An 84-year-old Barnet woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when her vehicle left Lower Waterford Road in Waterford and struck a group of trees, Vermont State Police said.
Norma St. Germain was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash, which was reported at about 4:30 PM Aug. 18 near the intersection of Birch Tree Lane.
Police said St. Germain was driving west in a 2023 Kia Soul when she failed to negotiate a left-hand curve after passing Birch Tree Lane. The vehicle continued west, left the roadway and crashed into a group of trees.
St. Germain, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. The Kia was totaled, with significant damage to its front end and passenger side.
Members of the Barnet and Waterford fire departments and Calex Ambulance assisted Vermont State Police at the scene. Weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash. Police said neither speed nor impairment appears to have been a factor.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact the Vermont State Police St. Johnsbury Barracks at 802-748-3111.
