Primary: LG candidate Thayer reports long list of citizen endorsements

Faces challenger John Rodgers, who is backed by Gov. Phil Scott

by Guy Page

John Rodgers, the farmer and former Democrat running in the August 13 primary race for Republican nominee for lieutenant governor, has secured the endorsement of Gov. Phil Scott.

Rodgers is a fiscal conservative and social moderate (for example, he is a marijuana farmer) who sided with Scott on many bills in the interest of taxpayers, affordability, and smaller, more workable government. On a recent Creemee Cast interview, Rodgers cited his long opposition to the Global Warming Solutions Act both as a Democrat and a recent Republican. Other prominent endorsers include Rep. Casey Toof, Rep. Ashley Bartley, Rep. Anne Donahue, Rep. Mike Marcotte, Rep. Gina Galfetti, and former candidate John Klar.

Greg Thayer is a pro-life social and fiscal conservative and supporter of former Pres. Donald Trump. His strongest support comes less from the GOP supporters of Scott, and more from ‘rank and file’ social/fiscal conservatives, as the list of supporters emailed to VDC by Thayer demonstrates. Republished verbatim:

I am very humbled by the continuing outpouring of support and positive words from great hard-working Vermonters from across the Green Mountain State supporting my campaign for Lieutenant Governor. I am humbled, Thank you. To me, Vermont is the best place on God’s green earth. I have often said that Vermont is the best place to live, work, and play and to raise your family. I’m a life-long Vermonter and proud common-sense Republican My campaign is about You, “We The People. I raised my family here and we live here. 1. Greg, name three politicians who offered you their endorsement that you turned down.

  2. Hey and Richard Ley was not the first one posting here, surely, wait just a minute, he’ll be here.

    God Speed

Look forward to voting for you.

    • Neil ask thayer what he means when he says “CONSUMPTION TAX”

    • Hey thanks for opening the door Neil…

I noticed you don’t hesitate when you have something to post whether it makes sense or not.

Most people don’t know about Greg’s track record as a liar but I guess that doesn’t bother you to send a politician to Montpelier willing to lie about the people that work so hard for him and the people he’s asking to vote for him..

He doesn’t seem to have a list of any accomplishments after bragging about being on the board of alderman and working for non-profits…

Heck I’d like to see the non-profits where he sat on the board or actually achieved anything.. wouldn’t you?

I’m going to guess he doesn’t list it’s achievements because there have been none..

Like I said he has a big tax plan that he’s been talking about for years now but it has never come to fruition like anything else he does..

I was probably his biggest supporter in the last election and now I have to encourage people not to vote for him…. It’s impossible to vote for a person that has stabbed you in the back and continues to lie about you and the others that work so hard on his write-end campaign…

I guess it’s my sense of morality and ethics that inspires me to warn others about Gregory theater and his lies..

Common sense went out with the bath water

But now we can look at John Rodgers… A man who realized that the Democrat party left him and is now a Republican with plenty of experience serving as Representative and a senator.

John serves 16 years under the golden dome in Montpelier and I can remember many many years being arm and arm with John on the State House steps fighting the Democrat party to stop them from stealing our constitutional rights
      .
We always had quite a crew that regardless of weather we drove to the Capitol to stand arm and arm with people who cared about Vermont and what was happening in the state of Vermont and yes at that time the Democrat John Rodgers was always there and spoke loudly against what was happening to the hardworking law-abiding people in the state of Vermont.
John Rodgers has never quit that battle.

Recently he organized two rallies at the State House to fight the high taxes and the rest of the fleecing the Democrats are attempting to impose on the hardworking on the hardworking taxpayers in the state of Vermont.

He could have stood idly by like Gregory and never did a thing..

And in all of those years of attending rallies at the State House with John Rogers present I don’t ever recall saying Gregory Thayer there… As a matter of fact Neil I don’t ever recall seeing you there..

However you never have a problem bashing me in spite of the fact I have been fighting for our beautiful little state for a long long time..

It takes a lot of effort for John Rodgers and me and all of the other people that hopped in their car in bad weather and drove to the Capitol to fight for you and the rest of the people who could care less about who serves us in Montpelier Vermont..

We have a chance to put some real representation in the lieutenant governor’s office with John Rodgers…

He is the only guy that can win the race against David Zuckerman because he will draw from both Democrats and Republicans to be elected…

At some point people are going to wake up and do the right thing..

A boat for Rogers is a vote for honesty, integrity and the state of Vermont.

    • Re: “what he means when he says “CONSUMPTION TAX”

More importantly, does it matter how we’re taxed? Be we subjected to only a consumption tax (e.g., a sales tax) or the usual fare of multiple tax assessments (sales tax, income tax, property tax, and various fees), what about our excessive government spending? Neither Greg Thayer nor John Rogers have explained how they will cut the spending. Government spending is where the rubber meets the road. Cut spending and taxes, however they’re assessed, will decrease.

  3. Let’s see John Rogers, X-DemocRAT who’s endorsed by Scott, not a great recommendation in my book, and Rogers is still floating his leftist agenda, but we know how Montpelier works…….. just look around.

Greg Thayer is a pro-life social and fiscal conservative and supporter of former Pres. Donald Trump and our next POTUS, but we know the current administration’s feelings on that, Thayer’s strongest support comes from ” rank and file ” that are social/fiscal conservatives……………….something desperately needed in the state.

    • I don’t know if you got to watch the debates but Gregory Thayer also said in the debates he supports Phil Scott..

And I’m not certain about Gregory Thayer being totally pro-life after he endorsed Joe Benning in the last election and Joe Benning helped write article 5 which became s22… The slaughter of the unborn and the mutilation of our children and the breakdown of the family unit which was placed into our Vermont Constitution.

Obviously Gregory had to be in favor of that or he would have never endorsed Joe Benning in spite of what he tells us.

And remember Joe Benning called any Republican who supported Donald Trump a white supremacist and a racist..

So I’m at a loss why Gregory Thayer would endorse Benning when Joe Benning was supposedly terrible to him in the primary election as he stated in his second debate…

He also lied in the second debate stating he did not support his opponent in the primary when he went on in the general election..

Too much flip-flopping from Gregory Thayer for me to place an ounce of trust in the things he says..

The one thing I will say is I’ve known John Rodgers for many many years now…

John will look you in the eye and tell you the truth whether you like it or not…

John is a hard-working honest man who would make a wonderful lieutenant Governor for us in the state of Vermont and would continue his fight for the working man..

Please get out and vote for John Rodgers for Lieutenant Governor

  4. Add our names to the list Greg. Many in Lamoille County actively support you.

  5. Considering the current political climate, anyone running for office, as a Republican, that is not voting for Donald Trump , should find another party. End of discussion. John Rogers has repeatedly said he will not be voting for Trump. That speaks volumes! I don’t trust his kind.

  6. Please VOTE John Rodgers for your next LT Governor! You will not to be sorry period folks!! Get-R-Done Patriots Get-R-Done 👍🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸👍

    • He’s NOT an R!!!! He is what used to be called a blue dog democrat. You know a liberal with a little common sense. He is your typical JFK Democrat, now considered a right wing fanatic by his own party. Because he actually uses his brain once in a while. That does not make him a conservative!

  7. Which candidate is best for Republicans? We haven’t nominated a conservative for lieutenant governor since Phil Scott was elected and the last four times Republicans nominated a pro-life candidate, that candidate won. Catholic Democrats don’t agree with us on fiscal issues but they do oppose the castration of children and the assault on crisis pregnancy centers. His candidacy also will help Republicans down ballot who Trump supporters wouldn’t vote for after skipping Phil Scott.

  8. you are in a debt based financial system that is out of control by design/// these political hacks need to understand the real problem that needs to be addressed//// remember/// pickpocketpowell and grammy smelling yellen at the federal reserve will save you///// more inflation coming your way soon//// watch for more people laid off//// glad to see angelo napolitano is still alive//// consumption tax means you are going to get screwed again///

  9. Just remember folks most Republicans are actually Democrats, but no none nada Democrats are ever Republicans.

  10. I did not give Gregory Thayer verbal or written consent to print my name among his list of supporters. I was not informed my name was included until August 10, one day after publication in VDC, and two days after I wrote in a text to Gregory that I did not want to be added to a list of his supporters. As of today, I do not know whether this list has been submitted to other media outlets. While I agree with Gregory on most issues, the inclusion of my name among his list of supporters for publication was not an error of confusion. Candidates who seek to use individual’s names in print as endorsements should be prudent in receiving written consent, and should notify endorsers of their intent to submit their list to media outlets.

  11. Having closely watched the last six election cycles in Vermont I have recognized a pattern. Richard Ley has consistently and reliably attacked any Republican candidate that has had a primary run against Phil Scott and has now extended his animosity to Lt Governor candidate Gregory Thayer, who is not endorsed by Phil Scott. I remember quite clearly Richard’s attacks on both Keith Stern and Bruce Lisman when they ran against Governor Scott. These attacks are personally vicious and end up doing great damage to all of the Republican candidates that are trying to bring sane fiscal policy and constitutional adherence back to Vermont. If Richard would spent the same amount of time enlightening Vermonters about the travesty of supermajority rule as he does brutalizing conservative candidates we would not be in the mess we find ourselves. As Joe Benning used to say, “We are engaged in a circular firing squad.”

    • Stu, I’m glad you have closely observed these elections…

You do know it goes beyond someone running in the primary against Phil Scott.. It is our duty as Republicans to be knowledgeable about the candidates running for office and learn everything about them prior to cashing a vote.

It is up to the voters in the state of Vermont to provide the most qualified candidates to represent us under the golden dome in Montpelier.

First of all presenting the truth to people is not an attack… If that theory applies then you have attacked many people on this page..

I have no animosity towards anyone running for Lieutenant Governor however I think I have the right to protect my good name from Gregory Thayer who is lying to people about me and sending messages behind my back trying to damage my reputation…

Don’t you think people have passed messages on to me that Gregory has sent to them attacking my good name.. Do you condone that behavior?

So if you want to discuss attacking people the only attacks taking place are being done by Gregory Thayer. And now you.

So you consider me exposing facts about either Keith Stern or John Klar to the public an attack and you’re up here using my name to attempt to make me look bad..

I’m very proud of the research I do about candidates and I present the absolute truth about them… I can’t imagine a voter in the state of Vermont that would not welcome All of the information about a candidate that they would consider voting for.

Were other people involved in calling out Keith Stern or John Klar as not being qualified to serve as Governor in the state of Vermont since neither one of them held any public office at all prior to their run for governor?

Was it an attack to expose the fact Keith Stern ran on other tickets rather than Republican prior to running for Governor as a Republican..

These are all things that people need to know and I was more than happy to provide the information.

And one person in the Clarendon Republican committee told one of our representatives that I should be removed from the Republican party for exposing the truth about John Klar as well.

It’s unbelievable that exposing the truth to the public about a candidate is now an attacck.

What is it about the truth that you don’t like?

Why would you attempt to take free speech away from someone?

It’s obvious that you blindly support and vote for candidates if you are supporting Gregory Thayer and voting for him..

The answer is yes there were a lot of people that felt the same way I did and voiced their opinion about Keith Stern and John Klar.

You and I both know the reason you wrote this letter. It was an attempt to use my name to make me look bad..

All you have to do is look at the election results when Keith ran and John ran and you can see that there were a number of people that agreed with me…

I think everyone knows that you were supporting Gregory Thayer and this is a last ditch attempt to try to make me look bad as well as John Rodgers.

I attempted to have a discussion with you via messenger the other evening about Gregory Thayer and the lies he is telling and why I cannot support him for Lieutenant Governor..

None of it was an attack It was merely the truth but you did not want the truth.

I wanted to send you information and what did you do… You immediately blocked me from sending you the truth..

Do you think it’s okay for Gregory Thayer to attack me because I worked so hard on a write in for him and now he decides to lie about it and attempts to drag my name through the mud..

You must know by now that Jim Sexton and Shirley Sexton have verified everything I had to say… Don’t forget they were involved as well.

Gregory Thayer sold us all out after we worked so hard for him..

You and I both know he has been using the different GOP committees to block me from exposing the truth to the voters in the state of Vermont.

I don’t think exposing the voting public to the truth about a candidate is an attack at all.. after all don’t you agree we should know everything about a candidate before we decide to cast a vote for them?

I wanted to send you the information that I have been posting and what did you do Stu?

You blocked me from sending you the information.

I wanted to provide the information so you could make an intelligent decision about Gregory Thayer and whether he was qualified to be Lieutenant Governor in the state of Vermont after what he has done to the people that worked so hard for him..

So I’m going to post the web page here so you can check it out..

      Gregorythayer.com

      So these are the facts…

John Rodgers has served 16 years under the Golden dome in Montpelier Vermont and stood arm and arm with us at rallies on the statehouse steps and I’m sure you must have been there for a couple…

John was brave enough to stand up for us and fight for us in spite of the fact he would be chastised by the Democrats for doing so.

But John has shown a commitment to the hardworking tax paying Vermonters for years now.

He recently held two rallies at the State House to fight the taxation being imposed on the hardworking taxpayers in the state of Vermont.

Could you tell me if Gregory Thayer ever participated defending us.. Was he ever had a gun rally.

So when I post the truth about the candidates it is only to give knowledge to the voters so they can make an honest, educated choice about who they want to represent them in Montpelier Vermont.

So I am voting for John Rodgers because he’s most qualified and has done the most work for the Republicans in the state of Vermont in spite of the fact at the time he was not a Republican.

John is now a Republican and I think every Republican in the state of Vermont should be voting for him since he is the only candidate that has an opportunity to defeat David Zuckerman.

Stu, I hope this information helps to enlighten your faulty assessment of the facts.

    • Re: “It is our duty as Republicans……… etc., etc., etc..”

Duty – Noun: An act or a course of action that is required of one by position, social custom, law, or religion

No, fellow citizens, it’s not our ‘duty’ to do any research. It’s not even our ‘duty’ to vote. It’s a choice we make.

It may be ill-advised not to do the research, or not to vote. But it’s not ‘required’ that we do so. Perhaps, if we conceded this constitutional fact to those with whom we disagree, we’d spend less time criticizing people and more time criticizing their policies and the facts they cite to support them.

For example, I have qualms with both of these candidates – Thayer and Rogers. But then, I’m not a Republican. Nor am I a Democrat. I’m an independent. But a citizen, nonetheless.

I’ve asked Rogers to comment on his reasoning for not voting for Trump. His citation of Trump’s treatment of subcontractors doesn’t hold water. I’ve asked Rogers to comment on his position regarding School Choice. To date, not a word.

I’ve asked Thayer his position on School Choice. Ditto. Not a word.

And I’ve asked Mr. Ley why my questioning of Mr. Rogers in this regard was wrong. Again, to date, not a word.

As I’ve opined before, no one is perfect. But whether or not I do the research or use a Ouija Board to make my decision is my business. I simply ask that my questions are answered without chastising me for asking them, and I will endeavor to return the courtesy.

  12. Glad I declared myself an independent years ago. The Vermont 2024 election is a yawn fest. The choice between low energy, low vibrational GOP stumps or the sociopathic, perverts of the Dem/Prog cult. The writing is on the wall – time to bail out and seek asylum – perhaps the Eastern bloc isn’t as bad as NATO projects it to be since the 1940’s. Think mirror.

    • H. Jay Eshelman,

I can honestly say I never recall saying to you that questioning John Rogers about anything is wrong especially when my goal is to expose the truth to everyone..

I have encouraged people to go to one of the many meet and greets that John has been holding around the state and ask questions of him..

Have you taken any time to attend one of these meetings to speak with John?

And as far as it being a duty to do research about the candidates and expose what I find to everyone… Well if you prefer you can call it my choice…

I still consider it My duty to defend my state and this country by fighting to be sure the best candidates to serve us are elected.

I think it’s important to educate people as to who they’re voting for… I think it’s far more important than misleading people.

After all I think it’s the goal of everyone that votes in the state of Vermont to elect a candidate who is HONEST… THAT WOULD BE MY VERY FIRST CONSIDERATION.

Ever since I was a little kid said this to me and my siblings… And I quote, “A man is only as good as his word,”

And throughout my life I have found out that my father was absolutely correct about this statement and I found it to be true when dealing with people..

Many people get up here and present an opinion which is great.. but opinions are not factual..

You should know when you go into a court of law that it’s not your opinion that counts for anything It is the facts that determine the outcome.

That is why I am determined to expose the facts to everyone.. not everyone likes them but they are still the facts.

Just think if we weren’t allowed to do that or didn’t feel it was our duty to expose the facts we wouldn’t know anything about David Zuckerman and everyone would be lining up to reelect him wouldn’t they H. Jay?

As a lifelong Vermonter I think it’s sad when we don’t encourage people to do some research and investigation so that we can elect the very best candidates to represent us under the golden dome in Montpelier. I don’t know how anyone could not agree with doing that.

So I appreciate when you post things here and I’m hoping they are factual and you consider it your duty to make them factual..

I’ll just point out, THE TRUTH ISN’T ALWAYS PRETTY BUT IT’S STILL THE TRUTH.

In closing I just want to say I appreciate what you post… I don’t have to agree with it and I will always look to see if it is truthful.. but I still appreciate it and respect and defend your right to free speech..

  13. Re: “Have you taken any time to attend one of these meetings to speak with John?”

So now it’s my fault, Richard?

Some of us can’t get out like we used to. This is the beauty of having the VDC forum, open as it is to all of us – as opposed to Front Porch Forum, VT Digger, Seven Days, and VT Public.

Re: “As a lifelong Vermonter I think it’s sad when we don’t encourage people to do some research and investigation…”

You didn’t ‘encourage’ research and investigation, Richard. You characterized it as a ‘duty’, i.e., by definition a requirement. And here I am, doing the best I can in that regard and the ad hominem attacks are my fault for not being able to meet personally with either of these candidates.

Why are you the only person responding? If you can do it, so can Thayer and Rogers.

    • So what you’re saying is you would prefer to get up here and just chastise people who know what is going on who have invested time and money to be at rallies and at events to ask questions and know the answers rather than invest your own time to get your own answers and make an intelligent decision..

I’m an old retired guy and it’s expensive for me to get around but I value the state I live in and that I have been in for my entire life and that is why I go the extra mile to speak to these people and to pick their brain before I make a decision on who I will vote for..

      That is where we differ..

I believe in action and I believe in a man that is willing to put in the time to fight against those that would destroy us and that has always been John Rodgers.

You conveniently hop on this page and berate everyone but you don’t invest a minute of your time or money to go around and get the honest answers..

I have provided you the truth about both candidates I don’t know how many times now and you still have questions..

If you haven’t received the answers that’s on you.

There are many avenues you can pursue to get answers to your questions but you would rather get up here and tear people apart that are working hard to do what is best for our beautiful little state..

You told me I was wrong when I said it was my duty to be involved in the political process and to expose the truth about candidates.

      You were wrong.. absolutely wrong..

You gave definitions of the words I used but you never provided the information to prove that I was 100% correct and what I said.

I could post it here but I’m sick of providing information two people that are far too lazy to search for the truth and too willing to call me names for being honest and factual in what I post here.

So once again I will post a website where you can learn some of the facts about Gregory Thayer that prove he is a liar… You can contact me if you want more because I have a ton of texts that show he’s willing to lie to me you and everyone else that he is asking to vote for him.

I have to question the motives of anyone that would support a liar from the second highest position in the state of Vermont.

Here is the web page check it out
