Letters: GOP primary is Mr. Thayer’s neighborhood, not Mr. Rodgers’

To the editor:

Hi, my name is Jay and I’m a Republican. On Tuesday, if you plan on voting in the Republican primary for Lt. Governor, it’s important that you vote for the only real Republican in the race.

Gregory Thayer has always been by our side; fighting the good fight and listening to the people.

I don’t think that you can spend a lifetime voting like a Democrat and suddenly declare you are a Republican without proof.

This Republican will be voting for Gregory Thayer for Lt. Governor. – Jay Shepard, Essex Jct.

To the Editor:

Are we in such a terrible position in the GOP that we would even consider voting for a democrat to represent us in the Lt. Governor’s race?  It’s bad enough we have a governor we has more support by democrats than by republicans so we need another one?  Who can understand what republican values stand for when there’s no example of it at all in a position of leadership?

As some of you might know I ran for governor against Phil Scott six years ago.  My goals included supporting true republicans and using the position to educate Vermonters what conservatism is about and why conservative values would make this state stronger.  Instead very few people even know what it means or why it’s the right way to govern.  For example many on the left and center consider a candidate with strong republican values an extremist and radical.  The majority see Donald Trump as a conservative.  Yes he shares some conservative values but is not a conservative.

I proposed when I ran and still believe that the LG position should be eliminated because it doesn’t serve enough of a purpose to justify the cost when we are being so burdened by taxes.  With that said why not work to elect someone with conservative values to use the position to help educate people what conservatism is all about?  Then for me the position does have some value and it may help get true republicans elected.

We see what putting a moderate up against a democrat has accomplished repeatedly, the latest being Joe Benning.  Why not try a different approach and give the voters a real choice and hope they see the advantage to trying a new approach?  If we’re successful the GOP will benefit greatly.

That is why I’m endorsing Greg Thayer for LG.  He has been a tireless promotor of conservative republican values.

My wife and I will be running for representatives in Springfield and I know we will benefit if we have a strong promotor of what being a republican is all about. – Keith Stern, North Springfield
