The future owner of the former Green Mountain College campus in Poultney is holding an open house this week, reports Seven Days. Tommie Zito plans to use it for a global evangelical school called Z University.
Zito takes over from Raj Bhakta whose redevelopment project of the college campus failed to move forward as he bumped heads with state regulators.
“Zito said he hopes to surround himself with experts in higher education,” the Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month. ‘I don’t know that much about building a university,’ he said.”

Last thing in the world we need is more religious fanatics coming here and spreading their manure for unthinking fools to roll in, like a mongrel dog. For all of me, this is not welcome.

I believe there was a stipulation that readers who reply to aforementioned articles are to use their real name. Was, I guess. Anyway, g2-4, try reading The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, who, like me, was an atheist. He tried to disprove Christianity with his big brain as a prize winning reporter for the Chicago Tribune. I do not have a big brain, but do know that one isnt required to commit intellectual suicie to believe that Jesus Christ is indeed the Son of God. Even Evil Kneivel was daring enough to come to believe, and leave his Godless belief system in the dust. I think it was Plato who said that there are no atheists on their deathbeds. In Psalms, 14:1 King David wrote, “Only a fool believes there is no God.”
I know Christianity has its faults, like money rubbing tele-evangelists, etc., but Jesus isn’t Christianity. What if there really is a Heaven and a Hell? If I’m wrong and there is no God and two places to go for eternity, I will probably not be conscious, anyway, just dead. But if I am correct in my world view, you and I are both looking at judgement after death.

I don’t accept Jesus as my Messiah. I do believe that he can be such to his followers. I also respect him as a human.

@phantomroseexpress, I had a rabbi friend explain the Messiah thusly:

Maybe he’ll even say “You’re BOTH right!” and laugh with us!
I know Tommie Zito personally and yes, he is the real deal. Jesus Christ died on that cross for everyone, even if you were the only person on earth Jesus still would have died just for you. Whether you believe in Jesus or not that is your choice but come to the end of your life you have two choices Heaven or Hell, and yes, they are real also. The heart of Tommie Zito is right from the scripture itself. In Mark 16:11 Jesus tells his disciples to ‘Go into all the World and preach the Gospel to all creation. Tommie does just that, he goes literally all over the world. John 3:16 tells us, ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life’. Romans 10: 9-10 says if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. That is exactly what Tommie does, go out and teach people and equip others to go out into all the world and preach the gospel. So, before you judge what you know nothing about, try reading Tommie’s story instead of condemning what he is doing, pray for him and learn about just how lifesaving and life changing a relationship with Jesus Christ can bring you. I guess one question for you people who is judging this man or his calling is this, If you were to die today are you 100% sure of where you would spend eternity? We are not promised tomorrow so think about that before judging others.
If, indeed, you are telling facts. It all remains to be seen.
Obviously commenters can’t win any debates over theologies; isn’t the whole point that a vacant and decrepit campus will now be occupied and operational, giving life to the facility? No occupant will please everyone; you don’t have to buy what they are selling. But at least it will be open and functional.
There’s something about this deal that doesn’t pass the sniff test.
I hope the Poultney selectboard keeps a sharp eye on this endeavor…
