The political establishment is reeling from prescient analyst Mark Halperin’s prediction that Vermont’s senior senator is likely be the left’s presidential nominee in two years.
“He’s got a ton of energy,” Halperin – who has correctly called several major presidential developments – told CNN’s Michael Smerconish. “He’s not a normal 80-something.”
“I ask Democrats and Republicans who are skeptical of my view that Bernie is rising to be the most likely nominee, tell me, what’s his second-biggest barrier to being the nominee?”
For Halperin, next to Sanders’ age – he would be 91 at the end of his term – his only other problem could be that he’s “too liberal,” but the veteran political analyst says the party’s mood is shifting on that.
“He’s got experience running before,” Halperin added. “He’s won primaries, he’s won caucuses, he can raise a ton of money.”
To set voters at ease about his age, Sanders would have to pick a running mate who people felt really comfortable with and he’d have to say, ‘Unlike my two predecessors, I will be totally forthcoming about my health,’ according to Halperin.
“Now, I’m not I’m not handicapping how he’d do in the general election, but as a force to win the nomination, I believe he’s I believe he’s extremely strong,” Halperin added.
Halperin’s resume shows he has the cred to make such a bold prediction, previously having served as political director for ABC News.
He has also been a 20-year board member of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College in Goffstown, New Hampshire.
Halperin is also a former political analyst and editor for Time magazine.
He has also co-authored the bestselling books Game Change and Double Down: Game Change 2012.
He gained attention for predicting Donald Trump’s political potential long before mainstream media networks took his 2016 candidacy seriously.
Halperin also broke the news that President Joseph Biden planned to withdraw on a Thursday – reporting unmatched by other news outlets until Biden made the announcement on the following Sunday.
Halperin also correctly anticipated inside dynamics surrounding candidates, such as the friction within the 2008 McCain campaign over running mate Sarah Palin.

Bernie’s Revenge for 2016. McGovern redux. Have at it, comrades!
I really used to enjoy Mark Halperin’s show when it debuted with Sean Spicer and Dan Turrentine. The chemistry between the three was electric. Since Spicer and Turrentine left, though, I’ve found the show increasingly difficult to watch. It feels like Mark has shifted away from thoughtful political analysis toward something closer to tabloid commentary, which I find disappointing.
As for Bernie Sanders and 2028, never underestimate his ego or a politician’s belief in their own importance. In my view, after more than 30 years in Washington, he’s just a Screech owl and has been far more effective at criticizing than accomplishing. The Plattner issue may ultimately derail any presidential ambitions, although I wouldn’t underestimate Democrats’ tendency to quickly forget.
I’m sure deep in his heart he’s thinking, maybe three times the charm! But after being passed over twice by the Democrat Politburo, it will be a three-peat, IMO.
More broadly, I don’t believe the American electorate would embrace democratic socialism, or communism, as the governing philosophy for a President.
Good news if Bernie wins in 28 he will not reside in VT anymore. At the end of his 2d term he could share accommodations with Mitch McConnell.

Sanders would have beaten Trump way back there but the Hillary people beat him up.

Bernie does not have a job, it’s a position, a political position. He wouldn’t know how to actually work. A position that allows him to become a millionaire, he couldn’t be in his status quo if otherwise

Bernie has said he will watch the revolution from his porch, he’s part of the subversion of our country, look at what they have done to Vermont. We are a Marxist training ground and the VT GOP still claims we are struggling with Democrats! My God, if we don’t have better understanding of what is and has happened in th Green mountains we’ll never be able to solve our problems.

I think his throwing his political muscle around, to deflect criminal charges against his wife, when she bankrupted the college she ran, would disqualify his ability, to pass muster, to be President.
The investigators were hot on her trail and he used the power of his office to squash that investigation.

If he even makes to long enough to get elected, the disingenuous left and everybody else should realize that they are actually voting for the Vice President . Boinie should retire while he still has more marbles than Biden . Didn’t Boinie suffer a heart issue a few years ago that side lined him from the campaign trail . I think Mark is spending too much time in the Vermont dispensaries. His brain is a little fried and he has no idea what that comment actually means because Bernie Sanders is a washed a democrat. Not only is he going to be out of office on the next election, he definitely will never make president.

An old white male commie to represent the Democrat Party. How appropriate. Yes that is a possibility. Winning the Presidency would be a long shot. But never underestimate the hypocrisy of the left. And the corruption of the voting system. The voting power is moving away from the baby boomers to the younger generations. A third Party ticket of Tulsi Gabbard & RFK Jr. would make it a toss up. The midterms need to be decided. What party has the power and momentum between 26-28 is important. And the Republican nominee is up in the air if DeSantis , Rubio and Vance all decide to run.
