A 17-year-old Manchester passenger was killed Monday night in a single-vehicle crash on a dirt road in Mount Tabor, Vermont State Police said.

Police identified the victim as Asher Cooperman, 17, who was riding in the driver’s-side rear seat of a 2014 Subaru Forester. Troopers responded at about 8:39 PM Aug. 10 to National Forest Highway 10, where they found the heavily damaged vehicle in the middle of the road.

Investigators said the Subaru had been traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost traction, went off the road and struck a tree. Cooperman, who police said was wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries.

The driver was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for treatment. A passenger in the front seat had left the crash scene before police arrived to report the accident to 911 and was later contacted away from the scene.

Police did not identify the driver or the other passenger in the information provided.
