Updated: Man charged with Unlawful Fornication

A Hinsdale, NH man has been arrested by Vermont State Police for Unlawful Fornication.

State law (Title 13, Section 5, Chapter 205, “Unlawful Fornication”) says “Persons between whom marriages are prohibited by the laws of this State who intermarry or commit fornication with each other shall be imprisoned not more than five years or fined not more than $1,000.00, or both.”

The Vermont State Police investigation in this case determined that Samuel W. Hunt had sexual contact with a relative, and subsequently lied to police during the investigation into the incident. VSP worked closely on this case with the Windham County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Beginning on April 26, 2022, VSP began an investigation into alleged sexual offenses said to have occurred at different locations in Windham County on April 24, 2022.  This investigation determined that Samuel W. Hunt, age 37, committed the above offenses.  

Detectives with Hinsdale NH Police Department assisted with this investigation. Hinsdale is located directly across the Connecticut River from Vernon.

Bennington man charged with child sex crime – On January 17, the Vermont State Police – Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit was notified of a lewd and lascivious incident involving a juvenile child under the age of 15.  

Probable cause was developed to charge Robert Florio, age 39, of Bennington with the offense of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.

The judge imposed conditions of release upon Florio and ordered him to appear in court January 31.  He was released on his own recognizance.
