A trip to City Market ended in a knife threat and an arrest Monday morning after a Burlington man tried to walk out of the South End store with a cart full of unpaid groceries, according to Burlington Police.
Officers responded to the store at 82 South Winooski Avenue around 8:10 a.m. on August 10 after a loss prevention employee attempted to stop a customer who was leaving without paying for more than $90 in groceries. When the employee tried to take the cart back, police say the man pulled out a knife and threatened to hurt him. The employee held onto the cart and the stolen food as the suspect took off.
Police tracked the man down a short distance away on College Street. He tried to run, but officers caught up with him quickly and took him into custody without further trouble.
The suspect has been identified as 44-year-old Shawn Foster, who is listed as homeless. He’s now facing charges of assault, robbery, and resisting arrest, and is being held without bail. Foster is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, August 11.
Court records cited by police paint a picture of a long history of run-ins with the law: Foster has racked up eleven felony convictions, eighteen misdemeanor convictions, fourteen failures to appear in court, and two prior escape charges in Vermont.
The case remains under investigation by Officer J. Meierdiercks of the Burlington Police Department.

With that many felonies and extensive crime record, why was Shawn not behind bars for a long time? Hopefully because of the efforts of that brave City Market employee the legal system will recognize Shawn is a serious career criminal, take the need for public safety seriously, and put him away.
11 felonies, 18 misdemeanors, 14 no shows in court and 2 escapes? In Burlington he’s just a novice criminal.
Hopefully the loss prevention employee will be seriously reprimanded for not allowing this shopper to leave with his groceries after using his “alternative payment method for disenfranchised customers”. Hey moonbats, if you are tired of some customers using this grocery check out method and driving up the prices for the paying customers, it’s not too late to get out and vote for Bram Kranichfeld for State’s Attorney. Polls are open until 7pm.

Imagine if judges actually held people accountable, police would only have to catch them once.
Chittenden County doesn’t care. For example they prefer state’s attorney Sarah George according to yesterday’s primary results.
Did capitalism create mentally disturbed people to the point where we now have millions of unhoused mentally-emotionally ungovernable individuals all across America?
And yet, at the same time, millions upon millions of undocumented migrants come first for housing, jobs, and various public assistance?
I doubt we had this insanity after the 1929 Market Crash and ensuing Great Depression. This is more like a forced rebellion by choosing migrants over citizens, and for insane political reasons… like power.
Is it cheaper to sustain the homeless on the streets? Are the leadership all in agreement that it’s too costly to house and feed them because perhaps they’ve become so ungovernable — a situation the Left literally developed through one of their mantras: “Become ungovernable.” I’m sure once someone is on the streets, and they are despondent, they will surely be ungovernable, especially if they’re not incarcerated or put into some kind of in-patient mental program.
Perhaps they commit crimes so that they can get arrested and then get a meal out of it once they’re in a jail. I think being outdoors 24/7 has got to be extremely difficult and dangerous even to themselves, never mind the public at large.
What the hell are the leadership really thinking or planning with this epidemic? It doesn’t go away or improve itself on its own. However, are these poor souls even employable? Likely not. How will they support themselves if they get any kind of housing? They don’t seem to be capable of living in a rooming house or becoming roommates. How are they to be rehabbed at all? What are they saying that they want out of all this? Is living unhoused their choice? If so, which it seems to be in a lot of cases, that’s not a reasonable request to grant to them. The “my body, my choice” remark comes up a lot on social media about this.
No, no, no. This “ungovernable” concept is not sustainable, nor is it civilized. And it absolutely is a public health danger to everyone. But the other thing is this: Now the Left is blaming the Iran war and moneys going to Israel for the homeless contagion. Really? This has been going on and booming for years. The promises from politicians like Bernie for decades has been “good paying jobs.” Where are the good-paying jobs? If that is the answer, then why hasn’t that come to fruition? I’m sure there are tons of excuses, but that to me is not a good reason to keep voting for any party that comes back with excuses. And then cover it up with their so-called “compassion” by allowing human society to degrade.
