Joe Gervais of Arlington has ended his bid for chair of the Vermont Republican Party and endorsed Sen. Russ Ingalls of Essex District in the upcoming leadership contest. Ingalls is challenging incumbent Chair Paul Dame at the state party convention on November 8.

Gervais said Tuesday afternoon his decision followed a discussion with Ingalls about the future direction of the Vermont GOP.

“After speaking with Russ, it is clear that we have a fearless advocate with the vision needed to lead our Party into 2026 and beyond,” Gervais said. He emphasized the need for unity and grassroots empowerment within the party, adding that he is confident Ingalls will “build a strong team to bring about this change and raise our Party’s success to the next level.”

Gervais said he will continue to serve as Bennington County Republican Chair and Chair of Chairs for the VTGOP, working alongside Ingalls if he is elected.

Ingalls thanked Gervais for his endorsement and his decision to focus on party unity. “I thank Joe for his endorsement and his support in this race going forward,” Ingalls said. “I know that his community and our state will be well served with his continued involvement.”

The state GOP chair election will take place November 8 during the Vermont Republican Party convention.
