Overcoming serious challengers, all the Chittenden County incumbents who ran for office were renominated in the August 11 Democratic primary: Martin Larocque Gulick and Tanya Vyhovsky in Chittenden Central, and Tom Chittenden, Kesha Ram Hinsdale, and Ginny Lyons. 

Phil Baruth’s longheld slot in the Central district will be held in November by newcomer and UVM professor Nikil Goyal, who outraised all other senate candidates and was the only candidate in either district to reach the 20% threshold.

In Washington County, incumbents Andy Perchlik, Ann Cummings, and Anne Watson held off a challenge by businessman Gabe Lajeunesse. 

In Bennington County incumbents Seth Bongartz and Rob Plunkett also held on to their nominations against challenger Amy Moore. 

In Windsor County, incumbents Rebecca White and Joe Major took the top two spots in the six person race, with Rep. Elizabeth Burrows taking the third spot in the three-person district. 

House races, however, saw a pair of incumbents replaced. John Bartholomew of Windsor and Jim Masland both finished third in their two-seat district primaries. All of the other incumbent House candidates in contested primaries were renominated.
