The Vermont Republican Party honored four legislators Thursday night during its annual VTGOP Awards Night, recognizing their leadership and contributions to both the caucus and their communities.
The awards were presented during a celebration in South Burlington attended by party members, supporters, and elected officials.
The night’s guest speaker was Erick Erickson of Georgia, a syndicated radio show host on 56 affiliates. In 2024 he organized “The Gathering,” which attracted 1,000 attendees from 47 states to hear from key Republican figures like Mike Pence, Ron DeSantis, and Mitch McConnell.
Rep. Rob North of Ferrisburgh received the Rookie of the Year award, which goes to a freshman legislator who has made significant contributions to the Republican caucus.
Rep. Pattie McCoy of Poultney, the House Minority Leader, was named the George Schiavone Legislator of the Year, an award chosen by peers to recognize significant legislative achievement.
Rep. Chris Taylor of Milton earned the Don Turner “Local Leader” of the Year award for demonstrating outstanding leadership at the town and municipal level. Turner, the former House Minority Leader, died in 2024. A longtime firefighter and chief, he was also the Milton town manager, a position now held by Taylor.
Rep. Mike Tagliavia of Corinth received the People’s Choice Award, voted on by Republicans across Vermont to honor a current legislator who stands out among their colleagues. The freshman co-sponsored several high-profile bills and hosts a podcast, The Right Side.

I had the pleasure of attending this awards night on Thursday, and I’m so proud of our Vermont Republican Legislators — they’re doing incredible work. Congratulations to all of the deserving winners! A sincere thank you to all our GOP State Representatives and Senators for your dedication and service on behalf of Vermonters.
Two of the key takeaways for me came from Lt. Gov. John Rodgers and Erick Erickson — both emphasized how urgent it is that we address Vermont’s affordability crisis, and how Republican leadership is needed to deliver real solutions.
We have a mess to clean up after many years of failed policies from the Democrat/Progressive machine, but solutions are absolutely attainable. Please support legislators and candidates who believe in fiscal responsibility and common-sense legislation.
While I commend those Vermont legislators who were honored the other night for stepping up to lead and serve, the elephant in the room, amidst all the praises, is why our state with an ostensibly “Republican” governor continues to elect and appoint outrageously Leftist legislators and officials who act as Democrats and Progressives and betray and defy the Trump administration at nearly every turn.
And to include Mike Pence and Mitch McConnell in this conversation is almost sickening. Why would I want to hear what they have to say? How are they at all relevant? Aren’t they RINOs like Phil Scott? Haven’t they betrayed the Republican Party enough?
What am I missing here?
