An Essex man has been cited to appear in court after police say he stole personal checks from a Jericho man and then wrote checks out to himself for a total value of over $1000.
On June 23, state troopers were notified of a check fraud incident that occurred between May 28 – June 1. Troopers found that Michael Immich (28) had stolen personal checks from the residence of Brian Calhoun (66) of Jericho along with a misdemeanor amount of cash. Immich then wrote out checks to himself, forging the owner’s signatures and successfully cashed three checks on three separate days at a local credit union, depriving Calhoun of over $1,000, police say.
Immich was taken into custody on August 1, charged with Petit Larceny from a Residence, Forgery and Counterfeiting, and False Pretenses and was released with a citation to appear in court September 20.
Five years ago, Immich, then 23, was charged by Essex Police with aggravated assault in connection with an attack on a woman in a Main Street apartment.
