….and other reasons why I waved a flag at a pro-Trump rally last week

Last Friday I donned my Trump hat, dug out a Trump-Pence sign from the closet, and joined about 20 people rallying in Barre City Hall Park from 4-7 pm. Standing in front of the iconic Naked, Kneeling Soldier statue, I waved our American flag while my wife waved her Trump-Pence sign, and we both waved and smiled at the many people who honked in support and even at the (surprisingly few) who indicated disapproval.

We had fun. We met interesting people. Not that I asked, but I’m guessing few of them had ever cared to attend a $100/plate Republican fundraising dinner. Most of them looked like what they were: working Vermonters just minutes off the job site bringing plenty of positive enthusiasm to a rally called to support Trump, the U.S.A. and law enforcement. I attended because our transactional president delivered on his campaign promises to fix chronic, non-partisan, supposedly insoluble problems. As he likes to say – ‘promises kept.”

No War.  An Australian law professor who nominated Donald Trump to win the Nobel Peace Prize said it best: “What he has done with the Trump Doctrine is that he has decided he would no longer have America in endless wars, wars which achieve nothing but the killing of thousands of young Americans,” [Prof. David] Flint said. “So, he’s reducing America’s tendency to get involved in any and every war. The states are lining up, Arab and Middle-Eastern, to join that network of peace which will dominate the Middle-East.” MORE

Record lake trout caught
Lack of wounds testament to successful Sea Lamprey control efforts

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department recently certified a record fish entry for a 19.36-pound lake trout caught in Lake Champlain in August.  Department officials say this demonstrates the positive impact long-term sea lamprey control efforts are having on the lake’s quality fishing opportunities.

Angler Jeffery Sanford, of South Burlington was fishing alone the day he jigged up the 36.5-inch lake trout from over 100-feet of water.

“I just got my first boat this year, and it was my first time out alone,” recounted Sanford.  “It hit on my first cast of the day.  Once I netted it and got it in the boat I was astounded at its size and lack of any lamprey scars or wounds.” MORE

Milne reels in four more Dem endorsements
GOP candidate for lieutenant governor Scott Milne has received four more endorsements from Democratic leaders.  

Former St. Albans Mayor Marty Manahan, former Rep. Dick Allard (D-St. Albans), former Rep. Stephen Allard (D-St. Albans), and former St. Albans City Alderman Dan Luneau join the seven other prominent Democrats and Independents who have stepped across the aisle to endorse Milne, including: 

Senator Debbie Ingram (D-Chittenden County), former Senator Bob Hartwell (D-Bennington County), Rep. Linda Joy Sullivan (D-Dorset, Peru, Landgrove, Mt. Tabor, Danby), Rep. Chris Bates (D-Bennington), Rep. Terry Norris (I-Shoreham, Orwell, Whiting, Benson), former Rep. Michael Reese (D-Pomfret, Barnard, Hartford), and Jim Salisgiver of Dorset (Member Dorset Selectboard, Vermont School Board Association, Bennington Rutland Supervisory Union, and the Taconic and Green Regional School Board).

GOP radio campaign: Support Phil Scott “downticket” 
Tuesday morning thousands of Vermonters listened in as the Vermont Republican Party began a multi-station radio campaign across Vermont, getting on the airwaves from Alburg to Vernon.

“The Vermont Republican Party is working together like never before,” said Chair Deb Billado. “We are in a much better place than we were two years ago – even just 6 months ago.  In light of COVID we were forced to think a little differently, and that has thankfully resulted in us working together more cooperatively, from the Governor’s office down to local candidates.” MORE
