Robert Morrell

The shooting occurred Thursday afternoon in Montgomery and stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two neighbors about the maintenance of their private road.

During an argument, Morrell produced a .22-caliber revolver and shot Temple one time in the torso.

Investigators from the Vermont State Police, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, game wardens from the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, the U.S. Border Patrol, and Enosburg Rescue responded to the scene.

Morrell was taken into custody and ordered to be released on a citation to appear for arraignment in Vermont Superior Court in St. Albans tomorrow.

Temple remains hospitalized at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, where he is undergoing treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

  1. Great. Fader for the leftist legislators. They shall now use this as the “crime of the century” to justify their push for additional entirely unconstitutional gun “laws” and completely neglect to bear in mind this State’s historically exceptionally low (often the lowest in the nation) gun/violent crime rate up UNTIL these lunatics enabled & encouraged & refused to incarcerate our recent out-of-state gang members, drug dealers, & thugs who have caused the recent spate of murders & violent gun crimes.

And now the countdown for these Marxist fruit-loops in Montpelier…..three, two, one…..

  2. One has to wonder what really transpired here. How does a man that has made it 77 years without shooting anyone get to the point where he feels that he needs to do that over ongoing disputes over their private road?

    • Dementia is a bitch and men get more and more rigid as they age. Take your pick.

  3. Could Vermont be any more backwards? Someone shoots another and then the shooter is released on a citation? Is there any wonder a segment of society in Vermont resorts to violence when there really are no consequences? What a sad state of affairs in Vermont.
