Dame: Anything but the economy

by Paul Dame

Democrats and the mainstream media want to focus on anything other than the economy. We saw this on display in last week’s VPR debates. In both Republican debates for U.S. House and U.S. Senate there was not one question that could be remotely construed as a question about the economy or inflation, and during the Democratic debates there was one question about gas prices, which was used across the board by Democrats to talk about what an “opportunity” the high prices were to forcibly move people off fossil fuels.

Paul Dame

Last week the national average price of a gallon of gasoline went over $5 for the first time in history, many Vermonters saw it at $5.09 over the weekend. This is the one issue that is on the top of nearly every Vermonter’s mind, and whether they think about it or not, it affects every one of us. Even if you drive a Tesla and aren’t feeling the pain at your own pump, you can be sure that those costs are still making its way to you through every Amazon delivery truck that still runs in diesel.

Inflation is a new national layer on top of Vermonter’s already difficult affordability problem. Democrats control the U.S. Congress and Senate as well as the Presidency, and in Vermont they have a near super majority in the Vermont House & Senate. Democrats have no one else to blame than themselves.

That’s why Democrats want to talk about abortion, guns, racism, Trump or literally ANYTHING that will divert your attention from your every day experiences. If our attention is elsewhere, it’s harder for reasonable voters to ask reasonable questions about this massive problem that is affecting literally everyone, instead of issues that have highly charged minorities on either extreme.

In the early 80s Republican President Ronald Reagan inherited a terrible inflation problem, but he went after it tenaciously, which provides clues to us as to why Democrat policy is uniquely to blame for our current situation, and why they are ill-equipped to right the ship without adopting a more Republican approach to government.

President Reagan actually whipped inflation unlike previous Republican primary opponent Ford, who used a clever slogan, but the same bad medicine Carter would prescribe. First Reagan appointed a Fed Reserve chair that wasn’t afraid to increase interest rates. Biden might luck out with a Fed chair who might reluctantly raise interest rates, but is trying to avoid it at all costs. The second thing Regan did was massively cut regulations. By cutting economic regulations it allowed more businesses to offer more products on the market, and grew the economy to catch up to the grown money supply.

Inflation happens when too much money is chasing too few goods. This is a systemic problem with Democrat ideology because their two favorite words are “Spend” and “Regulate” When both of these things happen at the same time, there is more money in the economy and then fewer things to spend it on.

In Vermont we run the risk of worsening the housing crisis for this same reason. We are giving away a lot of money for “affordable housing” projects, but if we don’t change the regulatory environment that makes it expensive to provide new housing – it will just make prices go even higher. You will end up with more money chasing the same number of houses. It doesn’t help that the money comes from State government instead of out-of-staters looking for a second home.

Democrat policy has created or worsened the largest problems facing the greatest number of Vermonters today; gas prices and housing. Voting for more of the same will give us exactly what we don’t want: more inflation with higher prices for fuel and housing. Democrats proved they are bent on making this problem worse, with their attempt to pass the Clean Heat Standard to raise home heating fuel prices even more. Republicans and their allies have the recipe that has a proven track record of beating some of the worst inflation our country has ever faced. But they need your help to get elected to put that policy in action so that Vermonters can get the relief they need.

  1. Bravo Mr. Dame ! Democrats, and progressives are the problem, not the solution. They had plenty of time to advance positive solutions for any, and all issues facing Vermonters, and how have they handled it ? I’m sorry, but off the top of my head I can not think of one issue that they have addressed that I agree with. It seem that everything has the same solution, moe money, moe, money, moe money ! It kind of reminds me of Prez. Dingbat’s approach regarding a “smooth transition” from petroleum to green energy. Make it so expensive that they force the people to surrender to their solution. I swear that here in Vermont our Legislators are attempting to make living here so expensive that Vermonters can no longer afford to live in our own state, and our “Flatter Than Thou” law makers are the only ones left that can afford to live here !

  2. The approximately one-third of the populace which comprise hard-core Dems/Progressives will NEVER veer from the Obama/Biden/leftist ticket. Ever. Gas could go up to $15 a gallon & they would vote them back in & praise them all the way. As I’ve said, democRATS could send the government out slaughtering all male children under the age of two & people would STILL pull the proverbial lever for them.

And “flatter Than Thou” hasn’t got squat to do with anything. If “born and raised” Vermonters were the great “independent thinkers” that they always professed to be – where are they now?

Are you running for office, Patrick? What boards & commissions have you served on (other than those related specifically to hunting and/or your former occupation)? How about the born and raised on here who chime in only to urge the electorate not to vote at ALL because the (R) candidates likely to win the primaries now aren’t “conservative” enough? Let the dems/progs win again — that’ll show ’em!

Sorry, people relocate. Reality. I did & I served 7 years as the only dissenting voice on a VT Planning Commission. Wouldn’t play “good ‘ol girl no matter Took on them all. No fear. I also initiated four town petitions & have written droves of conservative-slanted Letter to the Editor over decades. Now I’m set to help on a candidate’s campaign. There are just as many Vermonters who left this state & live elsewhere in each of the rest of the 49 states. Should they all be blamed en masse for whatever ails those states? Ummmm…..here’s the answer: No.

Complaining about out of staters is easy – but this is a God-fearing, traditionalist faction vs. a radical, Godless faction – NOT a Colorado vs. Vermont faction – whose mountains by the way? Well, they’re a LOT higher than the Green Mt chain. So are Washington’s, Montana’s, you get the drift. Your neighbor’s kids who left their state of VT & live out west are the “flatlanders” there now.

Did you know, Patrick – that there is a Constitutional amendment that enables & allows ALL Americans to travel freely & take up residence wherever they like within our states? I surmised you were a Constitutional defender; guess not.

Instead of hating on Vermonters who didn’t happen by random chance to be born & raised here, how about instead getting them all to get out & vote in ’22?

  3. Money laundering and corruption is not exclusive here. Both sides of the aisle are equally liable and accountable for their dispicible actions showing obvious lack of ethics and morally bankrupt! Dems/Progs hold the gavel, but the RINO in charge has done as much damage if not more. (Smiling with the CCP Feb of 2019!) Until the fear of God is restored in this State, we are sitting ducks for complete destruction of our livlihoods. Whether you were born here or not, we are in a collapse and no government official or bureaucrat in this State is going to help anyone other than themselves. Wake up!

  4. Whoever doesn’t acknowledge that the November 3, 2020 Election was Rigged and doesn’t acknowledge the destruction of our society by Human Sex Trafficking/Child Sex Trafficking is not worth supporting, Anyone. As Melissa Casey stated “Until the fear of God is restored in this State, we are sitting ducks for complete destruction of our livelihoods.”

    2 Chronicles 7:14
    King James Version
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
