Readers weigh in on former president’s November 24

By Guy Page
Yesterday, Vermont Daily Chronicle asked about 20 regular commenters and readers (chosen pretty much at random) what they think about former President Donald Trump’s November 14 announcement that he will seek re-election in 2024.
Reaction was mixed. All readers are welcome to submit to news@verontdailychronicle.com their on-the-record comments, complete with real name and hometown, by Sunday night Nov. 20 for publication next week. All responses received so far appear below.
Jay Eshelman, Westminster – “Bull in the uni-party’s china shop”
For now, I see no reason not to keep an open mind. Anything is better than the current VT GOP establishment.
Know what you’re facing.
Keep in mind, for example, that assuming the Democratic presidential contender bench is weak is an illusion. And no, I don’t think Biden will run again. What I expect we will see is something like what happened in the Los Angeles mayoral race just decided, in which a former republican business mogul switched parties to run as a democrat and lost. Kind of like what Liam Madden attempted, but the other way around. My guess: the democrats will likely field a Liz Cheney or a Jeb Bush ticket, when they switch parties. After all, it is the ‘uniparty’, the ‘administrative state’, with whom we must contend.
In the final analysis, the VT GOP consists, for the most part, of democrat lite candidates… Phil Scott, Joe Benning, Randy Brock, Jim Douglas, etc. And its so-called VT GOP leadership is as unimaginative as can be. Further, Vermont’s harder core republican conservatives, you know, the people who post here on TNR and VDC, simply can’t articulate a clear message. To them, its all about ‘patriotism’ – whatever that means.
Watch the Styxhexenhammer666 video [from Tarl Warwick of Rutland]. Trump remains the bull in the uniparty’s china shop…. for now at least. So, let’s break some more dishes and see what happens. It can’t get any worse than it is now.
Herbert Hatch, Barre City – “Better opinion of Mr. Pence”
I’d rather not vote for Mr. Trump this time. I have a better opinion of Mr. Pence, he appears to be more stable, user friendly and is more the leader this country and the world needs.
I also very much appreciate that he is a follower of Jesus and the Bible and not just religious on the outside. The governor of Florida is my second choice as he has been active against so much of the left’s push to change America negatively to become more ungodly through ‘woke’ indoctrination and more. I’m saddened that so much of that indoctrination is present in Vermont.
And thank you, Guy, for asking and doing so well what you are doing for God and country and conservative values in your emails.
John Klar, Brookfield – “Donald Trump’s continued leadership of the Republican Party will continue to heighten our nation’s divide”
I was not an early supporter of Donald Trump — on the contrary, I greatly distrusted him. Later, I came to trust that he was well-intentioned, and even had some good policies. Plus, he did not embroil the nation in war.
But throughout his presidency, and since, his abrasive style and provocative posturing made even his most ardent supporters wish he’d shut up. That legacy has now poisoned his ability to lead our nation, in my opinion.
Though the Democrats have errantly focused all their energies on demonizing Trump and Republicans as pure evil instead of actually earning trust in the electorate with their own policies, DT has become the perfect foil for them to succeed.
I believe Donald Trump’s continued leadership of the Republican Party will continue to heighten our nation’s divide, and permit the Left to dehumanize conservatives and avoid accountability for their own failures.
For that reason, I believe the Party needs a new, less contentious leader — polls show most agree. Nikki Haley would make a strong contender, and she doesn’t tweet like Trump. Then the Party could present its leading issues, rather than a controversial personality, to voters for consideration in 2024.
Greg Thayer, Rutland – “Interesting to see who else gets into this race”
I believe Trump’s speech was spot on and positive. Albeit a little early, but I get it.
His delivery was positive, no election denying, no attacks on others (other than the Biden policies) he talked about his predecessor destroying the American people and our great Nation!
Trump talked about his record and his policies that reduced tax burdens on working people, secured our borders, held the line on inflation, interest rates and kept Americans safe, and brought American companies back to American soil, he held NATO countries accountable, and the big one, he made America energy independent! Under his leadership America became the leading exporter of energy and he made us energy independent!
Trump’s record for endorsements: 232 wins to 22 losses…
The best line, “this is not my campaign, it is our campaign.” He cites “We The People.” I remember Trump; “Promised Made, Promises Kept!” It will be interesting to see who else gets into this race.
Tom Koch, Barre Town – “Time for Trump to retire to Mar A Lago”
There are many better leaders the GOP can nominate. It’s time for Trump to retire to Mar A Lago and for the GOP to look forward, not backward.
Deb Bucknam – “Tragic hero with a fatal flaw”
Not only did I vote for Trump twice, but my two lawyer daughters and I traveled to Philly after the 2020 election and spent a week on the Trump team talking to PA voters who gave us plenty of information on voter fraud and election incompetence. For my troubles, I contracted COVID, and landed in the ICU. I also was called “soulless” in an editorial in the local paper for my comments on the Jan 6 riots–er, “insurrection”.
I think Donald Trump was a great President for many reasons, and the attacks on him would have put most of us in the insane asylum. However, I cannot support his 2024 candidacy.
Trump is a tragic hero with a fatal flaw—he has internalized the attacks on himself, and who can blame him? We can all self-righteously tell him to move on, but most of us, if we were in his shoes, could not either. But the country cannot afford for the Democrats to win in 2024, and Trump’s inability to move on means he will lose, however unfair that is. Trump is also too old (I can say that because he was born the same year I was).
Steve Merrill, Troy – “So dangerous to the entrenched bureaucracy”
We get them about once a century, a Populist President who is willing to battle the “swamp” come hell or high water, first being Andrew Jackson battling the 2nd Bank of the US’s Biddle, who deliberately threw (Biddle did) the USA into a recession/depression just to sway public opinion against Jackson.
Was Jackson a blowhard, a braggart, so emotional he’d actually duel with his opponents? You bet! Imagine if Jackson had a Twitter account?
The 2nd populist bar none was Teddy Roosevelt, who, as his own daughter once said was “the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral” who kept the “press” mighty busy with his constant missives.
The public loved him, and like Jackson, the moneyed interests hated him, witness his “trust busting”, setting aside massive amounts of public land as parks and recreational areas, he cared not a whit what his enemies thought or said, he knew what was right for the people and worked tirelessly for them. Coincidentally, both TR and Jackson had their own money and could not be bought off.
Which brings us now to Trump. Is he a braggart, a booster, brash and boastful? Like Jackson and TR, of course he is. Does he care about his swamp critics? Of course he doesn’t. He is so dangerous to the entrenched bureaucracy just look at what they did to him, falsifying warrants to spy on his first campaign, colluding with the “press”, social media, etc., all to bury evidence of his opponents corruption so voters couldn’t see what a hollow, corrupt shell of a second rate 40 year political hack who even bragged about withholding Ukraine aid unless an honest prosecutor was fired.
Trump, like Jackson, TR, and even JFK is a dangerous man as he cannot be bought and very few care about his “mean Tweets” vs. his results, a rip-roaring economy, little to no inflation, even handed trade deals, a secure border, affordable food and fuel prices, energy independence/dominance, working for the people vs. the moneyed interests, etc etc. I could go on..Could and should he do it again? Of course! Should and could he use a little humility? Of course!
We need a champion of and for the people, a businessman vs. a career politician, just look at how fast our living standards have fallen in just two short years and for what? I don’t care what he says, I care what he does, and if the “press’ hates him, as does all the alphabet “Intel Agencies”, hacks, flaks, and career politicians, all the more reasons to let him fight for us again.
Who else can and will put us, the people first? I really am glad to see him run again, as what does MAGA stand for? “Make America Great Again”, but believe me, powerful Global “interests” will be arrayed against him, unelected guttersnipes like the WTO, the WEF, the corrupt UN. and adversaries like China. Good for Donald J. Trump, he did it once and he can do it again.
Dan Pipes, Fairfield – “Toxic leadership is a style, but never preferred”
What Trumps Leadership?
“Nothing” is the short answer. By this metric, our former President’s early declaration to pursue another term fails. As a neighbor of ours who still farms put it, the last two elections were like reaching into a bucket of turds and picking the one you liked most. Full disclosure; I voted for Donald Trump -twice. I will not again.
I recognize and value the amazing success that we enjoyed as a Nation while Trump was president. Simply put, I like what he did for our country, but I hate what he has done to our country – with the eager collusion of a biased media.
Petty narcissism, name calling, reveling in boorish behavior, a very passing acquaintance with the truth… all of these things and more suck the air out of the room. Real issues are ignored. This prevents sincere leaders from reaching hard but necessary compromises.
Trump’s faults are legion, and painfully evident. What passes for the “press” today gleefully forces them on us as he crashes through yet another metaphorical china shop. Trump is the wrong choice, at the wrong time, with the wrong message.
Back to leadership. Toxic leadership is a style, but never preferred.
Our Nation deserves better.
Alice Flanders – “Under his leadership I had no fear of being marginalized, censored, or imprisoned arbitrarily”
I think of what being an American means to me. It means I can:
- Express my opinion publicly without fear of Government knocking at my door to carry me away to endless imprisonment without charges or proper trial.
- Expect autonomy over my body, to accept or reject experimental agents without fear of losing my livelihood.
- Visit any public place without fear of being labeled politically undesirable.
- Nurture my children with values that have been passed to me by my forefathers. without fear of being labeled as a closed-minded extremist who rejects the notion that the State Alone can/must indoctrinate them.
- Experience, with fellow citizens, equal opportunity allowing for success or failure based on merit, and personal effort.
Donald Trump is Presidential. He was a World Leader with a proven track record. We had prosperity, energy independence and confidence in tomorrow. Under his leadership I had no fear of being marginalized, censored, or imprisoned arbitrarily.
Let us remember why so many people voted for Trump in the first place. Today’s politicians, Democrat and Republican, want the people’s votes, but these ‘leaders’ don’t want to properly address their constituents’ concerns. They will never understand support for Trump, or fix the problem.

Let’s see we have the current feckless senile president, that he and his party
are destroying the country, Yes Trump may be a lot of things but you can’t
call him feckless, he is the ” only ” president that actually did all he said he
would do……………. Trump 2024 to save the country !!
Love him or hate him he is a ” leader ” and will save this country !!
Whether Trump is the right candidate for the GOP has nothing to do with Biden except to the extent that if it was a Biden Trump rematch the fact that the GOP put up Trump would guarantee Biden a second term.
It is time to DUMP TRUMP
The above comments are exactly why we have a RINO Governor, high taxes, and why the State voted overwhelmingly to murder fully developed infants.
And your comment is exactly why the republicans are so far out of office in Vermont. First you have to get elected and making wild exaggerated statements is the best way not to get elected.
What item is an exaggeration?
I submit my comment here, vote in Wilmington ,living overseas.
The establishment’s game ,including the media, is to divide, and they are doing a good job of it.
Do not fall for it.
Trump is the only one with the gonads and can do mentality to go head to head with embedded interests that need dismantling and rebuilding.
His mind is light years ahead of any other out there right now, and he has learned how to take on the bent media/social media, gaming our election process, and that is why they are all rallying against him, as they are fully aware of this, and will resort to any means to take him down.
Nancy is gone…toast… so we have the House and this is good, leading into the Presidential elections, in 2 years.
I’ve been around politics actively since Carters failed Presidency, in VT, Washington and overseas, within the GOP, so have a lot of hands on background, at a high level, so given this, I am 100% supportive of Trump for President in 2024.
The delivery might be a little rough and tumble, at times, but did you ever meet a successful NYC real estate developer who wasn’t?
An excellent training ground for the White House, in these times, in my opinion.
If you want a better future for America, and the free world, support Trump, and put your money where your mouth is.
I just sent a check for 300 bucks to Trump for President, out of my small retirement income, and suggest you do the same…looking at the mess the country is in, it is money well spent, and Trump needs your support right now, and into the future.
So my take is,”Throw the bums out!”
VOTE TRUMP and thanks for hearing me out.
Wow, I supported John Klar in two elections then he says Trump is too abrasive and will continue to divide the country. John, do you read what you write in comments. You divided Orange county and they didn’t vote for you because of your constant exposure of the left as in confrontational. So disappointed in your comment.
President Trump has made a contribution. The pervasive Administrative State has been disrupted. An ethos of refusal to submit has bloomed. Wouldn’t it be prudent for us to bring up others now, with less personal baggage, to take up the standard and actually begin the formidable process of dismantling it? …returning participatory governance to the states, the communities, the individual citizens?
Trump will be labeled a mass murderer if he runs again. Vaccines were rushed and according to the VEARS system has already killed over thirty thousand US citizens and maimed hundreds of thousands more. This will become more evident in the next two years as the detrimental effects of mRNA disabling human immune systems becomes more apparent. Trump’s vengeance, although just will derail America moving forward. We need a younger version of a populous candidate who believes that our rights come from GOD and can never be infringed upon. There are a few out there from governorships.
No this will not happen because the Democrats and Republicans are all gung ho for the Covid-19 mRNA murder vaccine, so Trump will be protected for his responsibility in this mass murder.
Absolutely. It is not Trump’s banner. It is the republican banner. It was there before Trump and will be there after him. It is consistent with what the majority of Americans want. Trump is not the inventor. He got elected on a GOP platform and once elected the GOP actually started downhill culminating in his loss and now the denial of the red wave which would have been assured if we had dumped Trump already. It is time to DUMP TRUMP. The GOP has multiple candidates that carry the same GOP platform, are better speakers, and are less divisive.
I support Trump
below article pretty much says it all
https://amgreatness.com/2022/11/16/the-fake-trump-desantis-war-and-the-2022-non-election/
Good article. I would also suggest reading CTH’s series of articles on DeSantis which can be found here: https://theconservativetreehouse.com/?s=desantis
“As Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ megadonor and Citadel hedge fund billionaire, Ken Griffin, openly admitted recently the Wall Street goals are (1) stop the populist movement and (2) get the Republican Party back in alignment with the multinational “corporate world.” These are the same goals of the Republican leadership in Washington DC and the same goals as the corporate media who serve as the public relations firms for Wall Street. … The professional political class, both DNC and RNC club members, politicians and donors, want to get back to normal political business operations in Washington DC. The key element at the core of their concern is financial and economic control. Again, there are trillions at stake.”
If he wins the nomination absolutely! I ain’t voting for brandon, Kakling Kamala Mayor Pete or groovin gavin
In recent times, how many self-anointed “Real Republicans” have won an election in Vermont?
I can’t change or enact legislation without being elected.
And standing on the state house steps shouting, and name-calling gets you nowhere.
Mr. Sexton has proven so.
The mess we’re in has been brought to you by the self-anointed, unelectable ‘Real Republicans’.
Exactly. As a lifelong and multi-generational born and bred and educated in Vermont republican this is the worst the republicans have ever been. No logic, realism, practicality. They behave as if they want to elect progressives which is exactly what has happened.
Until Trump the Republicans were taking it in the face. Now after saving them, they want to stab him in the back. I hope if he doesn’t get the nomination, he starts a new party and destroys the Republoprogs. I will only vote MAGA
What are you talking about. GW was President until 2008, they had a red wave in 2012 and the Republicans held the house and senate under Obama and Trump won in 2016. The truth is they were doing fine until Trump won and have been taking it in the face ever since he won. You need to reprise your political history.
he is the ” only ” president that actually did all he said he
would do……………. Trump 2024 to save the country !!
What makes you think that what Trump did was because of Trump? Those are all republican policies much of which was a copy cat of Reagan. He could get a lot done until he lost the congress. And because of Trump they have been losing ever since.
I will gladly and gleefully vote again for The Donald. And any other Rs like him…..not the Rino kind.
Reading these comment replies gives me hope for Vermont. Most of the people VTDC interviewed were never Trumpers to begin with. Some knew how to dust off the Eleventh Commandment when RINOs in Montpelier opted to back democrat policies and party members complained. Always reaching across the aisle to the democrats and made suckers out of session after session.
Some of the people above are extremely naive about the entrenched corruption in the DC establishment. They think that a soft spoken religious Mike Pence or a republican-lite woman like Nickie Haley can take them on, ha!. Remember what the press did to George W. and they thought that low energy Jeb could do it too. Someone said his toxic and abrasive style turned people off.
In a war for the future of America we have a bunch of people voting who a so sensitive they want their soft spoken daddy to be president. It doesn’t work like that when people set out to destroy you before you even get elected.
Does anyone remember what these people did to DJT? For 5 years they lied, cheated, wiretapped, spied, sued, impeached and shunned the man that the people chose and he did more for America than all the professional politicians combined. After he left they concocted a story about stolen classified documents and raided his home with armed FBI agents. The same people who buried the Hunter Biden lap top story and Joe’s families connection to the Ukraine and China.
Do you people ever read anything but headlines? I am amazed at the same people commenting here and knowing what condition our country is in voted for democrats. What is wrong with you people? My father had a quote that he used sometimes, he said
Do you feel like the world is a tuxedo and you are a brown pair of shoes? Well, that’s what we have until the corruption in DC is broken up. There is only one man available that has the experience in dealing with it and that is Donal J Trump. Get over it or live in a socialist dystopia. Trump 2024 MAGA!
AWESOME, Dano!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VERY well stated Dano. Again-I will say that our country is in such a mess we need a Trump leading our country-again! Unfortunately, the nice guy doesn’t usually win. I happened to have an unexpected conversation with a RINO today and parted shaking my head. I wanted to say “what part of inflation don’t you understand?”
Can’t believe somebody mentioned Pence.
With a little luck he will be hog-tied in Gitmo before the next election. He is a Romney, Paul Ryan, snake who deserves a cell in Cuba.
Pence. Yeah, right. Why don’t we just nominate Mitch McConnell for the candidacy and be done with it. DRAIN THE SWAMP ALREADY!!! And that includes the northern Everglades here in Vermont!
With all that was done to Trump for the past six years insofar as being crucified by a biased, propagandized media, and the the DNC along with the deeply corrupted congressional creatures who have overtaken D.C., as well as a weaponized D.O.J/FBI who has turned against not merely this President but the citizenry at large — Trump is the one being blamed for being a provocateur? Um, no.
Trump simply wasn’t part of the “swamp” he well knew existed, nor was he a “politician” looking to make back room deals with everyone whilst pulling the wool over the public’s eyes.
He was a straight-shooter from NYC who called ’em as he saw ’em which was PRECISELY what so many average Americans deeply appreciated about him, at least those who weren’t already eternally brainwashed by the aforementioned systems.
MAGA. Again, not a person but the embodiment of what American once was, ought to be, and what it could be again. And Pence ain’t gonna cut it. Good Lord……slow learners here, huh? Take a look around your state and see what it’s gotten you.
Kathleen, We have arrived at a time when people have no critical thinking skills. We have click bait articles on our dumb phones. The media is no longer free with a few exceptions and people are lazy in terms of politics. My two, now adult children ignored politics as much as possible and I told them that they can ignore politics but politics doesn’t ignore them. If a person wishes to be quiet even when they disagree with the situation, they will suffer for their inaction. I agree with your comments and more people should speak up!
Thank you….and I can’t say anything more to you other than “ditto”. I’ve been stating for years – on here as well – that once you’ve lost your free press, you have lost your free society. I genuinely feel that at this point, our country is no more. I hope and I pray that my sentiments are completely wrong, but if you would have told me merely a decade ago the dire state that this nation would be in & that masses would be led to believe that males can become females, abortion and prostitution are both “empowering” for women, violence and murder against the citizenry by fellow citizens would be avidly encouraged by those elected, that citizens would want to see the absolution of free speech and the dissolution of the US Constitution, etc. etc. and in the end have this nation be destroyed & transformed into some “Liberal World Order”? I would have heartily laughed & asked if you were revisiting your 8th grade required reading list & were in the middle of Orwell’s “1984”. I wish folks who believe as we do on here well, but sadly we are all most likely dinosaurs of sorts attempting to thwart inevitable extinction. May God forgive the USA.
Having worked on ballot recounts in 3 towns, skeptical of the high liberal vote count, I have decided that, yes, Vermonters have been listening exclusively to VPR and their brains have atrophied below their ability to participate in self government.
There is only Trump, MAGA, Patriots, to save this country, and save the world. I think he, Putin, XI, and very a few other leaders, are working toward the removal of central banking, criminals intent upon world government, aka, total control.
Welch snd Balint took illegally obtained tax dollars passed through the Ukraine laundry to run fat campaigns. No, don’t contribute equal amounts to charity, be removed from office immediately. Vermont just had one more fraudulent election.
Am confident that soon the entire web of corrupt Communist control will be swept up and destroyed. Vermont is due for a good cleaning.
Vote for Trump.
Unfortunately, what DJT has given to The United States was not wanted by a gaslighted majority. The most vilified man in America has withstood every investigation, two impeachment proceedings, countless false accusations, targeted criminal acts to compromise the man- and returns for more. He clearly exposed the corruption, malfeasance and crony capitalism rampant in our Federal and state governments. He fulfilled his campaign promises, even with the ball and chain set upon him by ‘The Swamp’.
Of course he can be callous, crude and irritating. His demeanor as a businessman and Queens NY native is ‘not presidential’. His actions and results placed all US citizens on a rising tide, better off for having him lead us.
His results and accomplishments as POTUS were so great a threat to the political industry he was cut down by a planned pandemic, election law changes and outright fraud lies and cover-ups to prevent continued success.
The quintessential question, are you better off now than 2 years ago- honestly answered might be a worthy introspection. Or, as it appears most Vermont voters think- that the status quo is just fine with them- and the assault from our politicians on us should continue.
Can DJT be reelected? Possibly, but certainly Vermont voters will not. We prefer that government control us.
TRUMP 2024
The man is tougher than woodpecker lips!
Thank you very much Guy for inviting this conversation!
I consider myself a MAGA type of guy, but I also see DT’s continued involvement in politics as a wonderful gift for Democrats and their MSM allies. If DT were to win the GOP primary in 2024 (and I don’t think he will), he would be clobbered in the general election.
So while Joe Biden couldn’t fill a high school gym on the campaign, Trump still draws thousands with a 48 hour notice. You are a Vermont republican and you are wrong. Vote for more RINOs, who will drain the corrupt swamp in DC, Mike Pence? Pick another name and find one that isn’t tied to the political establishment, seriously.
The nation has “Trump fatigue “. Is it because the left has created that fatigue or has Trump himself done it. What we do know is that 80 million plus people voted for him in 2020. That is no small task even with all his imperfections and perfections but can he weather 2 years of another campaign? Can the nation weather it? I without question support Trumps policies and want them to be brought back. What I am not sure of is if he is the right messenger. Yet in my lifetime I have never seen such passion and willingness to fight for what’s right and just for our nation.
We will all have a choice to make and I am confident we will do so with the best interest of our American dream in mind.
It’s both. But the bigger question is can Trump make a comeback? I think the answer to that question is obviously a resounding “NO”. It is time to DUMP TRUMP. Especially when we have a full stable of competent leaders who hold the same basic political philosophy as we do.
Name a couple of them who aren’t tied to the republican establishment other than DeSantis who has already said he will not run in 2024. I wouldn’t call George W. a great president. How many young men and women gave their lives and limbs for his foreign expansion and nation building in the middle east. The only great republican president was Reagan in our era. Jay, makes the argument below. You are another never Trumper apparently. Others will run in the primary of 2024 and the people will choose Trump!
I wish he could but in all reality, Trump is the only thing democrats have to run on. All their policies are proven failures. If we want to win, Trump needs to step aside. There are lots of good alternatives.
J, if you are a thinking person, you have to see who and what the democrats are since they’ve been hijacked by the progressives in 2022. There has never, in recent times been a president that fought for America and Americans like President Trump has. He had a life of luxury and didn’t have too. Look at the destruction of America in less than two years. If people are this incoherent, they deserve to suffer under their uninformed decisions. This wouldn’t be the first example of mass ignorance, just think of the 20th century. Over 100 million people were killed or murdered by their own government. History repeats itself due to mass ignorance. The question for democratic leadership is: are better off now than you were less than two years ago? Is the country better off than it was two years ago? Are you satisfied with what has taken place? We are in the idiot apocalypse due to technology. The voters beat the zombies here and apparently both have lost their brains! These are dark times. This is not America. Who will change it?
Every republican president since Reagan has been great. Where did the fake argument that the republicans were in trouble before Trump come from. It is highly likely that whatever republican we nominated in 2016 would have won. The truth is that we won in 2016 despite Trump and have been losing because of Trump ever since. Especially here in Vermont thanks to a party that has lost it’s mind over an obnoxious New Yorker named Trump who never had anything in common with republican Vermonters. I always tell people I thought Trump was an asshole when he was a democrat, and he didn’t become any better as a republican. I voted for him in 2016 because he was GOP but if he comes back this time I won’t.
From the replies I see MAGA is alive and well in Vermont.
Yes. THANK GOD. He is the only person standing between my daughter and someone else’s perverted son (possibly Biden’s) posing as a female in the high school locker room as leftist lunatics applaud. MALES can NEVER, will NEVER – be females. SCIENCE. REALITY. FACT.
MAGA. Make America Great Again! My….what a “horrific” ideology which needs to be tamped down, huh? What’s the democrat’s comparable slogan? Keep America a Hellhole Forever. (?)
can you only comment here if you’re a Trump fanatic?
Nope. All are welcome. No personal attacks, racism, or profanity allowed, but ALL points of view welcome in this Free Speech Forum.
Re: “can you only comment here if you’re a Trump fanatic?”
No, Mark. You’re mistaking VDC for VT Digger, Front Porch Forum and VPR. Those are the only organizations that actively censor peoples thoughts. VDC is the light.
My biggest concern is that if Trump does not win the Republican nomination, or the party refuses to endorse him, he will pull what Ross Perot did in 1992 and siphon enough votes (remember Perot won Texas) away from the Republican candidate and basically assure another Democratic Administration.
You make it sound like Trump made the gene therapy all by himself when actually he removed red federal tape to speed up the process. He was relying on health information from Fauci and Brix the scarf lady Dr. People think that the president should know everything when in fact they have to rely on their circle of advisors. If there are any arrows ready to fly they should be at the companies that rushed these poisonous jabs under emergency use only. The media scared the public and all the information about real remedies was censored in the media and billions maybe trillions of dollars were earmarked for the pharmaceutical companies who hid the trials and wanted the information locked away for 60 years. The nano technology used was toxic and they knew it. So, maybe next time people may want to know what’s being shot into their bodies before trusting the experts. So, how does the country hold Trump responsible for people who stepped up to get an unproven gene therapy that is now harming millions of people. Put the blame where it belongs.
We need Trump leading our Country again before it totally becomes a Socialist Country, but I fear that the RINOS, as well as Dems, will lead us into another 2020.
Smiling faces and nicey-nicey talk got us in this mess to begin with.
The Left can be complete imbeciles and monsters. The moment you call them out, they’ll say you are raising your voice, being unkind, your speech is harmful, you’re mean, racist, nazi, patriarchal, etc.
I guess all that has gone over your heads the last decade or so?
And when they starve us and freeze us to death by playing nicey-nicey, it will be our Waterloo. Frozen and starving people cannot fight back.
Those with nice incomes and homes can’t think ahead to that. They play along for fear of losing their cushy status and retirements. When are you “leaders” gonna take one for the team? I won’t hold my breath. I know too many professionals and even students who cower and kneel when told. I laughed when Bernie accepted his consolation prize.
They seem to feel the money machine is eternal. Here’s another govt program and grant for you little voters. Now go away, until next November.
A recent social media post sums it up rather well: “Not everyone has the same level of resolve or has the ability to dig deeper and stand firm when things get difficult. Those of us who possess that ability can and will press on for those who can’t or won’t. This is how it always works. History has taught us that time and time again. Why would this time be any different?” I am amazed by the number of people who swallow the lies and deception rather than research what is claimed as true. The following video is something to remind what went down during 45’s time in office: https://youtu.be/nxMkMeVNh6s – for those who doubt what went down, please explain to me what you think happened.
I so appreciate what DJT did for America in the short time that he held the office of President. His incredible ability to see through the fog of politics and his resolve to do what is right for our nation is so rare that I accept the package that this patriot comes in.
MAGA 2024
Me too, Charles! Me too!!!!!!!!
The guy is a New Yorka – he doesn’t take “crappola off-a” people. GOOD for HIM!!!! (And us in the process)!
I support Trump 100%.
While I respect what Trump did for us, voted for him twice and know we are indeed better off in many ways for his presidency, I still hope he doesn’t run this time. It’s not about his character or coarseness or any of that; I don’t have to like the guy or think he’s a good role model to appreciate many of his policies, both foreign and domestic. It’s just that I sense that after another 2 years of Biden and Harris, the voters will be open to a change if given something palatable. Too many will vote for absolutely anyone but Trump if only given that choice. And sadly I fear that most Republicans will shy away from opposing him in the primary as they know he will attempt to destroy them. So perhaps it’s best to try to get what we can with another sound Republican candidate such as DeSantis who might actually be electable versus holding out for Trump who probably won’t be. Do we really want to risk another 4 years of a Democratic presidency?
So, Trump beat Hillary in 2016 who was much more electable than Biden.
Trump gets beat by Biden in 2020 but gets more votes in 2020 than 2016.
Biden on the other hand gets more votes than Obama did.
Something stinks in Denmark and you’re trying to tell me that Trump can’t beat Biden or any of the other commiecrat lames in 2024 but DeSantis could. If the voter fraud and the states not following their own election laws beat Trump, the same corrupt can beat DeSantis. Trump not only has to fight the commiecrats, but he also has to fight the Republocrats too.
Let Trump be Trump!
“Do we really want to risk another 4 years of a Democratic presidency?”
Do you want to risk four years without Trump? He’s not even the president. And yet, he exposes the new world order like no other.
At least with Trump, we know what we get. For better or for worse, he wears his heart on his sleeve. And he’s the only president in my lifetime, since Eisenhower at any rate, I can reasonably say that about.
Talk about risk – who else has proven to better handle the slings and arrows of outrageous ‘deep state’ fortune? Electable or not, Trump keeps the new world order in check while he stays in the game. He’s your ace-in-the-whole. Don’t waste the play on sentimentality. Our lives are, literally, at stake.
Let Trump be Trump!
Steve Merrill for Vermont governor and Trump 2024!
I don’t understand why people don’t realize that had we put almost any other republican candidate up for election in 2016 they would have won. Trump was no miracle worker even though he had an evangelist preacher style. The fact is that once he got elected, he promptly created ways for the other side to criticize him and we have been losing ever since. He has to go. He had his chance, and he blew it. The policy of Reagan and every GOP President since that Trump adopted was not original Trump’s policy. It was the policy of the Republican Party.
IMHO you’re misrepresenting the Trump era.
Trump was being criticized before the primaries. He was one of 22 candidates. Count them… 22.
He followed the first African American president in U.S. history who received more votes than any president in history.
Then Trump turned around an economy that crashed initially in 2008 under GW Bush (a Republican) and barely eked forward for 8 years under Obama.
During the Trump term, minority employment and earnings increased more than at any other time in recent history. No other Republican (or Democrat) was able to do that.
Trump managed to slow illegal southern border crossings more than any recent president.
His foreign policy acumen after the disaster of Hillary Clinton was nothing short of spectacular. Do you remember Benghazi? The Uranium One deal? The Clinton server? The classified documents deleted after being subpoenaed by Congress. And don’t forget pay-offs to the Clinton Foundation? No – don’t pay any attention to that man behind the curtain…..
It was Trump who established the Abraham Accords, treaties between Israel and several Arab nations that stand to this day. He established a dialog and visited with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, who agreed to stop testing missiles and nuclear bombs in 2018. There was one missile test in 2019. None in 2020. Russian and Chinese aggression under Trump was nearly non-existent.
Under Trump the U.S. became energy independent for the first time in decades. Gasoline was selling for less than $2 per gallon. Heating oil prices peaked at $2.75 a gallon in July 2018. At the beginning of the pandemic, March 2020, the wholesale price was under $1 per gallon.
But more importantly, no matter how much credit you want to deny Trump in this regard, he managed to do these things while being ruthlessly attacked by what I now consider to be the most corrupt ‘administrative state’ actions in my lifetime. Trump is arguably the most investigated president in U.S. history. And he’s still standing. He’s running for president in 2024.
There was no Russian collusion with Trump. The Mueller investigation was a bust. The FBI misrepresented the DNC instigated Steele Dossier. Trump was impeached over a phone call that he had previously released to the public – while Joe Biden is on video doing precisely what Trump was accused of doing. Trump was impeached a second time, for instigating the Jan 6 riot, in which we’ve just learned from the NYT that dozens of FBI instigators are reported to have been under-cover in the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers during the so-called insurrection. Trump was acquitted a second time. We still don’t know who Ray Epps is. The foreign lobbying case against Rudy Giuliani has been dropped. Hunter Biden’s laptop is real. And since then, no classified nuclear documents were found in the Mar a Lago search. And now, FTX crypto money has been laundered to democrat candidates in the latest mid-term elections – including to our own Peter Welch and Becca Balint.
It’s not that Trump is a perfect political specimen. Far from it. But the accusatory double standard we’ve witnessed is typical of mainstream media and ‘uniparty’ sophistry that’s been floating around like Republican and Democrat establishment turds in a toilet that can’t be flushed… at least not until Trump is re-elected and pulls the plug – which is why the administrative state is so hell-bent against him.
The real question is how many will refuse to vote for him? Not what their preference might be.
Perhaps the more pertinent question is how will you ever know given the vagaries of mail-in balloting procedures?
Are you saying you think there are enough vagaries to allow people who are in charge of getting the ballots out and back in for Vermont are able to cheat to such a degree that they could change the results of elections? Isn’t it time to let that go too?
Are you saying…???
No. I’m saying you can’t prove that an election is legitimate no matter who wins or loses because the ballot chain-of-custody can’t be verified. And, no, it’s not time to let that go.
The basic premise of your post is that Trump did good stuff and got no credit for that and got attacked for stuff that was unimportant. All true. And the attacks were historically bad. But he was also naive in how he approached things tactically and politically. Those things are part of what makes a great leader. I’ll stick with my analysis. Reagan did more under more adverse conditions than Trump and even the democrats admired him for it. Trump had his chance and he blew it. Let’s move on so that you don’t even have to ask the question how many republicans are not going to vote for whoever the GOP nominee is. We should be smart enough as a party to nominate someone that all republicans are going to be happy to vote for. We do not need the baggage that Trump has hung on himself. Let’s move on.
Re: “The basic premise of your post is that Trump did good stuff and got no credit for that and got attacked for stuff that was unimportant. “
No, that’s NOT my ‘basic premise’. I never said Trump didn’t receive credit for what he did. I for one, give him loads of credit. Most others on this forum do too. I was simply pointing out that many don’t. And I didn’t say Trump was “attacked for stuff that was unimportant” either.
What I did say, for example, is that your post ‘misrepresented’ the Trump era.
First case in point is your opinion that “almost any other republican candidate up for election in 2016 … would have won”.
Again, there were 22 Republican candidates in the 2016 primaries. If you honestly believe “almost any” of them, including Jimmy McMillan, Mark Everson, Denis Lynch, Andy Martin, or Jack Fellure, could have won – fine. You’re entitled to your opinion. But again, ‘IMHO’, that’s a misrepresentation of the Trump era. I also don’t think Bobby Jindal, George Pataki, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul, Rick Santorum, or several others could have won either. That’s my opinion.
The other points I made, regarding the ‘good stuff’, should, ‘IMHO’, be attributed to Trump, especially so long as the bad stuff is attributed to him as well.
Perhaps you might reread my post instead of trying to rewrite it.
I read your post and understand it. I just think you are missing the big picture by trying to nitpick a response. I can go point by point and nitpick your response. Those are your opinions. They don’t need to be nitpicked to be refuted. General statements always have the ability to be nitpicked. All that needs to be done is to consider the possibilities and history and what kind of future the GOP should be trying to look forward to. We could have put up a variety of different candidates in 2016 that would have gotten elected. Trump was no savior. That is the point. As is the point that Trump did not do anything that was not part of republican politics since Reagan. Except maybe the Wall. So go ahead and nit pick arguments if you want. But the bottom line is we don’t need Trump. Building him up is a mistake. Let’s look for fresh ideas and people with more political ability. I for one cannot stand the idea of four more years of his speeches saying things like “maybe more than you have ever seen” or “that will be really really big maybe bigger than you’ve ever seen”. He had his chance. He blew it. Let’s nominate someone that will be tougher for the democrats to beat.
Re: “…the point that Trump did not do anything that was not part of republican politics since Reagan.”
There you go again. If anyone turned Republican orthodoxy on its head, it was Trump. Which is why so-called RINOs dislike him so. Some of the criticism is justified. Some isn’t. Trump rewrote virtually all U.S. trade agreements. He was fine with same-sex marriage. He leveraged businesses to return their operations to the U.S. in support of American workers instead of kowtowing to the Chinese juggernaut. He forced NATO countries to pull their own weight. He engaged North Korea.
Your opinion of whether or not Trump should run in 2024, or whether others should support him, is no longer the issue here. The issue is that you continue to misrepresent specific circumstances to rationalize your point of view. You call my holding you to account as nitpicking, i.e., petty criticism. When, in reality, your claim is incongruous. There’s clearly nothing petty about these details. Why else would you invest so much of your energy trying to gloss them over? After all, your concept of ‘fresh ideas’ and ‘political ability’ remain whisps of smoke in a room full of mirrors. When you actually find them, let us know.
You continue to exaggerate Trump’s accomplishments. What good did any of it do when he was so obnoxious that he got 85 million people to vote against him?
Excuse me but Trump didn’t create the so-called baggage. A conspiracy was set in motion to take him down before he even took office. People who criticize Trump are shallow headline readers. You ignore everything that was done to him by a powerful, corrupt Deep secret state of conspirators who set things in motion to destroy his presidency because the Queen Hillary got beat. She was supposed to be elected to protect the swamp. She and her campaign paid for the initial fake Russian lies through her lawyers Mark Elias. Trump didn’t create any baggage and had to defend himself for 6 years of lies and corrupt politicians and you want to move on? Who is the most equipped and experienced person to take on those traitors in our midst?
The people will stick with Trump in the next election. Two more years of Biden’s mess will continue and his dealings and corruption needs to be exposed. Critical thinking and common sense escapes northeast voters. As horrible as the Biden policies are and the destruction to the country in less than two years, Vermonters vote for democrats. I’m beginning to believe that liberalism is a mental disorder, how else can they justify voting to continue the misery?
Dano, please. Your anger may be justified. But expressing it in this way is not constructive. If I’m going to hold ERM to a standard, I have to be fair and hold everyone to that measure when I have the opportunity to do so.
And, yes, I don’t catch them all. I do the best I can. I’m simply hoping that you’ll try to maintain that same level of reasonable acumen.
I’m the same age as you and will express myself as I see fit. It’s no secret what and who the Clintons are and were in politics and what they did to the country and the people who were in their circle. I call them as I see them and I am a researcher like you.
Dano, You have the right to think and express yourself any way you like. I wasn’t talking about your age, your research, or your rights, just the wisdom or your choice or words…. which is, of course, my right to do as well.
“If you would hit the mark, you must aim a little above it; for every arrow that flies feels the attraction of earth.” Longfellow
Dano’s right! W/a House majority ONLY no laws they write will be passed, even w/ senate approval Dementia Joe will VETO them, so that leaves ONLY investigations of Covid origins, Illegal border policies, censorship & 1st Amendment violations, the MASSIVE Corruption, etc. etc., that the “press” will downplay or slant like today’s BFP article (PURE Dem Propaganda).
BUT– Like Dano says, after TWO MORE YEARS of this country circling the bowl and Americans being impoverished DAILY with likely food & energy shortages, deepening recession and citizens competing with Illegals for remaining jobs, no “average” voter will CARE about Trump’s..”shortcomings”. NOBODY with any sense believes the “press” & “establishment” NOW!
Those of us who read the Grassley/Johnson senate report in Aug. 2020 KNEW how corrupt Biden Inc. was & is. Just ask them this ONE QUESTION: “what product or service did Hunter, James, & Joe Biden PROVIDE for their “pay”?..These grifters & shakedown artists make Nixon & the Clintons pale in comparison.
Tallying these comments and not counting the multiple replies as votes I’d say Trump wins. I know…if we run the tally in electronic counting machinery Trump would lose, but that brings us back to the original problem. They cheated.
And as far as Trump running in 2024 – why not just let him run and let the voters decide in the Primary and General Election if he’s the people’s choice? Why is the DOJ trying to run interference and the same with some of the people in this VTDC interview?
He is going to run. And the GOP voters should kick him to the curb since he is a liability and not a beneficial candidate.
You’re exaggerating yourself now.
I’m not exaggerating. He cost us the red wave. He was a disaster for the Vermont GOP which is full of Trumpies who have lost touch with reality politics.
Money from well bankrolled Republican PACs endorsing non-MAGA Candidates and other incumbent games cost us the red wave. We need term limits also.
Fringe talking points like worrying about GOP Pacs in Vermont and statements about term limits are part of the problem with the Vermont GOP. Also worrying about gun control, making wild assed statements about killing babies and impugning the character of Vermont town clerks about how they handle mail in ballots are also part of the problem with the Vermont GOP. All are common talking points foisted up by Trump supporters in the Vermont GOP. Time to grow up and get realistic. Stamping your feet and complaining when the Vermont GOP is routinely getting slaughtered at the ballot box is a waste of time. DUMP TRUMP. He cost us the red wave and his supporters here in Vermont embarrassed us this last election.
This article tells it like it is. https://vtdigger.org/2022/11/20/where-do-historic-election-day-losses-leave-the-vermont-gop/?u=d438f34f30&utm_source=VTDigger+Subscribers+and+Donors&utm_campaign=95e2122d65-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2022_11_21_01_26&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_dc3c5486db-95e2122d65-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D
I have read all positions and 84 comments, and tried to keep an open mind, but after all that input, no one has made an impressionable position, to derail my support for Donald Trump.
I still firmly believe he is the best chance we have to fix what needs fixing in Washington, and beyond, and on the position of America, in the global arena, his policies make the most common sense out there.
Take that from an old hand.
When Trump took office, we forget we, and our allies, were getting hit by terror attacks, across the globe, and he quietly, and systematically brought those attacks to a screeching halt; that lasts to this day, but Biden’s foolish open border policies raises the risk once again.
Do not forget Trump built companies in 22 countries across the planet which means he had to deal with 22 different governments and cultures along with their regulations and that is some serious global can do background.
I’m all in on Trump 2024 and advise you to consider to do, the same in spite of all the flack, sent up in his path.
That flack is close to 100% launched by embedded interests and all their related entities.
You can see that clearly in these pages and this thought come to mind.
Thou protest too much.
Trump for President 2024.
Under Trump, life was so much better then this current administration and that is why we voted for him. He wasn’t a person who could be bought by the political parties. He truly represented, we the people and wanted better lives for us. Even so, he did have his shortcomings as do all politicians. Still we’d prefer him to this current nightmare administration that has destroyed America, our security, our lives, our freedoms and our country. So would we vote for Trump. Yes. If Ron Desantis runs against Trump, he then would have our vote because he took Trumps work and went the distance with it! What he has done to protect his people in Florida, just imagine what he could do for our country!
He got slaughtered in the last election. Worst defeat of a GOP Presidential candidate ever. He is the candidate that the democrats want to run. He cannot escape the fact that he was thinking about doing something illegal on 1/6. And he cannot escape his shenanigans with the records he took to Florida. Even if that is not all perfectly true in your eyes, he lost and we have other candidates that are outstanding and have no losing baggage. I am way to politically savvy to join you in support of Trump. He is the most divisive politician in the last 100 years. We don’t need divisive to get things done. We need a republican majority in the Legislature. Trump ensures that won’t happen. It is time to DUMP TRUMP. Please join me to get to brighter future.
There was so much cheating in the 2020 election you are fooling yourself if you think otherwise. Since when does counting stop shades get drawn and counting starts in private. Trump got the 80 million votes not the 74 million they had to give him. There, I said now I expect the FBI to lock me in a DC prison for two years like the J6 political prisoners.
John: Again…the point isn’t whether or not the election was stolen. That’s a classic diversionary false premise. The point is that we can’t prove one way or the other that the election was fair or not, because the chain of custody of mail-in ballots is flawed. You can no more prove that the election was fair than anyone can prove it was stolen.
And the absence of proof is, in itself, NOT proof. There were, after all, more than 1000 convictions of voter fraud in 2020. Those were convictions, not accusations. And while the 2000 Mules documentary shows obvious mail-in ballot stuffing, we have no idea for whom those ballots were cast.
The problem is first with the process. Not until the process is corrected can the results be proven.
Re: “(Trump) got slaughtered in the last election. Worst defeat of a GOP Presidential candidate ever.”
Wrong again, ERM. So, so very wrong.
In 2020, Biden won with 51.3% of the vote over Trump’s 46.8%. A 4.5% difference.
In 1996 Clinton won with 49.2% over Dole with 40.7%. An 8.5% difference.
In 1992 Clinton won with 43.0% over H.W. Bush with 37.5%. A 5.5% difference.
Never mind that:
Franklin Roosevelt defeated Alf Landon, 1936, a 24.26% margin. Or that Lyndon Johnson defeated Barry Goldwater, 1964, a 22.58% margin.
Chuckle…I rest my case.
There is no proof. Without proof you sound like a nut. Come up with the proof or stop making he allegation. Town Clerks in Vermont are some of the most competent and honest people in the country. Accusing them of cheating say mountains about you and nothing about them.
Nowhere in my comment did I mention Vermont cheating. Vermont wasn’t “in play” and wasn’t one of the several States to stop counting to stuff ballots. There was however, an increase in Trump votes in Vermont compared to the 2016 election. ……interesting.
Re: “Without proof you sound like a nut.”
Indeed, we’re seeing that with your commentary.
There is nothing nutty about any of my commentary. I’m not claiming things that are untrue or can’t be proven. And my opinions are not radical and are held by a very large percentage of republicans. Whether they play out the way I am predicting remains to be seen but one thing is sure, the commentary by Trump supporters pushes the limits of rational intercourse. So, what part of my commentary was nutty since that is what you posted
?
You said: ““(Trump) got slaughtered in the last election. Worst defeat of a GOP Presidential candidate ever.”
I pointed out the obvious error in your statement.
Of course, now that I think about it, we never defined what you meant by being ‘nutty’.
From Merriam-Webster
1: having or producing nuts
2: having a flavor like that of nuts
3: ECCENTRIC, SILLY also: mentally unbalanced
I think you were using the word as defined by #3. But there I go again, nitpicking, right!?
You can spin it however you want Jay, Trump was the incumbent and lost. In that he joined Jimmy Carter. Trump lost because of Trump’s failure. You are in denial and that is obvious because you still support Trump in the face of his obvious historic failure. It is time to move on. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/bill-barr-says-trump-will-burn-the-whole-house-down-and-destroy-the-gop-if-he-doesn-t-win-the-2024-nomination/ar-AA14sv50?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=99e795a1f50f4440b4d987fe6c52d76a
No spin, sir. Your statement that “(Trump) got slaughtered in the last election. Worst defeat of a GOP Presidential candidate ever.” was incorrect.
Whether you mention Vermont elections or not, (others on this thread clearly have) the whole “election was stolen” argument sounds nutty after this length of time. The proof is simply not forthcoming, and I suggest that it would benefit all republicans if some of the republicans still talking about it would stop talking about it. And while we are at it, stop calling democrats and progressives “baby killers” or “communists” and stop claiming the world is coming to an end unless we get rid of Biden. I am not saying that you are the ones saying those things but there are plenty of people claiming to be republicans who are.
The point isn’t whether or not the election was stolen.
Good people in the republican party all over the country are dumping Trump. You should too. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/bill-barr-says-trump-will-burn-the-whole-house-down-and-destroy-the-gop-if-he-doesn-t-win-the-2024-nomination/ar-AA14sv50?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=99e795a1f50f4440b4d987fe6c52d76a
I think he got slaughtered. He caused the largest turnout vote against him in history. He was the incumbent. He joins a very tiny group of incumbents to lose. You can try to rationalize why it is not true but the fact is that he got beat as the incumbent by 7 million votes. And he lost us the red wave by sticking his nose into the midterm. Time to change. Time to start from scratch and make Trump earn the nomination. If he can.
Trump is illogically vilified by the media and the Left. He “lied 6000 times”, because that is the Party Line”. Any attempt to talk about factuality is “rightwing”.
That being said, he be good for Secretary of State. He has skill in defusing problems before they lead to war.
Maybe you will accept the opinion of Trump from someone who worked with him instead. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/bill-barr-says-trump-will-burn-the-whole-house-down-and-destroy-the-gop-if-he-doesn-t-win-the-2024-nomination/ar-AA14sv50?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=99e795a1f50f4440b4d987fe6c52d76a
