How did YOUR town vote on anti-slavery amendment?

Prop 2 passed statewide by almost 8-1 vote

By Guy Page

On November 8, every Vermont city and town voted to amended the state constitution to prohibit slavery and indentured servitude.

Although presented in the Vermont Legislature as removing the last vestiges of pre-Civil War slavery from the state constitution, Proposal 2/Article 1 also was supported by criminal justice reform advocates who liken present-day incarceration to slavery.

Of the 291,955 ballots cast, 238,466 were filled in with a Yes vote, 30,335 No, 420 were ‘overvotes’ (discounted for voting both yes and no), and 22,734 were left blank.

The ratio of Yes to No votes was 7.86/1, more than twice the 3.31/1 ratio of Yes/No votes cast for Prop 5/Article 22, the ‘reproductive liberty’ amendment. However the 22,734 blank votes for Proposal 2 were almost 50% higher than the 15,340 for Prop 5, indicating possibly less knowledge about or more indifference to Prop 2 compared to Prop 5.

As with Prop 5, the heavily-Democratic, college staff bedroom town of Norwich had the highest Yes/No ratio: 26.3/1. Montpelier was about 19/1.

The following is a town-by-town vote count on Proposal 2:

  1. Hardly any Vermonters knew what this amendment was genuinely about thanks to “DISinformation” promulgated by Planned Parenthood, PBS, and a variety of other sources. I’m betting if you asked, most voters were under the impression that they were voting for abortion to remain legal in VT “in spite of” the SCOTUS decision which they also mistakenly believed ended the “right” to abortion nationwide.

Voter ignorance is alive & well in Vermont and fueled now by a “news” media that routinely deals in omission of facts and massive misinformation campaigns.

The free press is dead. The press is controlled by the DNC and the DNC is led by radical activists and Communist/Marxist extremists.

The USA will never recover fully (maybe not even partially) from the tactics it has been subjected to by those who push for globalism and Communism; those who have illegally opened our borders, are installing Marxism, and who FIX elections – even on local levels; I saw it done with my own eyes years ago here in Vermont.

    We are likely done.

  2. Sadly, Vermont residents cannot or will not study any documents in front of them and vote with their emotions not their brains. This is how things started in 1930’s Germany.

  3. Although admonished not to so do, I must mention the former candidate for State Office, either treasurer or assistant treasurer, Marina Brown admonished me that a particular man in Newport was “evil” because he worked at a prison. One of the agendas of Green Mountain Peace and Justice Party would appear to be to use violent criminals to keep the rest of us controlled and terrorized.
I dissented. I was admonished for breaking “consensus”. Any questions which I asked were answered with evasion, falsehood, and more admonishment. In official meetings, as I recall, Brown actually made the decisions. This is more than a personal dispute. It seems that Bernie Sanders left that Party not merely to gain advantage as a Democrat, but at the utter extremity of their views and actual intentions and policies. They are analogous to the Brownshirts of the National Socialist Party,. Now it seems that prisoners will be weaponized.
We need to understand just how extreme “respectable” people can be.

    • Mr. French: History is always more complicated than we’re led to believe by those who write it. And that includes this Europa: The Last Battle rendition.

In my experience, historical references become more suspect in proportion to the length of time between an event and its recollection. On the other hand, the time period covered by this so-called documentary series is but the blink of an eye compared to human history overall. This rendition, while enlightening in certain aspects, is little more than listening to two geriatric siblings arguing over their recollection of an argument they had during a Thanksgiving dinner half a century ago.

Are the assessments of human nature accurate? They seem to be. It is difficult to overstate man’s inhumanity to man – in any time period. And it’s folly to think that the man with the gold doesn’t make the rules, be it today, yesterday, or 1000 years ago.

If anything is constant and predictable, it is human behavior. And this account, Europa: The Last Battle, provides no additional enlightenment in that regard. It finger-points, as humans are inclined to do, especially in times of stress, whatever the cause, circumstance, or historical reference. It’s tribal. Because humans remain inherently tribal.

One of my uncles was a WWII Marine, wounded on Iwo Jima. And we used to talk about Robert Stinnett’s book, Day of Deceit, and the possibility that FDR provoked the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in order to get the U. S. Congress to declare war. In the greater scheme of things, it was a minor detail. WWII was inevitable.

Yes, a new world order is being brewed by those with the hubris to think their current scheming is more significant than that of those who preceded them. Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Genghis Khan, Salah al-Din, Washington, Napolean and Churchill, FDR, Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. The list is long. And, if anything, conflict remains inevitable, despite the utopian promises of our handlers.

Europa: The Last Battle is no different. Yes, no matter who has it, the man with the gold still makes the rules. But the lesson to be learned is that you don’t have to have the gold to play by the rules, whatever they are. And you don’t have to have the gold to play well either.

  4. It’s possible that there’s some slavery in Vermont. For example, I’m willing to bet the “employees” of many an Asian restaurant in VT work all day every day because they lack the legal means to work for anyone else. This amendment wasn’t about them. It didn’t appear to be about any problem at all, and my assumption is that it was an opening gambit for some flavor of prison reform.
I say move ahead. The US is the most prison-happy country on the planet, and it doesn’t appear to actually work. Singapore seems nice. I say we try caning.

    • It is about loosing criminality in order to break down order and promote revolution. As is disarming the police.

  5. vermont never had slaves and bringing up this subject is wrong in so many ways . there are enough topics to discuss without stirring a pot we never had .
