Armed robber sought in Orleans

ARMED ROBBERY IN ORLEANS – Dec. 1 at 9:20 pm, Vermont State Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar located on Main Street in Orleans. At about 9:15 pm an individual entered the Family Dollar, displayed a weapon and demanded money. He was described as a thin white male about six feet tall and was wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and black pants. He was concealed by a black facemask. He left the store with an undisclosed amount of money and was seen traveling on foot towards South Ave. None of the Family Dollar employees were injured during the robbery. Anyone who was in that area during that time and may have witnessed the robbery call 334-8881.

BROKEN WINDOWS IN POWNAL – Dec. 1 at 6:30 pm, troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks responded to a home on Middle Pownal Road in the Town of Pownal for a report of a citizen dispute. Darren Pronto (32) of Pownal had caused damage to the property of Jacob Zampini and Olivia Burdick, both of Pownal, by breaking windows to their residence. Pronto was released on citation to appear at the Bennington County Superior Court-Criminal Division to answer to the charge of Unlawful Mischief.

ATM STOLEN IN CAMBRIDGE – Dec. 1 at 11:18 am, Troopers were dispatched to the Brewster River Pub in Cambridge, for a report of an overnight break-in. Troopers learned that on Dec. 1 at 3 pm two individuals forced entry into the Pub and removed a tan Hyosung brand ATM machine. Surveillance video from inside the Pub recorded these events. Anyone with information call 878-7111.

SEX OFFENDER PICKED UP IN CORINTH – Nov. 29 at 1 pm, VSP troopers responded to a mental health incident on Miller Road in Corinth. Troopers responded and arranged for a mental health evaluation. Jermaine Robertson Haney, 21, had an active warrant for his arrest out of Rhode Island for Sexual Offender Failure to Notify Change of Address. Robertson Haney was taken into custody. Following processing Robertson Haney was lodged at the Northeast Vermont Correctional Complex for lack of $5000 bail.

FAMILY FIGHT IN READING – Nov. 30 at 6:45 PM, VSP troopers investigated a family fight in the town of Reading. Justin Wagner assaulted an adult at a North Puckerbrush Road home. Wagner was taken into custody and released with a criminal citation to appear in court.

BITING AT STATE PRISON IN ST. ALBANS – State Police were notified of a Nov. 15 assault that occurred in the Northwest State Correctional Facility. It was reported an inmate, Dujuan Williams, assaulted Correctional Officer Mark Furman. Furman suffered from a minor injury.  Williams was issued a citation for simple assault and to appear in court. 

INMATE POSSESSING COCAINE IN ST. ALBANS – November 17 an inmate at the Northwest State Correctional Facility was found to be in possession of a regulated drug. The drug field tested positive for cocaine. It was discovered that inmate Lance Crapo had brought the drug into the facility. Crapo was issued a citation for the above mentioned charges.

CRASH IN PUTNEY – Nov. 30 at 1 pm, VSP responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 91 in Putney.  The operator of a 2015 Chevy Cruze, Christian Rodriquez-Pagan, sustained no injuries. He failed to negotiate a slight curve on the roadway during heavy rainfall which caused him to adjust his steering improperly. As a result, the Chevy struck a guardrail and landed in the brush off the shoulder of the highway. Christian Rodriguez-Pagan was issued a citation for driving too fast during rain conditions.
