Bear hound group offers reward in sow dumping case

The investigation into a female bear found shot and dumped in Newbury is getting a boost from Vermont’s bear hunting community.

The Vermont Bear Hound Association announced it is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or people responsible for illegally shooting and dumping the bear.

The bear was discovered in Newbury, and the Vermont Warden Service continues to investigate the case. Authorities have not released additional details about when the bear was killed or identified any suspects.

The association is asking anyone with information to contact their local Vermont Game Warden or report tips anonymously through Operation Game Thief.

Wildlife officials say information from the public could be critical in identifying those responsible. The investigation remains active.

  1. Bears destroys and kills chickens in Searsburg Vermont and rips cover off another persons pickup truck. Looks like we have an increasing bear problem in Vermont.

    • Here in Bennington too, getting into our dumpster constantly, definitely a bear because it is scratching the trees

  2. Just like with raccoons, weasels, foxes and other predatory wildlife, keepers of poultry and other livestock have a responsibility to ensure their coops are secure. An opening the size of a nickel is large enough to allow a weasel into a coop. Dumpsters and trashcans need to be likewise secured. Bird feeders need to be brought inside in the warmer months. We are so fortunate to live side by side with wildlife and with that come responsibilities. Don’t blame the wildlife, we are the ones infringing on their habitat.

  3. Bears are a pain in the butt, all the pioneers knew this, we have too many bears and too many drug dealers in our state, of which montpelier seems hell bent on increasing the population of both parties at the expense of everybody else trying to live a normal life.

If we searched and prosecuted drug dealers as hard as we are looking for the bear killer,we’d be better off.

  4. $1,000 reward ! Wow that’s a pretty good chunk of change ! How much has the POW put up ?
