Connecticut man wanted for drug-related murder busted in Vernon

A 26-year-old man from Connecticut wanted in a drug-related killing was arrested in Vernon November 17.

Police say they took Shawn Santoro, of Windsor, CT, into custody at a home on Bemis Road at around 9:30 a.m. According to Brattleboro media reports, Santoro later agreed to return to Connecticut to face charges there.

Santoro is charged with shooting Raymond Lewis on Oct. 21 in Hartford.

According to Connecticut news reports, Raymond Lewis, 54, died on October 4, the 32nd murder in Hartford for 2022. He died by gunshot at 3:40 a.m. in an argument with Santoro over drug selling territory, court records reportedly say. After witnesses identified Santoro, a warrant was quickly issued for his arrest.

Santoro had a full extraditable warrant out of Connecticut for murder. Santoro was brought to the Westminster barracks where he was turned over to the Vermont State Police. He reportedly waived extradition from jail and will be reclaimed by Connecticut authorities within two weeks.
