School bus hits car / Teen dies after gym class collapse / 70-year-old faces child sex charges

A Swanton school bus collided with an oncoming car yesterday afternoon.

Thursday, April 14 at 3 pm, state police responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Bushey St, at the Swanton Central School. This location was near the intersection of Robin Hood Drive. 

Megan Johnson (Age 42 of Mooers) was traveling north on Bushey St. towards Robin Hood Dr. when the school bus, driven by Tammy Leary (Age 57 of St Albans), pulled out from the intersecting school parking lot. Having taken a wide turn, Leary struck Johnson’s vehicle causing Johnson to veer off the roadway. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. 

All parties involved, and occupants of the school bus, were examined by medical staff and cleared with no reported injuries. School officials were notified and present at the scene. This crash is under active investigation.

Teen dies after collapsing in gym – At 12:29 p.m. Thursday, April 14, the Vermont State Police received a report that a 14-year-old girl had collapsed during gym class at the Alburgh Community Education Center in Alburgh. Lifesaving measures were attempted, and first responders transported the girl by ambulance to Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, where she was subsequently pronounced deceased. 

Per standard procedure, the Vermont State Police responded to the school to perform a death investigation. Preliminary information indicates the incident was medical in nature and is not considered suspicious. No further details are available.

Coventry man faces child sex charges – A 70-year-old man from Coventry is facing numerous charges after being arrested yesterday.

On April 1, police say they opened an investigation with the Newport Police Department, Vermont Department of Children and Families, as well as the New Hampshire Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

Investigators allege that Andre Laramee, 70, had sexually assaulted and conducted himself in a lewd and lascivious manner with multiple juveniles. This week, Laramee was arrested for aggravated sexual assault, lewd and lascivious conduct with a child, being a fugitive from justice, and on an arrest warrant issued from New Hampshire on similar charges stemming from this investigation.

He was brought to the Orleans County Court where he was ordered held without bail. He was lodged at the Northern State Correctional Facility.

  1. According to WCAX, they aired a comment saying the death was “asthma” related. I wonder why they had to jump out in front to say such a thing pending further investigation? Appears WCAX is not interested in obtaining facts, but rather report heresay and speculation. No speculation as to who they really work for afterall.
