Three die in highway crashes Monday


An elderly Woodstock couple died in a head-on, two-car crash Monday morning, July 24 on Rte. 4 near Woodward Rd. Mendon.


Police say John Panoushek, 79, and Jean Panoushek, 74, both of South Woodstock, died when their car crossed the center line striking head-on a car driven by Beverly Adams, 73, of Stockbridge. She and passenger Thomas Allen, 76, of Stockbridge were listed in critical condition at the hospital. 


Upon rescue workers’ arrival, both Panousheks were pronounced deceased by members of Regional Ambulance Service. The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation by members of the Vermont State Police – Crash Reconstruction Team.


Driver stopped at stop sign dies in collision – Nicholas Ringuette, 33, of Colchester died Monday afternoon, July 24 when a vehicle driven by Christopher Pugh, 38 of Grand Isle crossed a Rte. 2 median and struck Ringuere’s truck stopped at a Clay Point Road stop sign, WCAX reported.


Ringuette was reported dead at the scene. Pugh was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The incident is under police investigation. 


105 MPH in 50 MPH zone – a 29-year-old woman from Waterbury was cited for negligent operation following an incident in Berlin July 23.


Police say they stopped a 2003 Toyota Highlander after observing it traveling 105 miles-per-hour in a 50 miles-per-hour zone.
The driver was identified as Meghan Montgomery. Police say Montgomery was issued a citation to appear in court on September 7. She was also issued a traffic ticket for the violation. – Police report republished from Newport Dispatch
