The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which in 2023 called Vermont Parents’ Rights in Education a ‘hate group,’ has been indicted for paying the Ku Klux Klan, the American Nazi Party, and other fringe groups.

The group paid the fringe groups to stir up trouble, so that the SPCL could then fund-raise from concerned donors, the indictment maintains. “They [SPCL] lied to their donors, vowing to dismantle violent extremist groups, and actually turned around and paid the leaders of these very extremist groups,” FBI Director Kash Patel said April 21.

Parents Rights in Education, which educates parents about (among other topics) transgenderism advocacy in schools, is one of two Vermont organizations on the SPLC’s ‘Hate Map.’ The SPLC painted Parents Rights in Education with the ‘hate group’ brush, despite PRE protests that it seeks to empower parents to resist rising, activist transgenderism in public schools. For example, the organization promoted and staged a public meeting featuring detransitioning movement leader Walt Heyer at Vergennes High School.

But now it is the SPLC, founded by crusading civil rights lawyer Morris Dees of Alabama in 1971, that is under scrutiny for aiding far-right hate groups. In a federal indictment unveiled April 21 in U.S. District Court in Alabama, the SPLC is accused of fraudulently perpetuating racist organizations: “Unbeknownst to donors, some of their donated money was being used to fund the leaders and organizers of racist groups, including the Ku Klux Klan, the Aryan Nation, and the National Alliance.”

In particular, the SPLC helped plan the notorious 2017 Charlottesville, VA rally of pro-Nazi, white nationalist groups, the indictment claims:

“The SPLC’s paid informants (“field sources”) engaged in the active promotion of racist groups at the same time that the SPLC was denouncing the same groups on its website. The SPLC also had a field source who was a member of the online leadership chat group that planned the 2017 “Unite the Right” event in Charlottesville, Virginia. That field source made racist postings under the supervision of the SPLC and helped coordinate transportation to the event for several attendees.”

The DOJ press release (see below) provides background information about the claims made against the SPLC:

“The SPLC is manufacturing racism to justify its existence,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Using donor money to allegedly profit off Klansmen cannot go unchecked. This Department of Justice will hold the SPLC and every other fraudulent organization operating with the same deceptive playbook accountable. No entity is above the law.”

“The SPLC allegedly engaged in a massive fraud operation to deceive their donors, enrich themselves, and hide their deceptive operations from the public,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “They lied to their donors, vowing to dismantle violent extremist groups, and actually turned around and paid the leaders of these very extremist groups – even utilizing the funds to have these groups facilitate the commission of state and federal crimes. That is illegal – and this is an ongoing investigation against all individuals involved.”

The SPLC is a non-profit organization headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama, whose mission, according to its website during the relevant time period, was to be a “catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people.”

According to the indictment starting in the 1980s, the SPLC began operating a covert network of individuals who were either associated with violent and extremist groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan, or who had infiltrated violent extremist groups at the SPLC’s direction.  Unbeknownst to donors, some of their donated money was being used to fund the leaders and organizers of racist groups at the same time that the SPLC was denouncing the same groups on its website.

  1. We are finally moving down the ice berg from the tip with this and all of the written proof that is being disclosed and prosecuted about the corruption, theft of tax money and the hug thirst of Democrats for their one Party rule.

  2. Massive story.

Another aspect is the money laundering, with the SPLC setting up fake subsidiary “business” accounts from which the field sources were paid. The SPLC is sitting on a $800 million war chest, which, now that they are under indictment, is effectively frozen, 6 months before the midterms. Sorry, democrats.

Combine this with Act Blue’s former execs taking the Fifth for all 146 committee questions, and you see a picture emerging. (Remind me again how Balint got that cool million for those snappy brochures?…)

And you see why the Atlantic put out the Patel hit piece in the days preceding the SPLC indictment.

    • Information has been out that millions in SPLC funding also came from offshore dark money sources, most likely also kickbacks from tax dollars washed through other NGO’s

    • When they can’t win or get ahead any other way, they lie, cheat and steal.

  3. Just wondering how much money was channeled from SPLC into the PAC’s that are supporting our three amigos, Pete Bern Bec?

  4. The SPLC exists because the American Left decided that the demand for racism exceeds the supply. It exists because the democrat party has been fixated and obsessed as a foundation of their existence with perpetuating the myth that America is a bastion of racism and intolerance, even though we are the most diverse and tolerant society on the planet. The SPLC have been since their founding the torchbearers of manufactured outrage and race baiting. A federal grand jury indictment couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch. Every liberal idiot who has been duped into donating to them over the years will now bury their heads in the sand and plug their ears over this revelation. Liberalism is a mental disorder.
Kash Patel is a gift from God.

  5. This is the dumbest story. Paid informants are used by a wide range of organizations and government agencies to gather information that saves lives, e.g. FBI, CIA, DEA, etc. This activity was occurring at the height of the Civil Rights Movement, which had seen bombings at churches, horrible violence against white and black leaders of protests and demonstrations, and the murders of activists like MLK, Jr. Do people honestly think that any effort led by Kash Patel and the current administration that is trying to divide us by race, class, and immigration status is legitimate?

    • Liz Curry, please consider Vermont’s own PROP 4 “equality of rights” proposed constitutional amendment which segregates people into groups for the purpose of passing affirmative action laws and reparations for “historically marginalized groups. Our own state legislators are dividing us by race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, etc for the purpose of giving these groups greater rights under our state constitution, which would be in violationof the Supremecy Clause of the U.S. Constitution and the Equal Protectios Clause of.the 14th Amendment. Prop 4 has not received wide, balanced coverage other than on VDC, largely due to my coverage. I’ve been following Prop 4 since 2024. Please look to our own state legislature as the primary suspect in eroding our rights, grabbing our property without compensation, and making Vermont unaffordable. The federal administration is not responsible for Vermont’s current woes, our own legislators are deflecting from their lack of meaningful work by blaming the federal administration.

  6. You might not know that this indictment is a major story in Vermont.

Vermont’s mainstream news outlets, including Digger, VPR, and Front Porch Forum, rely extensively on SPLC to filter where they get information.

If you refer Digger or VPR to a source of the truth about a topic, they will first check whether the source was on SPLC’s hate list. If it is, then that source is never interviewed.

If someone sends FPF a post that refers readers to a website for more truthful information, FPF will check whether that website is on SPLC’s hate list. If they are, then FPF won’t publish that post.

SPLC is a key actor in the Vermont Democratic Party’s brutally effective censorship machine for keeping Vermonters in the dark.

  7. One of the most revealing fact is that the SPLC works with the United Nations to protect Human Rights as defined by the United Nations and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Transgender ideology, migrant justice, equity and immigration all fall under human rights. Racism is this context refers to capitalism which doesn’t create equal outcomes across various demographics. Copied research below.

The SPLC conducts international advocacy with the United Nations to combat domestic human rights abuses, specifically by exposing systemic racism and racial discrimination in the U.S. to UN treaty-monitoring committees. They focus on holding the U.S. government accountable to international human rights standards.
    SPLC Action Fund

Key aspects of the SPLC’s work with the UN include:
Evidence Submission: The SPLC presents evidence of systemic racism and inequality to UN committees, including the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Human Rights Advocacy: The SPLC Action Fund engages with UN mechanisms to address the U.S.’s failure to adhere to international human rights treaties.

Focus on Systemic Issues: Their delegations highlight ongoing racial discrimination to UN experts, demanding that the U.S. implement recommendations.
    Southern Poverty Law Center

The SPLC also works with the UN and local communities to incorporate human rights education.

  8. Hope that is not where my over charge on my St. Albans City water bill is going.

  9. This SPLC issue and lack of MSM coverage is a prime example of the change a word or name principle, if you changed SPCL to TPUSA what do you think the media coverage would be? Non stop national coverage off the lips of every major network for at least 12 hours a day !
