by Gerald Malloy
I announced in December that I am running for United States Senate and I would like to share some observations and thoughts. BLUF, it is an exciting time to be a Republican!
Just in the past weeks I have been to events in Burlington, Colchester, Manchester, Barre, Essex, Castleton, and WRJ, and before that to events in DC, Maryland, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, and New Hampshire. The Republican Party, here in Vermont and across the country, is on a path to a very successful 2024. That path started right after the 2022 elections; we’ve learned, we are unified, and we are focused. The VTGOP and 14 County Chairs have been building steam and growing everyday, developing quality candidates, with great initiatives on our platform.
So we are moving in the right direction, but we absolutely cannot let up. Vermont and Vermonters, literally, cannot afford another two years of the Democrat/Progressive supermajority. America and Americans, literally, cannot afford the $34T debt at $2B/day in interest alone. We have 9 months until the General Election and in my speaking engagements I have been asking folks to do something every single day to promote the Republican Party – we believe in the Constitution, we offer common sense solutions, and we represent all. We will deliver safety back to our communities, jobs and a strong economy, and foreign policy that promotes peace – things all Americans want and are not getting.
Right now I do not know who I am running against. It does not matter. The likely candidates have this in common – career politician, without relative business/military/foreign policy/government agency experience, that has been instrumental in leading to the current state of the Union and Vermont: crime, drug and homeless crises; danger-zone debt; a Vermont economy that fuels its alarming demographics trend; and talk without action. No likely opponent will deliver safety, jobs and economic future for Vermont, peace, and access. I will. And I will be civil and open-minded; I will listen and act.
In terms of learning from 2022, one of the challenges we face is overcoming the false messaging of the Democrat Party, such as how the Supreme Court banned abortion (it did not; States and people decide). The main issues to most Vermonters are the drug/crime/homeless crises that are completely ignored (or actually even supported), and the supermajority making Vermont unaffordable with the “Affordable” Heat Act, the Payroll/Child Care Tax, failure to reform Act 250, and a proposed 18.5% tax hike. People and businesses are leaving Vermont; mortgage rates and heating costs have more doubled since January 2021.

I did want to share some observations and thoughts about ‘existential climate crisis’. I recognize that Vermonters, including myself, are deeply concerned with the climate and environment. I visited schools and engaged young people that would ask me ‘what are you going to do about the existential climate crisis?’. I would explain that I do not believe we are in an existential climate crisis, and discuss doing one’s own research and drawing one’s own conclusions. I would discuss being in support of innovation and developing wind, solar, and electric capabilities that are reliable and affordable, and supporting the United States developing the resources/excavation/processing capabilities in an open market, without trillions of tax dollar subsidy, and not relying on and supporting communist China. To be frank, it is disturbing to see young people worried about their existence due to a climate narrative, but I want to take that interest and concern and turn it into a positive. As someone that has been successful growing jobs and business in competitive industry environments for many years, I know I can produce results in bringing business and jobs to Vermont as part of a Tech Hub for future energy solutions as well as semiconductor chips development – that’s a bright future for Vermont.
I was introduced recently as someone that loves Vermont. I do, and I am running because the future for Vermont does not look good. We need common sense change, we need elected representatives that can and will implement common sense change, and, as I talk about, take the harder right over the easier wrong, something career politicians don’t do. As President Coolidge noted, there is an indomitable spirit of liberty in Vermont. The Republican Party in Vermont has that spirit of liberty. Jump on board for Vermont’s future.

As an independent Voter who believes in Liberty and the Constitution Gerald Malloy has my full support.
Let’s face it. Malloy is unelectable in Vermont.
Contrary to what Malloy suggests about the Vermont Republican Party’s bright prospects for the 2024 elections, there are significant concerns that point towards a different reality. The party is currently facing several challenges, including division, outdated approaches, and financial difficulties. Specifically, some members (revengeful righteous, alienating Right Wingers) who hijacked Malloy’s previous campaign have contributed to these ongoing issues, indicating that internal cohesion is a problem.
Furthermore, Malloy seems to lack a clear understanding of the complexities facing Republican candidates in Vermont. There’s a noticeable shortage of candidates stepping up for the upcoming elections, and among those who have, few are considered strong contenders. This situation raises doubts about the party’s ability to make a significant impact in 2024.
Malloy’s strategy for addressing issues often mirrors rhetoric commonly heard on certain news outlets, which may not resonate with the broader electorate seeking practical and effective solutions to their concerns. His approach appears to focus more on repeating popular talking points rather than offering concrete plans for action.
Additionally, Malloy’s messaging strategy has been questionable. In an effort to gain momentum for his last campaign, he seemed to align himself with more extreme factions within the party. This move arguably backfired, leading him to seek the endorsement of a polarizing figure (you know who), which might have further alienated potential supporters.
Lastly, Malloy’s portrayal of his professional achievements, particularly his claims about fostering job growth, is met with skepticism. His background in the Department of Defense (DoD), an organization criticized for inefficient use of funds, contrasts sharply with principles of fiscal conservatism. The idea of promoting job growth in sectors associated with waste and questionable practices does not align with the needs or values of many Vermonters, but will lead to a hight debt.
In sum, Malloy’s optimistic outlook for the Vermont Republican Party and his own campaign does not fully account for the complex challenges ahead. Success in 2024 will likely require a more nuanced approach, including addressing internal divisions, focusing on viable candidate recruitment, and presenting clear, pragmatic solutions that appeal to a wide range of voters.
P.S. The abortion issue is a rope around his neck and the former president’s endorsement is a ball and chain.
For the 2022 election McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund had over 100 million dollars to help Republican senate candidates get elected. So, what did he do with the money? Let’s start with Arizona. McConnell gave zero dollars to Blake Masters. Masters was outspent by 64 million dollars. Kelly 73 million Masters 9 million. In Pennsylvania OZ was outspent by 15 million dollars. Fetterman 52 million OZ 37 million. In Nevada Laxalt was outspent by 34 million dollars. Cortez Masto 46 million Laxalt 12 million. In Georgia Walker was out spent by 43 million dollars. Warnock 75 million Walker 32 million. In New Hampshire Bolduc was out spent by 34 million dollars Hassen 36 million Bolduc 2 million. McConnell stopped sending money to Bolduc after he was endorsed by Trump. Republican governor and rino Chris Sununu won election by a wide margin but didn’t lift a finger to help Bolduc. McConnell gave ZERO dollars to Vermont’s Gerald Malloy who also was endorsed by Trump.
And Rasmussen (right-leaning, and among the most accurate polls) still had Malloy within 5 points of Welch. Then the voter rolls, mail-in ballots, and DOMINION machines kicked in and he was pronounced a 20-point loser in November.
Masters was great, I still can’t believe he lost that race.
Let’s set the record straight on who is creating divisiveness and negativity: it is the members of the GOP (and attitudes like yours) that want those that believe in the value of life from conception until natural death, which is fundamental to the principle of unalienable rights given by our Creator, as written by our Founders, upon which our U.S. Constitution is based, and a principle of the VT GOP platform, to blame those that are uncompromising on this principle, labeling abortion a “finer point” because there is greater concern for responding to people’s desire for economic prosperity, thus putting the State fully in charge of giving and taking away rights. Gerald Malloy clearly indicated that States determine abortion laws, not the federal government. The mass hysteria over the SCOTUS decision was irrational: once again, States decide. As for the rope comment; much worse is the millstone around some people’s necks for performing abortions, unless they repent. The fact that some people would consider an endorsement from Trump a “ball and chain” exposes the fact that emotions, not rationality, are in charge.
VTDigger headline,
“ In June, Gerald Malloy said he’d back a nationwide abortion ban. Now? He’d ‘have to look at it.’” He’s flipped flopped on this issue.
What will his position be this week?
Sounds like he’s playing both sides, but mostly you.
Vermont voters simply don’t care for the former president and they’ve demonstrated that at the poll. Call it whatever you want, but it’s a fact we have to acknowledge.
Vermont will have no effect on the presidential nominee or presidential election. However, the presidential nominee can have huge negative effect on local elections.
Focus on the state issues and politics and forget alienating candidates.
Keep running unelectable protest candidates and cheerfully and happily accept the election results. You shouldn’t complain because you got the outcome you expected.
Thanks Renee and I wholeheartedly agree with you on all points. Respecting and protecting life is number one and President Trump has proven in many ways that he puts American citizens who love this country first. He will always have my support! God bless Donald Trump!
Tom Arnold, why aren’t you running? You seem to have everything figured out.
“Flip flop”? How about a reality check AGAIN that in an email statement in the same article you cite, Malloy, “Per the US Constitution as a US Senator, I will vote to keep abortion issues decided at the state level.” Scott pledged not to implement gun control, and then did so after he was elected: THAT is a flip-flop. SMearhoff’s subtitle “waffling on abortion” is propaganda, not investigative journalism. Learn the difference.

Splish splash
In an interview with NBC5 in June, reporter Stewart Ledbetter pressed Malloy on the question: How would he vote on a nationwide abortion ban, with no exceptions, including in cases in which the mother’s life is in danger?
Malloy, who identifies himself as pro-life, dodged until he could no longer. Eventually, he said “I would, I would” vote yes on such a ban if it came up for a vote, but he added that he believed such a bill would be unlikely to reach the Senate floor.
Thankfully, for Malloy this issue has been settled.
Good question – who is running for Bernie’s seat other than Mr. Malloy for the GOP? Bernie is 82 years old now. Is the stench of The Biden too much to handle currently or the short straw pulling contest yet to happen? Time is running out to wage an enthusiastic campaign on multi-front wars, $34+ trillion national debt, recession, and wide open borders. Where are the candidates and why are they not boasting about their stellar performance record over the past three years?
Mr. Malloy: Average Vermonters couldn’t & can’t afford the last two years of this supermajority nor of this faux-republican governor’s kowtowing & bootlicking. The VT GOP OUGHT to be “on a path to a successful 2024” but they are not. As you well know from your familiarity with VDC, many Vermonters do not appreciate in the least Scott and Dame’s chronic condemnations of GOP POTUS frontrunner Donald Trump while this state simultaneously succumbs to Communism, and the rest of the Union is being equally decimated by the same psychotic political philosophies. Trump is simply NOT the problem nor are these ludicrous chastisements emanating from the B team adversely impacting his stronghold but are instead rather adversely impacting theirs.
It is not just Vermont’s future that does not look good, but its very present state of massive & now imminent tax increases, already implemented social programs, and the infringements upon Constitutional rights which aren’t “good” – and can never be sustained.
Further, with Dame at the helm (God help us) unwilling to cease from thrashing Trump AND who has been perpetually unwilling to fight fire with fire in terms of taking on these democrat-socialist’s in their quest to Communize VT by using CLEAR, CONCISE verbiage & proper names & photos of their adversaries in state-wide mailings, local TV ads, holding regularly-scheduled town meet & greets, and providing a cohesive, unified front – you will sadly, but assuredly be back here in 2026 with the exact same talking points – if, at that point, there still remains any opportunity for public political discourse, protest, or opposition at all.
So OF course, STAY the course, but without a sizeable expenditure of well-organized manpower, money, as well as utilization of some of the identical style of tactics these social engineers of the democrat party use to gain traction here, there will be limited hope of success.
We are blessed and fortunate to once again have Gerald Malloy as a VT GOP U.S. Senate candidate. His experience, integrity, and humility would be tough to match. Malloy represents a fresh, clear contrast to the status quo, which has seriously damaged our State. I appreciate Gerald Malloy’s experiential optimism. It is the sour pessimism and divisiveness expressed by Tom Arnold that drags the Republican party down.
You are right on Renee. Thinking people appreciate your insight and wisdom.
It’s right-wing extremists that are dragging the state party down. Trump’s endorsement is toxic here. So is his forced-birth stance – even among most Republicans. You want more balance? Try nominating someone who has a chance of winning in Vermont. Christina Nolan might have had a shot – this guy didn’t and doesn’t have a chance. (And blaming it on voter fraud is just delusional.) Tom Arnold is not expressing pessimism and divisiveness – he’s just being realistic.
Mark, what exactly is a “right wing extremist”? Calling people “extremist” isn’t at all divisive, now, is it? You are also blind to Malloy’s position, which is that abortion laws are up to the States, per the U.S. Constitution.
Mark – Like Liam Madden?
Malloy should say abortion is an issue to ne decided by the states and leave it at that.
Mark, as a woman – born n’ raised with DNA to prove it – I can tell you that there is RARELY such a thing as “forced” birth in the USA. As a woman, there are a # of “choices” one can make before ever being in a situation where a separate, distinct individual is developing within your body. The first is to not engage in intimate relations with a man unless & until you are prepared. The second is for the woman to utilize birth control methods. The third is for the man involved to instead/in addition utilize birth control. Human females are not known to be capable of reproducing through parthenogenesis. And the chances of becoming pregnant as a result of assault (females are only fertile anywhere from but a few hours to a maximum of a typically two to three days during each cycle wherein fertilization even those times is at the best a one in six chance) is infinitesimally small. No one is “forcing” birth upon anyone, but rather males & females are instead creating a state of pregnancy obviously without proper preparedness, at which point abortion, in many people’s opinions, should not be permitted as it ends (abortion per dictionary definition) the life of a fetus (unborn baby typically considered at the gestational age of 8 weeks of age & over as per dictionary definition).
Don’t allow left-wing extremists play you.
The RNC has sold its soul to Donald Trump. Good luck, Mr. Malloy.
WAY better than selling one’s soul to cultural Marxism, Communism, China, tyranny, and the W.E.F. the way the DNC has. Just gotta take the dude who purportedly “overinflated” his Real Estate property holdings despite the abject “horror” it all caused.
John, The RNC has never supported Donald Trump. Where have you been for the past eight years?
But the majority of republicans/conservative comprising the “we” of the “we the people” do. So where has he been the last eight years?
during the last election an agent for the u. s. fish and wild life stole my deploy malloy sign/// yes, i have his name/// beware of larger tracts of land being purchased by the silvio conte refuge/// united nations agenda/// public private partners///
At least he can reuse the scary eagle signs he never took down from the last drubbing. That is fiscal responsibility!
Gerald, thanks for standing in the breach again, you as Senator, are just what Vermont needs, I like your enthusiasm, but I don’t see Vermont’s GOP standing in the breach with you !!
And we know the RNC, won’t lend a hand either, they already have their bought and paid-for candidates, as our constitution and party don’t matter.
I was at the Barre Gun show a few weeks back, and I’m a seventy-two-year-old conservative Vermonter, with thousands of Vermonters showing their love for freedom for the Constitution’s ” 2nd Amendment ” I didn’t see any GOP
candidates trying to field votes for one candidate………… Pretty Pathetic Display.
Another lost opportunity, you know Vermont is infested with progressive anti-gun zealots in the statehouse, so if you are not front & center where conservatives are, to get them and their family to vote…………… I’m not sure if you stand a chance, they won’t vote and that’s what the DemocRATs rely on, you don’t have to like them, but they have a plan………….. Take note, Paul Dame
Now let’s see if the Vermont Republican party and RNC, want a true patriot, or do we keep the feckless clowns we have destroying the state and country !!!
Two Issues can bring you home, the Border Crisis and the state of the economy federal & state……………………….. Good Luck, you have my family’s votes.
No mention of the border? It’s our number one emergency in this country and I’m sure it was an oversight. And even moderates and some liberals agree it needs fixing.
I remember last week when we had a bipartisan deal to secure the border and Trump didn’t want something positive to happen on Biden’s watch, so he had his sheep torpedo the bill, so your leaders don’t see it as a crisis because they love the cheap labor.
We saw the “bipartisan” deal for what it was – Democrats trying to foist on Republicans the responsibility for the border disaster. This administration purposely caused this crisis and needs to pay the price.
Funny a Republican wrote the bill, we went over this week. Stand for nothing, fall for anything
I think it’s messed up that Malloy can be talking to kids about how there’s no climate. As he says this their homes may be floating not so merrily down the stream.
But then again, by the time he’s dead it won’t matter to him if he was wrong about it.
Wow!!!! There appears to be a whole lot of threatened & frightened people on VDC re: this announcement from Malloy.
Speaking of the hullabaloo……I thought the school’s mid-winter vacation was next week.
Nothing scarier to liberals than a conservative from out of state touting VT values who got 28% of the vote. Anyone want to bet $500 on the outcome of the Senate election, I’ll give you 4-1 odds
i need another malloy scary eagle sign///
Good luck ! I hope to be addressing you as Senator Malloy soon !
Vote Red, Red vote Red vote Red!
No RINO’S please!!
Send the liberal leftist Dem Swamp Rats 🐀 🐀 packing period folks!
Wake up Americans wake up Vermonters wake up!!
The problem with the republican party is too many democrats infiltrated it with the blessing of the RNC, McConnell and the media. As an example, the 20 ‘republicans’ that voted for the worse bill ever on super ball Sunday.
At least he has the nuts to run… I give the man credit because Id rather jab my eyes out with a spoon than deal with insane liberals all day. Best of luck Gerald.. Hopefully after the last few years people’s eyes are opening up to the damage Democrats / progressives have done to Vermont and the country as a whole. Godspeed!
