people together with a guilt association like John Rogers did.

  21. Vermont elections are too often the lesser of two evils. We must do a better job of recruiting electable, trustworthy candidates.

  22. John Rogers has been a democrat as long as I’ve known him, he used to do masonry and clean chimneys, he is and always will be a democrat! Sad that so many republicans voted for him!

  23. “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.”
    Eleanor Roosevelt

  24. I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! RINO! But you all said he was the savior of the GOP

    • Not quite so, the choice was Rogers or Zuckerman. I gave Rogers the vote, I was wrong but thought removing Zuckerman was important enough to choose Rogers. I’m now wondering when will he fill his desk drawer with feminine products to support the ladies in the people’s house. What a disappointment this is, in a continuing series of disappointments of living in Vermont. It seems the nightmare will continue. Can you hear the silence coming from the so-called republican party?

  25. Every president has wielded the power to withhold federal funds as leverage for compliance with critical policies.

Is Vermont truly prepared to navigate the financial fallout of such a actions and decision?

If there’s fallout, where is the plan to find alternate funding or cut costs?

    • They won’t look for alternatives! They’ll just tax the crap out of us some more! Hopefully, the real Republicans we elected will fight this tooth and nail! They have to stand up for us now!

    • Our wise “leaders” will do as they always do. Raise taxes. Critical institutions in Vermont have been strained beyond survival for some time. The health care, education and court systems are toast. Rogers would be doing everyone in Vermont if he used his pulpit to educate the public about how to soften the impact of the failure of these systems versus pandering to the lunatics in the left wing mob.

  26. Backwards and Upside down, is all I can say. Mr. Rodgers is purely a politician, capitalizing on the Trump hatred. He talks about Slavery but encourages undocumented people to come here and work as slaves with no rights. And what of the debt slavery? $36 Trillion in debt is not a joke. He bashes the best efforts of the Trump administration to get us out of slavery and provides no rational plan on how to fix the enormous spending and trade deficits. He claims constitutional and legal violations with no specific examples.

The theme of the event, “Hands Off”, was in protest of what? Protesting the Trump administration’s efforts to eliminate fraud, waste, misspending, and corruption? The Mr. Rodgers just said that he is in favor of the corruption we all see in big government. He is admitting he himself is corrupt by supporting this backwards protest.

It is not the Republican Party that needs to check itself, Mr. Rodgers. At one time, Democrats suggested all of the things being done in Washington. None had the courage to get the job done.

John Rodgers is turning out to be exactly the sort of grease ball politician that has gotten Vermont (and the USA) into such deep trouble. Spreading misinformation, division, and ignorance while providing no ideas or direction forward to solve the real problems we are facing.

  27. Forty five comments shows John rogers is still sitting on the fairgrounds stool tormenting all of you. Maybe next time someone with a good pitching arm will give him a bath.

  28. I am glad the mask is off. I am surprised how many were fooled by a seasoned politician seeking a higher seat. He changed the letter in front his name, not his stripes. They are all liars, they are all thieves, they are all installed belligerent occupiers. They don’t care about Vermont or people – only their bank balances.

  29. I did not vote for him. I knew he was another Progressive aka Communist in sheep’s clothing. As is Scott. They all play two sides against the middle and the stoopid people of VT vote for this crap. Like the Bean Man says, “You get what you pay for”.

    • Aw, shucks….thanks, James. I just visit somewhat occasionally now though…….which is great news for trappers and fans of the current Fish & Wildlife organization in VT, as I’m still forever and always an avid advocate of animal rights – wild & domestic. Interestingly, many conservatives are, with the most renowned being Tucker Carlsen. Don’t think Tucker would ever receive the vitriol I did here for advocating for animals, but then again, he is a man and a few specific male conservatives on this site appear to tolerate, respect, and even prefer the opines of male posters over females. Conflictive in terms of their supposed political preference? Who knows? Who cares? Anyway, keep up your good work and vocal opposition to the crazy left!

      Trump rocks. Animals rock.

  30. Phil Scott was smart enough to stay away from the Soros-funded astroturf Indivisible protest, Rodgers was not. First, he likely has lost 50% of the GOP vote for 2026 and second, he has not helped the state of VT in any future negotiation with the Feds regarding federal $$$ to our state for a variety of areas: education, transporation, and Medicaid. For a state that is tapped out on taxes, this was not a smart move for him or for us as a state: 0% leadership, 100% ego.

    • Wendy, why should we have to negotiate with the Feds for money already allocated to us? When you say negotiate, do you really mean assuage a senile 78-years old’s ego?

    • Chris,
Vermont politicians need to negotiate because “elections have consequences”.
At least that’s what Democrats say when they win elections.

When Biden dismantled every border strengthening policy of the Trump 1 admin they canceled spending allocated by Congress. Trump is free to do the same thing.

  31. When I look in the mirror to shave, I don’t have to be ashamed I got fooled and voted for this Communist calling himself a Republican. I have a clear conscience I wrote in Greg Thayer.

And the world’s few… evil people have little power without the help of the world’s many stupid people. As a result, stupidly is a far greater threat than evil – Gurwinder Bhogal

“That’s the real threat to Democracy, stupid people. – Donald Trump

  32. Yes, I did endorse Rodgers over Zuckerman. I am extremely disappointed in Rodgers’ appearance at Hands Off as I expressed. Zuckerman, who wants very much to be relevant again, smells blood in the electoral waters I am sure.

  33. After reading this diatribe out of the mouth of a so called Republican Lt. Gov. for the state of Vermont, I had to check the date to assure myself that it wasn’t April 1st, and just an April Fool’s joke. Talk about an absolute showing of his true colors, which will most likely have him running back to the Socialist, Marxist, Liberals that have infested our state, and where he came from. Disgusting!
Mr. Rodgers you can fool me once, but never twice.

  34. Rogers had so much potential…but he crawled into the propaganda brainwashed radical nest…how does he now deal with such disrespect…read the tea leaves and go with the truth and reality of the conservative right…it’s up to you, Rogers, are you truly blue or red? You are certainly suspect at this point.

  35. John Rodgers Is No Republican!
Let’s cut through the nonsense: John Rogers is no Republican. He’s a Democrat in disguise, lobbing stones at the very people he claims to represent. After years as a self-proclaimed centrist Democrat, he slapped an “R” next to his name out of political convenience. And now, he’s got the gall to stand on a left-wing protest stage and lecture real Republicans about courage?

He called himself “the only Republican with courage.” Really?
Real courage is standing with people when it’s not easy — not when the cameras are rolling, and the applause is guaranteed. It’s fighting for our freedoms, our faith, our families, and our Constitution — not chasing headlines from the radical left.

Rodgers claims to speak for “ordinary Americans.” Which ones?
Because he sure wasn’t standing with farmers, loggers, truckers, veterans, or working families — the very people who finally have a voice under President Trump. Instead, he stood in Montpelier — at a left-wing protest, bashing Trump, bashing Republicans, and pretending it was courage.

Let’s be honest: the protest he joined wasn’t about principle. It was a political stunt — designed to blame America, attack conservatives, and prop up the same failed policies that have hollowed out our towns and gutted our middle class.

    So here’s the question:
What are you really protesting, Mr. Rodgers?
The border crisis your party created?
The inflation and economic pain your side ushered in?
Or is this just another desperate attempt to stay relevant and grab a headline?

  36. You Don’t Speak for Us, Mr. Rodgers

You want to talk about “returning to Lincoln’s party”?
    Let’s talk about it.
Abraham Lincoln stood against division — and you, Mr. Rodgers, are out here fanning the flames. Lincoln believed in preserving the Union, not kneeling to radicals or demonizing his own people just to earn applause from the left.
You’ve taken a seat at the table of those who want to tear this country down from the inside out — and now you expect us to believe you speak for Republicans?
    No chance.
Being a Republican isn’t about labels. It’s about putting Americans first — NOT LAST.
    It means standing for:
    • Limited government
    • Secure borders
    • Energy independence
    • Parental rights
    • School choice
    • Freedom of speech
    • And fidelity to the Constitution
It means building up this country, not tearing it down to fit in with the political elite.
So no, Mr. Rodgers — you don’t speak for us.
You don’t get to wear the Republican label while trashing the movement and betraying the people who built it.
    We see through it.
    And we won’t forget it.

  37. Remember when he was running for office, people fell over themselves in endorsing the fool. Now who is the fool? Typical Vermont, Keep it isolated. No one believes what comes of of the state, including those in Congress.

  38. You lost my future support. I wonder how many others. How, I wonder, did you ever get on the Republican ticket. By subterfuge, it seems. You don’t belong.

  39. John Rodgers displays his hypocrisy with no shame at all. I have spoken to this man several times and know him to be a diehard leftist liberal. He sucked off the government teat while in the Senate and lost his meal ticket over a fight about wind turbines. I told him he would never get back into Montpelier unless he changed parties and he did – on paper. He failed as a hemp farmer and missed the freebies associated with political office. Rodgers is an ignorant man who hates America and will always be a failure. He disgraces Vermont with every word out of his mouth, just like the ace fool Phil Scott.
