“Out of an abundance of caution,” Vermont will be following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and the Food & Drug Administration and has paused the administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine due to “extremely rare” instances of adverse reactions, state officials said. The federal government will review the data and make additional recommendations in the coming days.
All Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine appointments scheduled for Tuesday were cancelled. Vermonters who are scheduled for appointments through Friday can be rescheduled at a later date. All two-dose (Pfizer and Moderna) vaccine appointments will continue as previously scheduled.
A virtual emergency meeting of the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will be held today 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., to discuss how to proceed in light of the ‘pause’ on distributing the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine due to reported blood clotting problems.
No registration is necessary to view the meeting by webcast. According to the agenda, the meeting will include and “update on thromboembolic events” and “COVID-19 vaccines safety surveillance.”
To date, 49.1% of Vermonters have been vaccinated for Covid-19, according to today’s vaccine dashboard published by the Vermont Dept. of Health.
Meanwhile former Vermont Governor Dr. Howard Dean has joined the critics of the ‘pause,’ saying the six reported cases of vaccine-related blood clotting are less than the potential deaths caused from withdrawing the vaccine. He tweeted yesterday: “This is about 6 cases in 6.8 million vaccines. This pause is not particularly good science. Odds are overwhelming that far more people will die from Covid because of this pause than lives will be saved by not vaccinating.”
His statement earned him respectful disagreement from Twitter followers, including this tweet from Cathy Callahan: “Plus 16 in Europe with another adenovirus-based vaccine. Plus this was an emergency authorization. Sorry, this needs to be cleared up….there are 2 other vaccine options. J&J has only been out for a few weeks. Young healthy people should not die from a vaccine.”

Ugh, Howard resurfaces… Well, once again he’s dead wrong. Evidence continues mounting here and abroad that the Johnson and Johnson “vaccine” in particular is dangerous, even lethal. Not that I personally believe any brands of these rushed-to-develop “vaccines” are safe, but whatever it is that J&J pours out is produced with abortion-derived cell lines. As a pro-lifer, if nothing else this alone solidifies my decision to reject it. I will never be jabbed with any brands Covid concoctions.

He is wrong. When young healthy people are getting serious blood clots from this, who would be highly unlikely to have ever died from Covid, it’s not a good idea to use it. And the AZ vax, authorized in Europe and other places, with a similar technology to J&J, has caused hundreds of cases of blood clots and at least 30 deaths. As it can take up to 2 weeks for the blood clots to surface, we still don’t know the totals for the J&J vax yet. I just read about a previously healthy man in his 40’s who has had a serious stroke after receiving the J&J vax.
