State police seek window smasher at anti-ICE protest

The Vermont State Police is requesting assistance from the public to identify a man who smashed a window of a VSP van, injuring a trooper, during a confrontation at the end of a protest March 11, on Dorset Street in South Burlington.

The VSP van, occupied by multiple troopers and with its emergency lights activated, was preparing to leave the scene when an unidentified individual caused damage to the vehicle’s rear window. One of the troopers inside suffered an eye injury from the broken glass. Photos of a person of interest are attached to this release.

Two clips from VSP body-worn cameras that captured the incident are available at the following links: Clip No. 1 and Clip No. 2.

Anyone who has information related to this incident should call the Williston Barracks at 802-878-7111, email Detective Trooper Brandon Degre at brandon.degre@vermont.gov, or submit an anonymous tip online at https://vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

  1. It takes some serious force to break auto glass. Someone who applies that level of energy to the window of a vehicle occupied by sworn law enforcement should be considered a grave threat to the peace and dignity of our very society and treated duly by the federal courts with a long term in club fed to contemplate his life’s decisions. Thank goodness for body cams. The ACLU is having some major regrets demanding their use now that it is obvious that in 99% of cases, they reveal misbehavior by the criminal suspects and not the police as they intended.

    • They could have possibly used one of those pocket emergency car glass breakers, which would prove it was premeditated.

  2. Seems to be dressed for protesting and possibly from a southern climate, who wears a parka in June? The mask and the garbage bag over shirt seem to be more for disguise, how do you identify a garbage bag? All black and he probably doesn’t sing country. Antifa hired hand?

He’s got th phone, they should be able to easily identify him, and if not then very likely a paid anarchist.

  3. I’d cross reference with the federal database of known leftists for hire agitators who are well paid and travel from ICE operation to ICE operation.
    Follow the money.
He is pretty strong and would stand out,big hands.

    • I also think he is wearing a wig and he has a hard inner city look about him,not born and bred in VT I’d bet.

    • He also appears to be wearing a mask, but it’s around his neck. Maybe it’s a new law requiring ANTIFA agitators to wear COVID masks at ICE protests?

  4. If the guy is caught, make an example so :IT GUY” would have other things to think about like surviving their injuries. Classify IT as an Antifa Terrorist as they have rounded up 15 in Minnesota. NO leniency. IT is on someone’s payroll. (Soros). There is a big swimming pool nearby.

  5. Frankly, I find it a pretty sad state of affairs when a van full of state troopers, after being attacked, chose to drive away rather than apprehend the suspect. It did not appear like they were responding to an emergency at the time of the attack. Lack of response only emboldens criminal behavior.
