As a proud, independent Vermonter unaffiliated with any political party, I have quietly watched the first 100 days of President Trump’s presidency, and noticed a pattern of actions which should trouble all Vermonters who believe in the separation of power between our three branches of government and the rule of law as written into the US Constitution.
From his first day in office President Trump used disinformation and lies, appealing to fear and hate to justify his words and executive actions, and I did not speak out enough because I believed people would not believe his lies and “alternative facts” once the President took office. I was wrong.
Then, Trump’s MAGA Party took over the entire Republican Party and enforced internal party discipline by using political threats and intimidation to stamp out all dissent, and I did not speak out because I thought experienced and wiser politicians would return the Party to its historical roots, values, and traditions. They did not.
Then they centralized their power by destroying the civil service and some departments, appointing agency and department heads loyal to the MAGA Party, and I did not speak out because I believed that purging would not last and the nation would not be able to function without our government systems in place. The purging has continued with little forceful opposition.
Then they took over the US Congress and the Courts, eliminating the checks and balances between the three branches of our government, and I did not speak out because I believed eventually the Supreme Court would restore our historical constitutional order. I was wrong.
Then they started to deport immigrants claiming an invasion, and I did not speak out because I believed the fifth and fourteenth amendments would protect these individuals with their constitutionally required due process and habeas corpus.
Then they started to threaten academic institutions pretending to fight against anti-Semitism, when what they really wanted to do was to silence the intellectual criticism of their party rulers, and I did not speak out because I believed those universities would join together and push back in force to protect their first amendment rights for free speech regardless of the issue. They did not.
Then they began to deny visas to foreigners who wished to study, work in, or visit America, and I did not speak out because at that time, I did not realize how important that work force was to our economy, to the entrepreneurial spirit of America, and to our international reputation as a welcoming nation. That was my error in judgment.
They preserved a tax system that benefited loyal, wealthy, party donors, and told the citizenry tax cuts were good for the economy and for job creation, and I did not speak out enough again, because I always paid my taxes without thinking about the national deficit, and how the decimated and underfunded IRS has never been able to keep up with billionaire tax cheats anyway. That was another mistake.
They continued to call the climate crisis a hoax and rolled back environmental protections to support more fossil fuel energy exploration and use, and I did not speak out because I thought no one would deny the facts of science telling us that the world is warming at a catastrophic pace.
Then they began to violate our first amendment rights by suggesting Christianity become the evangelical religion of America, and I did not speak out because I believed no one would want America to become like other religiously driven nations where people lived under one national religion to remain a legal citizen of that country.
Now they are pressuring major law firms to acquiesce to the demands from the administration to not defend cases in Appellate Courts, and I have not spoken out because I figured lawyers had taken an oath to uphold the law without political influence.
Recently they have begun to threaten the press and media outlets by denying federal funding supports, by not renewing FCC licenses, and by not inviting some to press conferences, and I have not spoken out because I believed the press would always remain a powerful and influential independent arm of our government, never to be controlled by one party.
Now they are talking about creating a list of “enemies of the state,” including those who protested, resisted and been critical of the President’s executive actions, and I am beginning to realize that for some, speaking out might be seen as a risk, and just the idea if a “list” would silence many.
Today, I realize America is quickly evolving into a country we may no longer recognize. Enough is enough. I have spoken out but should have much sooner. There must be other patriotic Vermonters, who love our country, and are as deeply concerned, as I am. Where are you? This too, will not pass. It could be permanent.
Dictators love silence. It’s their license to continue consolidating their power to enrich their family and friends. Foreign real estate deals, manipulating the stock market with multiple tariff announcements, and gifts like a new jet are only the beginning. MAGA will not “Make America Great Again,” but it will “Make Trump Wealthy Again” (MTWA). The President is all about himself, not America.
Speak out now, before it is too late.

It would appear they merely followed the Progressive Playbook that toppled Vermont. Where were you when that happened?
TDS much?
Other people being duped really does not bother me much, you are what you are. But when other people assume that I am as easily duped as people like this tool, that bothers me. Does the air smell funny where your head is at ?
Cry me a river.
And he calls himself independent, however there is not an independent thought or argument in his diatribe, it’s nothing short of an msnbc Rachel Madow segment.
Could he mention any good thing done? Of course not as that would go against his tds thoughts, he’s got it so bad he convinced himself he’s independent.
Bossange is an Independent, he’s an Independent Communist.
Boinie calls himself an Independent too. The fact is, most “I”s are left of Dems ! Wackos !
Sounds like a severe case of TDS from Bossange, as he states as a proud,
independent Vermonter unaffiliated with any political party, surely you jest.
I assume he was front and center with all Biden administration endeavors, even though he states he’s an independent, kind of like the same BS we hear from Bernie Sanders and we all know where he stands, Independent………….. now that’s funny !!
Interesting the day the audio of Robert Hur’s interview with Joe Biden was released for all the world to hear – later that day, Joe’s “office” releases he suddenly has stage four cancer. A medical doctor discloses to MSDNC’s Joe Scarborough that such a condition was likely ongoing for years before – while Biden was President of the United States. (Trust the science!) What did we hear all through Joe’s reign? He is physically fit and sharp as a tack! Actually, he was as sharp as a marble.
CNN’s Jake Tapper releasing a book exposing the dirty cover up of Joe’s decline – a decline so severe it is further evidence that he was was not fit to be President of the USA after all? The truth is he was an empty, disease-ridden meat puppet afterall. So, the question remains, who was actually running the business of the United State of America for those four years? How many of our so-called leaders knew about this all along? Looking at you Congress, State Governors, US Military, and SCOTUS! National security? There is none – it is all an illusion.
There is no business like show business. There is no business like turning the United States into a real banana Republic and it started decades ago. Until people like Mr. Bossange snap out their delusions, nothing will change – it is only going to get worse.
They are now investigating if Biden’s EO’s were rubber stamped. Strongly suggest ‘Doctor” Jill as learned controlled much of what was being produced out of the WH. She was a Hildabeast troll lap dog. She protected Old Joe, so she could stay in power. CNN loved to address Jilda as being “Doctor” and smiled saying so. She didn’t observe Joseph’s medical results very closely, for years. Shows how caring she truly was.
John Bossange now wants to be the Communist version Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
All this guy does is spout the usual Progressive Communist propaganda.
Re: Then they took over the US Congress and the Courts, eliminating the checks and balances between the three branches of our government, and I did not speak out because I believed eventually the Supreme Court would restore our historical constitutional order. I was wrong.
So, John it was Trump who wanted to stack the courts and stack the Supreme Court.

And of course there’s this: At 8:05 into this video Chuck Schumer says that the Democrats put 235 “Progressive” judges in place to stop Trump. Check out the receipt John because you are a liar.

Speak out before it’s too late!!! Ok!!!!!
Thank you, Lord for President Trump!!!
Lord, may you make the book of Esther come to life, real time showing your ways, your power and your glory. All honor and praise to you Jesus Christ, King of Kings lord of lords. Please hear our plea, I ask in your name Jesus Christ. Amen.
You mean speak out like that? 🙂 We should have been doing it more often and with more vigor, surely, thanks for the reminder.
If you have no political affiliation, then why to hell do you care and why didn’t you speak out against the last regime?
Talk about lies. This piece is full of misinformation. What a quack.
Gutter mentality, an retired educator that didn’t get educated. His posting all reflect the same liberal pattern. He might get better comments if he posted this and future postings in Vermont Digger. Had a Burlington job, fits well in that environment, so take his crapology for what it is. Just glanced over his article knowing where he’s going looking at the first sentence. He’s trying to make himself relevant.
Another progressive liberal calling himself independent. 😝
John, want to turn the tables on evil? Speak up and show up. Tactical Civics has a workable plan. Learn more at their website.
John Bossange, you speak out plenty, but it’s all ad hominem, unvetted, gaslighting, mainstream media propaganda which, most sadly, you yourself have been duped by. But the vast majority of VDC’s readership sure hasn’t been. In fact, we’re wearied and disgusted by the style of “journalism” you and writers like you have churned out for the past eight years. You never have anything constructive, novel, or creative to offer, but incessantly bash President Trump and the 84 million of us who voted for and hired him to fulfill the promises he has made and to do the work and reformation our country needs, not the least of which is cleaning up the insane corruption, waste, mismanagement, and mess left behind by the previous administration and its mad rush to intentionally destroy our nation.
Nope, I’m not buying your stuff.
After reading the first paragraph I went out to get my hip boots and put them on…
