
What police are calling “a substantial amount” of motor oil was reported dumped into Lake Arrowhead in Milton August 29.
Fire Department personnel took measures to contain the spill near the Lamoille River inlet. It is currently being cleaned up contractors hired by the Vermont State HAZMAT team hired contractors to clean up the mess.
VSP personnel along with an Environmental Enforcement Officer from the Vermont Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene to investigate the incident, which remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Agency of Natural Resources or the State Police.
Lake Arrowhead, also known as Arrowhead Mountain Lake, is home to a variety of fish including smallmouth bass, panfish, pickerel, northern pike and rainbow trout. It was formed as a reservoir with a hydro dam at its southern end. However, the Town of Milton sources its drinking water from Lake Champlain.
