Coordinated, brazen retail theft hits Kohl’s

By Guy Page

Police are asking for help identifying three individuals involved in a brazen retail theft at Kohl’s in the Berlin Mall on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Berlin Police Department, the incident occurred at about 3 PM on April 12, when three individuals entered the store, filled shopping carts with merchandise, and then exited without attempting to pay.

Police say the suspects left the store with full carts of items in what appears to have been a coordinated effort.

The department noted that the theft is part of a broader uptick in shoplifting incidents in the area, raising concerns among local businesses and law enforcement. Officials say retail theft not only impacts store operations but can also lead to increased prices for consumers and place additional strain on community resources.

Authorities have released photographs of the individuals involved and are urging anyone who may recognize them to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Berlin Police Department at (802) 223-4401.

  1. Big city solutions bring big city issues like clock work. It matters not the color of your skin, we are turning Vermont into a country ghetto, crime, drugs, homelessness and living off the free government subsidies. President Johnson, knowingly set up our brothers and sisters on the road to hell, this is our current path in Vermont.

  2. A former security guard at a Chittenden county shopping center told me the numbers of incidences of retail theft reported to the town police were understated in the town police crime reports.

    • And the number of incidents that even get reported are lower still. Why bother filling out paperwork when the State’s Attorney considers thievery a “human right”…

    • Most of the criminal activity isn’t even reported, loss prevention often accepts recovery as the sole remedy, no police reports what so ever. Stores have to hire a full time loss prevention person, which usually indicates losses in excess of 100k per store per year. The actual numbers are likely far higher. It is staggering, yet Montpelier does NOTHING!!!!!!!

  3. Next time you hear someone with Trump Derangement Syndrome complain about him not doing enough to curb inflation, be sure to remind them that one significant driver for the cost of retail goods is accommodating loss due to organized theft. Also be sure to remind them that it is democrat-run jurisdictions that refuse to take the prosecution of retail theft seriously.

  4. Years ago, my wife and I along with my granddaughter, who was around 6 or 7 at the time, stopped at a Dollar General, on our way home my granddaughter pulls out a candy bar. Where did you get that I asked, I took it from the store. Welllll, I turned that car around headed back to the store, made her return the candy bar and made her apologize to the clerk, the clerk was amazed! It’s called a life lesson! Unfortunately, these people apparently never had any life lessons and have no respect for what is right or wrong nor does the state’s attorney general!!!!!

    • I went through that same Life Lesson as your granddaughter did, about the same age also. Last.time.ever!!

  5. So it’s time for people to stand up if the law is not going to. Shoot them first and then ask questions later. Make an example of these losers and the rest of them will think twice before they do it. It’s time for people to start protecting themselves from these idiots that are running rampant

    • Kenneth, I agree with your comment; however, I have heard that some stores will not allow (and fire) employees for attempting to stop a shoplifter.

    • Most large retailers strictly prohibit their employees from following thieves out of the store entry out of liability concerns. After the 9-11 attacks, airports were heavily modified to accommodate new security protocols. It would be a nice fantasy to see big box stores incorporate a dual set of entryway doors with a vestibule that can lock the doors to trap thieves on the way out with their booty and gas them with pepper spray. It would provide some good entertainment for the rest of the shoppers and for youtube videos.
