Republicans gunning for Senate seats now held by Democrats have raised considerable funds for the coming campaign.
In deep-blue Windsor County, Andrea Murray has raised $13,772, about $2000 less than the top-fundraising Democrat incumbent Allison Clarkson and $6000 more than incumbent Becca White.
Also, in blue Bennington County, GOP Senate candidate Joe Gervais raised $13,369 through July. Neither Democrat incumbent will take the oath of office next January; Sen. Richard Sears pass3d away, and Sen. Brian Campion opted to not run again.⁰
In more ‘purple’ Caledonia County, incumbent Dem. Jane Kitchell is not seeking re-election. Rep. Scott Beck (R-St. Johnsbury) has raised $48,560, about three times as much cash as the likely Democrat nominee, non-profit executive Amanda Cochrane ($16,369).
Beck, a leading voice in the House and the House Ways & Means Committee for controlling school spending and tax reduction, also has authored newspaper commentaries criticizing the current supermajority for “14% property tax increase without reform, $17B Clean Heat Standard, $1B Renewable Energy Standard, and a whole host of other really damaging legislation.” He has the backing of Gov. Phil Scott.
Beck is running in a contested primary against J.T. Dodge, a 2022 Senate candidate and longtime opponent of the Democrat Legislature’s climate change initiatives. He has raised $1,125.
In a Senate district across the state on Lake Champlain, another fiscal hawk Republican House member supported by Gov. Phil Scott is seeking a Senate seat held for many years by friend, fellow Malletts Bay grocery store owner, and centrist Democrat Richard Mazza.
The Colchester-Grand Isle Senate seat is being sought by Rep. Pat Brennan (R-Colchester), a former Malletts Bay grocery store owner. Mazza passed away this spring shortly after resigning his Senate seat. Brennan has $38,304, well ahead of the two Democrats in the primary: appointed incumbent Andrew Julow of Grand Isle ($12,133) and Julie Hulburd ($7,336) of Colchester.
In Orleans County, where incumbent centrist Democrat Bobby Starr is not seeking re-election, Democrat Rep. Katherine Sims has a strong fundraising lead ($46,296) over GOP primary candidates Sam Douglass ($7,123) and Aimee Conrad Bellevance ($3,400).
GOP Senate candidate in Washington County Donald Koch has raised $3,120.
In counties with contested primaries, many large donors await the outcome of their party primaries before writing big checks for the general election.

Vermont-GOP, here are your chances to start saving the state from its progressive nonsense…………… too bad Burlington the Chittenden country cesspool is a lost cause.
Vermont-GOP keep up the momentum, people are getting sick of the nonsense !!
I agree, . . . one would think the county with the largest population (Chittenden) there would be more real GOP contenders. Perhaps, out of frustration most moved on, or got tired of the uphill battle.
Be sure to check if your candidate is a graduate of the super-far-left candidate training camp Emerge Vermont.
Julie Hurlburd poses as a “moderate” and so will Katherine Sims.
Emerge USA was founded by Kamala Harris….their graduates are listed at https://vt.emergeamerica.org/
A host of GOP’ers (purportedly) running in November, yet there is but a modest, at best, chance to win the minimum six seats necessary to save Vermont from the insane UNaffordable Heat Act or S.5. which will inevitably, decidedly, and finally destroy what is left of this state if it proceeds.
What does this tell Vermont residents about the ineffectiveness and impotency of the VT GOP under the “leadership” of Paul Dame which keeps as low a public profile as any political organization can and underfunds its candidates?
