Rowell: Burlington City Council, do your job!

Editor’s note: The following letter was submitted to Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger and members of the city council prior to its Monday night consideration of a resolution linking the shooting of three Palestinian men in November with the Israel-Hamas war. The council declined to pass the resolution.

You were not voted in to give opinions on your limited knowledge of events in other countries. Are you arrogant enough to think Netanyahu gives a rat’s [posterior] what you think about how he should run his justified response to the October 7th attack? No he doesn’t, Your arrogance permits you from knowing that nobody else does either. Trying to pretend you are concerned about the tragic shooting when you really just want to virtue signal on the Israeli/Hamas war is disgusting.

Due to your incredibly incompetent leadership, this city is riddled with crime and drugs, too expensive, needles and graffiti everywhere and what do you spend your time doing? Dividing your constituents and focusing on issues to try to distract them from your leadership failures.

Because you didn’t learn from that last catastrophe when butting your nose into Israel’s business, Monday will be another fiasco. Proving, once again, that you all have no leadership skills and you don’t even learn from your mistakes. You should all resign in disgrace.

Stop dividing us and wasting our time.

Work on lowering taxes, increasing out police force, getting criminals and drug dealers off our streets, clean up the mess you made, sell Memorial to a contractor who will turn it and the YMCA into apartments. These are the things you should be working on but are too incompetent to tackle.

Do your job!

  1. As stated by another commenter, like the Vermont legislature, most councilors believe that it IS their job to try to influence world leaders and push a radical left-wing agenda. They believe that is what they were elected to do. After all, when marxism rules, then all the little things like public safety, adequate housing stock and a functioning economy will just fall into place…right? They all fantasize about a crew from MSNBC interviewing them on the steps of city hall or the statehouse so they can bask in the highest levels of virtue signaling. This is what matters to a moonbat public official and this is apparently what matters to the majority of folks who vote to keep them in office.

    • The idea that they fantasize about being interviewed by MSNBC on City hall steps is helpful and probably very accurate. These people have some motivation, but the fundamental health of the City of Burlington is not their concern.

  2. Karen, that’s an outstanding letter, the problem is that this gaggle of fools “AKA ”
Burlington City Council is just that arrogant………….know it all, know nothing.

These clowns think that a leader of a foreign country gives a Rats’ A on there
opinion on how to handle a conflict within his country ……..surely they jest.

Maybe these so-called city council, should fix the problems within their own city
limits, simple things like, crime, drugs, and homelessness just to name a few of the issues, as we all know they know nothing about finance and a balanced budget or
the tax burden on its city’s property owners…….did I mention ” Gaggle of fools ” !!

Thanks again Karen Rowell, the City is looking for a new Mayor.

  3. Excellent letter stating what many of us feel!! Time to get law and order and police patrols back!! I have to laugh that those arrogant progs who are jumping ship after meeting their agenda ala Phoenix Rising and the 1619 project, because the work is too hard. Bowtie Magee has to move because the policies HE helped to implement are too expensive for HIM. Think about the rest of the low income seniors and how that affects THEM!!
To actually link the shooting of Palestinian students to the Hamas Israel war is beyond ridiculous. Especially when the student calls himself a victim of that war. Remember their very wealthy families sent them here because the West Bank is too dangerous for them. How about now? I suspect that there is much to this story that has not been made public. And never will be because it goes against their leftist agenda. What was their role in this? Maybe it is time for bleeding heart liberals to stop being a sanctuary city/state and do what is right for their city, state, and taxpaying citizens. City Council and the mayor are directly responsible for what Burlington has become since Covid. Time to clean house and the only way is to get off your butts and vote!! Karen Rowell for mayor!

  4. Meanwhile these city council members are oblivious to the fact NO shoppers are coming to burlington because the city is a shambles. Between homeless camps, drug dealers and users in the streets and a general feeling the city isn’t safe for families. Maybe burlington needs more than a joan shannon to fix this madness.

  5. This letter reeks of common sense, obvious solutions and basic, good governance. Things the Burlington Voters are terrified of. They want to show the world that they are the model of compassion and caring. Look what you have done to that once beautiful city.

  6. Karen – you could have kept the letter to just your first line.

‘You were not voted in to give opinions on your limited knowledge of events in other countries.’

    Well done.

  7. I will be tickled to read the responses from each and every one of the esteemed elected counsellors.

    • It is very likely that they are all too arrogant and cowardly to read critical e-mails. They never respond.

  8. Please forward a copy of this letter to John Walters, the “Vermont Political Observer” AKA the big noise from Ann Arbor. Chief cheerleader of the progs.
