Part One in a two-part series on Rutland races for the House of Representatives. Tomorrow, a report on the son of a Vermont governor running for the State House.
By Guy Page
A Democrat challenging a Republican for an open Rutland House seat works for the group that is suing the State of Vermont for failure to meet carbon emission reduction goals.
Anna Tadio is a staff attorney for the Vermont Conservation Law Foundation, which has filed suit against the State of Vermont for failure to make sufficient progress on meeting its mandated carbon reduction goals. The CLF site says she most recently worked as an immigration attorney for the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants.
Tadio and Republican Chris Howland are seeking the Rutland-4 House seat vacated by Republican Paul Clifford, a steadfast opponent of carbon emissions control legislation. [An earlier version of this story mistakenly reported Clifford was seeking re-election. We regret the error. – Ed]
As reported by VDC in September, Last month, the Conservation Law Foundation “filed a lawsuit against Vermont’s Secretary of the Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) for not fulfilling her legal obligations under the Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA), which is critical for keeping the state on track to reduce harmful emissions contributing to climate change.”
The lawsuit was made possible by a controversial provision in the Global Warming Solutions Act in 2020. The bill gave private parties (including activist lawyers like CLF’) the explicit right to sue the State state for not meeting the law’s aggressive carbon goals.
Tadio is one of the few Democratic House candidates who responded with a ‘Yes’ to a VDC survey question polling their likely vote on an upcoming vote next year on implementing the so-called Affordable Heat Act, which passed with Supermajority and CLF support last year. The law would create a ‘carbon tax’ as a way of paying for transition from fossil-fuel to electricity-based heating.
Tadio’s campaign website states that she is an attorney but does not mention her current employer. Instead, it states: “She most recently worked as a Senior Staff Attorney for the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants where she primarily served Afghan and Ukrainian asylum seekers and refugees.”
Neither does her campaign website section on climate change discuss the GWSA or the Affordable Heating Act or any other move towards carbon taxation. Here’s what her website says:
“Climate change affects us all. Every summer is hotter than the last and this impacts our health, our food systems, and our economy. We need to prepare for increased storm frequency and for more dramatic changes in weather patterns. We can provide subsidies for people to weatherize and insulate their homes which will help prevent further greenhouse gas emissions and will help people save on their heating bills in the winter.”
VDC has asked CLF via email if Tadio will continue to work for CLF if elected to the House. A response will be published when received.

Does anyone see the irony of someone working for an organization that’s suing the State of Vermont wanting to be a State Representative of the same state she’s involved in suing? Can you say “conflict of interest”? Goodness, gracious!
It might be of interest to note that, according to her Linkedin profile, Ms Tadio graduated from UVM in 2013. While there, she worked as an intern for Greenpeace in 2011, Senator Bernie Sanders in 2012, and State Representative Jill Krowinski in 2013. It appears she then moved to Oregon in 2014, where she worked a variety of environmental law positions, although she didn’t receive her law degree (in environmental law) until 2020, when she then resurfaced in Rutland.
Looking between the lines, it appears what we have here is someone who has never stayed in any position for more than two years or a bit more, with every move up the ladder to a position of greater visibility, and likely responsibility as well.
In other words, her career arc looks exactly like that of a wannabe career politician. A wannabe demonrat career politician.
Ms Tadio may be looking for a Rutland House seat now (and I advise against allowing her to achieve that goal), but I guarantee probably sooner rather than later she’ll resurface in the Burlington or Montpelier areas looking for even more power and control. It’s the demonrat drug of choice.
Beware this profile. I’ve seen it hundreds of times before (yeah, I’ve been around awhile). Proceed at your own risk.

Correction; Her name is Tadio not Radio.
To make it simple, Anna Tadio, an Emerge candidate, has ALREADY deceived and betrayed her potential constituents by hiding her position at the Vermont Conservation Law Foundation! She MUST withdraw her candidacy and save her honor.
Just what we need, another mindless attorney. Guess she wants that over bloated salary, being easy street without working and become part of the stupid majority. Think of Jack Smith when you think of her. No trust in that person.
Their all one big happy family involved in the elite welfare state.
Save her honor? What honor? This is a clear conflict of interest—a serious breach of ethics. I hope the people of Rutland solve this problem in November 5 so other authorities don’t have to spend time teaching her what any competent attorney would know!
Anna Tadio’s potential election is not the only conflict of interest related to the Conservation Law Foundation Vermont. As previously noted here on VDC, the daughter of VT Washington-6 district Representative, Marc Mihaly (D), Elena Mihaly, is vice president of the Conservation Law Foundation Vermont. She is the one ramrodding the carbon emissions lawsuit against the State. And Rep. Mihaly recently claimed on his web site that “The Renewable Energy Standard will save us billions of dollars over the next 10 years”.
Go figure.
I guess they’ve tapped Anna Tadio to try to strengthen the corrupt super-majority. If this isn’t reason enough to vote for Chris Howland, I don’t know what is.
Imagine that! Another special interest in Green energy seeking to control the state. What she fails to see is that Vermont is already doing it’s part and has the best air quality in the country yet to people like her it isn’t good enough! She also thinks the price tag should be burdening us working folk. Anna, go away please and thank you.
No ethics…………………. just what we need !!
Pardon my language, but are you effing kidding me?? I’m sure there are stupid or ill informed people who will vote for her. What a shame.
A definite conflict of interest to even allow her to run. At the same time, let’s pull the CLF’s non profit status….
Hmmmm, sounds like a conflict of interest to me. Let’s hope the electorate is smart enough to see that…I know that’s a BIG ask!!!
Ah ha. The real culprit is the Democrat Legislature for allowing legislation allowing folks to sue the state for not attaining unattainable goals. What were they thinking??!
Well, yes. But (speaking of culprits) the ‘real’ offense is that the Dem/Prog Legislature enacted unattainable goals in the first place. And that they did so under false pretense makes them doubly offensive.
Article 9: Vermont Constitution
“…previous to any law being made to raise a tax, the purpose for which it is to be raised ought to appear evident to the Legislature to be of more service to community than the money would be if not collected.”
This is an interesting read: “S. 171 (adopted May 4, 2022; effective July 1, 2022): An act related to the adoption of a State Code of Ethics, providing public servants in the three branches of government a clear baseline for ethical conduct in the performance of their duties. “
I would suggest suing these legislators for their offenses. But while our judicial system can cut both ways, not only is the Legislature corrupt, so too (IMHO) is the Vermont Judiciary. Today the legal precedent seems to be; if we don’t prosecute an offense, no offense is deemed to have occurred. Never mind the ‘evidence’. It’s typically deemed to be ‘inadmissible’, which creates yet another level of plausible deniability.
In the final analysis:
“…while it may be true that morality cannot be legislated, behavior can be regulated. It may be true that the law cannot change the heart, but it can restrain the heartless. It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that is pretty important, also.” – MLK
I would challenge every representative or senator, candidate or incumbent, municipal or town official, has glaring conflicts of interest known and unknown. How many boards and task forces are they involved in that legislate and dictate policy? How many corporations or wealthy activitists donate to legislate and for reciprical board, commission or task force appointments? How many are compensated for their participation, as private sector or public employees, to further the agenda when no one voted for them or their policies?
I challenge that they are all connected, they are all part and parcel of the giant grift, they are all friends, associates, in-laws, and outlaws. Vermont is a small, poor State which makes it ripe for harvesting every asset and resource not nailed down…they’ll pry the rest loose after the selection season – hogs at the trough.
This was written 2 years ago, but much still applies. Bill Bonner looked at two runaway cars ready to derail us in a manner that will affect everyone soon. They are inflation driven by diesel fuel and gas shortages that readily affects the supermarkets and other products getting to the shelves. The other is governmental pressures to reach net zero emissions that is prohibitively expensive and unproductive.
He works with Lomborg, acclaimed as one of the top 100 global thinkers who analyzes New Zealands net zero emission efforts. The cost to attempt to cut in half their emissions would cost $19 billion each year until 2050 = to what their entire educational and health care budgets. To get the other half of the zero emission by 2050 would cost much more – more than their entire budget. AND the decrease on world temperature for all their hard efforts would be a mere decrease of
0.004 degrees F.
It will bankrupt the country and make no significant difference in global warning.
For the US to follow this path, it would cost $5 trillion dollars annually. (This is the course that the Democrats are leading America.)
Green energy mandates will cost trillions of dollars, and in their current form will do almost nothing to prevent global warming. And yet that is what is being pushed – by the Elite caste of America – mainstream media, governmental leaders, corporate America, and Hollywood…
Erlich and Gore pushed related agendas in their days and made their multi-millions. Bill and others of The National Taxpayers Union sought to bring set some limits. First they sought to control governmental waste spending, but leaders wanted their pork barrel projects. Then they sought to set limits on tax dollars but the leaders went to borrowing funds intended for the future. That’s what led Bill to sue the US government for stealing from the children’s future and came up empty handed.
Bill left the US and set up a series of businesses globally worth $3 billion. He bought a large ranch in Argentina and experienced first hand the issues of a dysfunctional government midst super inflation. Sadly the same issues are taking hold in America. INFLATION and GOVERNMENT PRESSURES for net zero emissions – the combination will create America’s Nightmare Winter.
The Democrats with their net-zero emissions are taking us to a cliff that will bankrupt us and produce inflation, hunger, and cold winters. This is what their gas taxes are leading us to.

Shameless elites. Next thing you know, legislators will dress in drag and entice children with sexualized paraplegic antics to “teach them to read.” We must need some more out of states to “help us” save the world. Even if she wins she is a loser.
What a wacky nonsequitar. Do you lay awake at night worrying about legislators in drag? Do you expect anyone to ever take you seriously again?
