A 20-year-old Burlington man was arrested Friday afternoon after police received multiple reports of a man carrying a shotgun through City Hall Park and the Church Street Marketplace, allegedly threatening a group of people.
Jayden Sweeney of Burlington was taken into custody without incident at his Cherry Street residence following the October 30 incident, Burlington Police said Sunday.
Police began receiving calls from the public at approximately 3:17 p.m. reporting a man armed with a shotgun walking through the downtown area. Investigating officers subsequently learned that the man had allegedly threatened several people in City Hall Park.
According to a statement issued by Interim Police Chief Shawn Burke, investigators reviewed video evidence and witness accounts confirming that Sweeney had been recklessly handling a shotgun in City Hall Park and walking along the Church Street Marketplace.
Officers obtained a court-authorized search warrant for Sweeney’s residence, where they recovered a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun and ammunition.
Police are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have been threatened by Sweeney to come forward.
Sweeney was ordered held on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, November 2, in Chittenden Superior Court.
The incident is being investigated as reckless endangerment. Police have not reported any injuries.

Westward Ho! Google it. 30+ years ago I saw this coming.
Very interesting, notice a huge uptick in gun/shooting incidents nationwide, just days before a big election when Dems may be on the ropes?
