Vermont State Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 30-year-old West Rutland man late last month.

Investigators said the crash occurred sometime between 11:30 PM Thursday, June 25, and 4:30 AM Friday, June 26, in the area of 1464 Main St. in West Rutland. The victim, Devin Pierro, 30, of West Rutland, was struck while walking west along Main Street. The driver fled the scene without stopping and has not been identified.

Police believe the vehicle likely has damage to its front or front passenger side, particularly around the passenger-side headlight area. Evidence collected at the scene indicates the vehicle may have damage to plastic molding and/or the front lighting assembly.

State police are also asking residents in the area who have home security video and have not yet spoken with investigators to come forward.

Troopers were called to the scene at approximately 5:25 AM on June 26 after Pierro was found deceased in the grass along the north side of Main Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington.

The investigation is being conducted by the Vermont State Police with assistance from the State Police Crash Investigation Unit, West Rutland Fire Department, Regional Ambulance Service and the Vermont State Police Victim Services Unit.

Anyone with information about the crash or the vehicle involved is asked to contact Cpl. Joseph Duca at the Rutland Barracks at 802-773-9101 or by email at joseph.duca@vermont.gov. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through the Vermont State Police tip website.
