Sam Douglass told VDC this afternoon he submitted his resignation as Orleans County state senator to the office of Gov. Phil Scott via email on Friday.
Douglass, a Troy resident, confirmed to VDC the resignation had been sent, but that the administration appeared to be having difficulty with the correct procedure to accept it – hence the mistaken media reports that he had yet to resign. He has since made additional steps to clarify the situation in consultation with GOP leaders.
Douglass also stated that he was immediately put on administrative leave from his job after Politico published a news story on October 14 about statements allegedly made by Douglass on a Young Republicans Telegram chat. Douglass was employed by Lamoille County Mental Health, a state-funded organization.
He expressed appreciation for the “overwhelming number” of constituents who asked him to not resign and in general gave their support.
The abrupt loss of his full-time income, as well as the part-time income earned as a state senator, has left the Douglass family with little means of support, just weeks after their first child was born. Douglass said he plans to seek full-time employment and hopes to start another small business on the side. A Give Send Go page is seeking donations to support them.

His Give Send Go page indicates that his wife was fired also. What did she have to do with his remarks? It also states that he has suffered a barrage of hate mail, including death threats. This is appalling. In the meantime, a candidate in Maine has actual swastika tattoos and a candidate for Attorney General in Virginia has threatened to kill opponents including children and is still on the ballot. We seemingly can’t do anything about the gutless RINO’s but wee can help out this family. The goal on his Give Send Go page asks for a modest $30,000 yet as of this writing he has only received $1,996. Come on, Vermont Republicans, help this guy out.
Brianna Douglass told her husband that he shouldn’t be “expecting the Jew to be honest.” She, like her husband, has a right to free speech – but she does not have any right to be free of the consequences.

Mayor Emma’s food fund was created by friends and neighbors in an effort to help out two working parents.
Sam personally created this cash fund to support two unemployable parents.
His wife was chiming in with similar hateful rhetoric.
The key board thumpers want to follow this story, as it looks like it has a lot of loose ends. Now, if you work for the state and get fired does this mean you can never find another job????? Comment from Richard Day.
The only problem I can see is that he wasn’t smart enough to NOT be on these “chats” even an old fart like me knows better than to say something on the interweb and think nobody will know. He has the right to say anything he wants to …..but should he??
So it’s ok for our Senator to support and endorse a democrat in Maine with a nazi tattoo. But Douglas went too far….

Love the way you Maga’s seem to think what he did was ok and now feel like we should support him and his family. In your dreams! I am sure because the Repugs don’t believe in State assistance, like, WiC, Snap and Welfare benefits ,you wonderful people will make sure they are well taken care of right out of your own pockets, because, as you all whine about, Vermont is a Socialist State and we must never help our fellow Vermonters with taxpayer money. Oh yeah, we won’t help farmers or flood victims, etc, etc, as that would mean that we are becoming a Socialist State. God forbid!!
