Vermont State Police say a Barre City man is accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer and stopping motorists along Interstate 89.
Troopers received a report at about 9:41 AM April 15 that a black Ford Explorer police interceptor with flashing amber and white lights was intimidating drivers and pulling vehicles over on Interstate 89 North in Montpelier.
Police identified the operator as Joshua D. Newton, 24, of Barre City, the registered owner of the vehicle. Investigators allege Newton impersonated a police officer and operated the vehicle negligently.
Newton was issued a criminal citation on charges of impersonation of an officer, negligent operation, and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Washington Unit, Criminal Division, on June 4.
State police are asking anyone who may have had contact with Newton or his vehicle, or who has information about the incident, to call the Berlin Barracks at 802-229-9191,
